The character Drax always reminded me of DC's Deadman. Their back stories and core motivation, and in terms of attitude.

Thanks for this really interesting coverage of this series! I read these comics maybe 8 or so years after they came out and really enjoyed them. Now, looking back on them through the window of this video series I of course feel that fond remembrance, but also enjoy some perspective. One thing that I'm reflecting on is the time when the comics came out: 1973/1974. This was the end of the Vietnam war and thousands of US veterans were dealing with what they had been through. I see this reflected in the story, with the philosophical ruminations on ego, combat, killing, and a final peace.

@@Cosmic.Comics I would say your technique is appearent to others as well. I've been following your videos for quite a while and the setup that it covers long story arcs was appearant to me much earlier. At least hope others have noticed. 7:47 I liked the biblical connection you made, many comics have borrowed from the Bible. The most notable being Adam Warlock, but Captain Marvel, Silver Surfer, Thor, and Superman are some others. Warlock, Mar-vell, Surfer are Jesus characters. Superman is Moses. Dr. Strange is Paul, etc. etc.

Fantastic channel!! It's been a great discovery during this Coronavirus Crisis story-arc (goodness, now I'm describing real life in comic book terms). I've been a huge Avengers fan with the purchase of my first Avengers comic, issue 174 waaaay back in the Summer of '78 as a kid. While I landed smack dab in the middle of the Korvac story-arc, which was a great introduction to cosmic story lines, I missed the Thanos stories of the 1970s. I did evetually read the Infinity Gem story-arc in the Warlock Special Edition six issue collection/re-release. I was floored by the story. I was aware through references to the Thanos Cosmic Cube story-arc, but I had not read any of the material or seen the actual story until watching this series. I was floored by this story, but for a very different reason than by the one that would come a bit later. Do you see a number of parallels in the story telling and characterizations between the Cosmic Cube and Infinity Gem stories? I get that Thanos has the same goal--win over Death's love--but the stories share other similarities. Mar-vell and Warlock could be switched. In fact, the real difference between these two characters, as far as I can tell, is that Mar-vell has remained dead (granted, I haven't followed Marvel too closely for a while now, but I think Mar-vell is still dead). Any thoughts on this? Did/does Jim Starlin have a "type" of story (with very smililar series/sequence of events) with specific "types" of cosmic Christ-like characters? Looking forward to catching all of your videos.
@Cosmic.Comics4 жыл бұрын
Jim Starlin def liked to play up the Christ like characters and eventually has Warlock literally hanging from a cross. Def lots of parallels between the cube and all things Infinty related. And I cant wait to discuss some of the crazier things going on with the Cosmic Cube. Thankf for watching and commenting!

In Infinity Crusade it was stated that the Cosmic Cube had as much power as the Infinity Gems, BUT the Cube had a few moral codes and you would need Billions of souls to override this safety.

The thing about the way marvel cinematic universe is handling Thanos is I can see the long game. The first time he comes about he has this desire to save the universe by culling half of it... But the next time he comes...and all subsequent times after that...he just wants to outright end life entirely...And he becomes scarier and more dangerous and less sympathetic...but strangely more TRAGIC. That could be his arc in the MCU... He becomes death obsessed later... AFTER having vaguely anti-heroic qualities.
@Cosmic.Comics3 жыл бұрын
They'll eff it all up and bring him back as a hero. SMH
@josephharden55923 жыл бұрын
@@Cosmic.Comics oh yeah! That would really suck and I hope they're smarter than that. For me they earned my trust enough to think they won't do that... I don't think they'll do that (fingers crossed). I can see them making him more and more dangerous and more like the comic book self. This sets him up for an ark to be as bad as we know him to be in the comics... he can be tragic but not necessarily a hero by becoming the Thanos we know.... But money changes everything that they get the idea in their head that that's what they'll do with him. It'll be no stopping it and yeah it will suck :-) LOL

@@Cosmic.Comics if they're doing what I'm hoping they're doing then it allows him to be in more movies and actually not be a caricature. Or just a simple one off for certain phases... He can become more and more of credible threat... It's loosely more in line with how he became more and more threatening in the books

Opinion : To much sarcasm when your narrating. When you don’t like something from the story you give your angry personal opinion. It kinda throw the listener off. Example : you got mad that thanos didn’t get rid of everyone cause he has the cube. The real story doesn’t want to do that. Its like your downgrading the story. It would be nice if you narrated the story with no personal opinion, just facts and say how the story is , be optimistic about it
@Cosmic.Comics5 жыл бұрын
Mad? Angry? Lol. I don't care about most of these stories or characters to get that wrapped up in it. But I will call out bad writing. And there are things I have to be point out now so those same themes can be revisited in the future. I'm not doing these vidoes to play nice or tell a story. These are discussions of the stories as they are presented. Love a lot of what Jim Starlin does but he's not always the best writer. Sometimes he's fantastic! But this channel isnt the Fanboy Express. If you just want the stories as presented, please read the comics. But this channel isn't that, it's me giving my take about what takes place within those pages. Watch one where I really like what the author is doing, lots less sarcasm and lots more love.

CosmicComics what I wrote was very understandable. I was enjoying your narrations. Its just I get thrown off with your personal feeling when your reading.
