I like stories like this- they always feel like an old folk tale that's creepy, but actually has a real world purpose. In old Russian folklore for instance, there's a woodland creature named the Selkie, which is a bit like a siren for lakes and streams and ponds and such, that will lure people in and then drown and eat them. It wasn't just scary, it was told to children so that they wouldn't go near water and risk drowning, but more importantly just getting wet in the middle of a Russian winter. Doing so would guarantee you got sick or froze to death before you got home. This story practically feels like a nod towards paying attention for the things that can happen in your house. Maybe if you look, you notice a strangely unconscious pet, nodding towards a carbon monoxide leak that will kill you, or maybe you've been broken into and some things are moved, and someone is lying in wait for you to attack you. Old stories, even the whole "don't eat pork" from the bible (there was no way to cure pork to make it safe to eat like other meats) had more purpose than just to scare people. They were subtleties that kept people safe if they followed them.

@@grinningdeathA7x Selkie is a translation for the proper Russian word for the creature I'm talking about. They're also called Rusalka but selkie came to mind first. Plus, the word Selkie is used for much of the Slavic region because I've also found it used in Norse and Irish folklore, which is pretty neat.

I enjoyed this one. The backrooms lore has become so saturated with video game-type levels, hundreds of entity species, 'proven' no-clip guides, and that stupid-a** almond water. So I appreciate any minimalistic take on the situation of being stuck in the backrooms. The original essence (isolation, monotony, loneliness, unknown predator) is what fascinates me most and is well described in this story. And there's a good gradual buildup of dread and fear.

Whoa, hey, we all have our vices. These have been ignored too long, the main characters of the Pastas should be more balanced. But they seem to come in waves. And overexposure doesn’t do any good.

I've almost experienced something like this twice. It wasn't me being glitched, and it wasn't in an abandoned place. It was a very popular anchor store in a mall with a basement/photo studio. Also, the "3rd" floor. The elevator up was a trip on its own. This was in 2014. I'm glad I didn't explore further.

That intro made me think that, if this job exists, door qa testers have more experience with the backrooms than most lmao.

I just discovered all of these 'creepy' channels on KZbin. I am enjoying the stories so much. They remind me of scary old-time radio shows. I would much rather listen to a good story than watch a film. Thank you for the entertainment.

@@jonasa7296 Thank you - I had no idea there were channels like this. Most of the stories I have heard are really very good and the production quality (the sound effects, background music etc) tends to be equally high.I am impressed and had no idea that there are so many other fans of scary 'radio dramas'.

Oh my god, the beginning made me realise.... with the whole pandemic thing going on, I probably only opened about the same maybe five or six doors during the last months. That's a weird feeling.

These backroom stories really interest me, the concept is like the Matrix. Enter one, come out in a completely different continent. Very cool premise. But Why is everyone 25? That’s about the worst time of your life to vanish. And Dear God I pray I’ll never find myself in those backrooms.

This is so hopelessly depressing... absolute destitution must be the final emotion you'd feel in this place, and likely feel for a lot longer than anyone would want to too.
