Why in equipped lifting would you not train in the equipment? Suits and shirts are far different from just using a belt or wraps.
@davidmb33764 жыл бұрын
They trained their dynamic squats in briefs, which to me at least feels similar enough to full gear that I don’t need to wear full gear in training. I also only wear a shirt once a month. In Dave’s day, the gear wasn’t nearly as advanced as it is now so they didn’t need as much practice in it
@leedowner22494 жыл бұрын
@Jordan M that's what I thought regarding the skill aspect, if I squat beltless it's the same as with a belt I just won't get as much stability. Squats with and without a suit might be two totally different lifts and therefore can't expect the transfer over. I don't know, never done equipped lifting, just sleeves and a belt for me
@davidmb33764 жыл бұрын

Can anyone be a powerlifter? Serious question..can someone build the mental, physical and love to do it? Or are powerlifters like the fellas that go to Westside barbell born to do it.
@lucifuge.7773 жыл бұрын
The problem with training for powerlifting is that it’s monotonous and it’s more taxing than people expect. When you’re putting everything into executing a lift perfectly to comp standards even on volume work, it gets tiresome and sometimes boring. If you’re constantly motivated by gaining strength and being the best you can be in that discipline then powerlifting is for you. If you’re the type of person who gets bored by the same repetitive work and expect results to come in a matter of weeks. Forget it.

If you've stepped on the platform and you've put up a total then yeah you're a powerlifer. You don't have to be in gear or train a certain way. It has been 4 years since I've competed or even had an interest so who knows whats changed in this sport.

As a casual observer, isn't using bench shirts and suits against the point of strength training? Surely it is to see how strong the human body is? Might as well allow bionic arms
@slicktrips2 жыл бұрын
Absolutely not, using gear is all about putting more pounds on the bar than your body can handle, so say average guy has a 225 max bench use a bench shirt get 315, move forward and average guy now benches say 295 - 300 use a bench shirt and get 390 maybe 405 the goal is to get as strong as you possibly can with out equipment, using gear wether it be a bench shirt, squat suit or deadlift suit is like a peek in to the future but ultimately it's the insane drive to add even five more pounds on the bar that pushes people do do it
@desslattery34572 жыл бұрын
100 correct especially in strongman it should be pure raw, strongman is the most natural strength sport in the world, it man again heavy weight like from the beginning of time, it should be natural. A Tee shirt shorts and trainers ban everything else including chalk
@Dr_Footbrake2 жыл бұрын
Strength training - kinda (context dependent) Powerlifting - not at all. The sport of powerlifting isn’t necessarily about who is the strongest (though strength obviously helps). It’s about who lifts the most weight. Wearing a bench shirt, squat suit, wraps, belt all allow you to lift more weight which is why all the top competitors will wear wear whatever equipment their class/fed allows.
