Squatting is anatomically the right thing so don't understand why Westerners can't do it. Yes, it evacuates more completely and this is healthier. Also you don't have to worry if the toilet seat has been sanitized. It is one of the 4 normal and common body postures - sitting, squatting, standing and lying down.

Squatting is not a position normally used in the West. The flexibility of the body and the muscles are not used to that position. So squatting should be part of an exercise routine.

It's a very interesting topic. In the past decade many cities in China made their regulations of cigarette management. Officially everywhere under roofs is forbidden to smoke, except the particular smoking room. BUT the power of executing the cigarette management regulations is authorized to the healthcare department, NOT the police department. So the policemen cannot issue a fine to who breaks the regulation. The healthcare department has the power to issue a fine, but it doesn't have as many employees as policemen to patrol in the streets. So the cigarette management regulation is totally useless, not different from toilet paper. I think it's a little bug of the systems of legislation and power authorization of China.

I guess the one that confuses me the most is the bargain thing lol, like why they do that? Sounds like a speech "test" to see how much discount you can get, which doesn't make sense to me at all. Some sitting toilets here in the US are just so filthy that I really can't stand going near them, especially in public parks or going to big events. In China, driving culture differs significantly. It often requires a more assertive approach behind the wheel; otherwise, drivers behind you may honk to urge you to speed up. For less experienced drivers, it's common to display a sticker indicating their novice status. Interestingly, drivers perceived as reckless, such as taxi or DD drivers, are often quite skilled, despite their aggressive driving style. I once questioned a taxi driver about the seeming chaos on the roads caused by aggressive driving. Surprisingly, he informed me that despite the aggressive driving, accidents are relatively uncommon. This is attributed to extensive monitoring of the streets, facilitating easy identification of responsible parties in case of accidents. Consequently, people are aware of their limits, as nobody wants to bear the financial burden of repairing vehicles.

The problem with driving standards in China is complete lack of empathy, compassion, patience and care for pedestrians. You can really see the true nature of Chinese when they don’t care one bit about their fellow countrymen and their safety and well being. Utter selfish behaviour.

Your comments as a foreigner seem quite normal and acceptable although some people will disagree which is also normal and acceptable. There is no right or wrong only differences in culture, levels of education, acceptance and attitudes. One thing for sure is you will see many changes a decade from now which will nullify many of your current ‘dislikes’ Above all do not generalize, China is a huge country with a huge population and many setbacks in the past. Changes take time more so behavioural, don’t expect the same for culture which remains steadfast, case in point those squat toilets have been used for centuries not only in China but many Asian countries, part of their culture, just like using chopsticks not fork & knives.
@dantesinferno50753 ай бұрын

You made valid points, totally sympathetic to your plights. Although China's economy took off like a rocket in the past 40 years, it will take much longer for people's behaviour and habits to change, especially in smaller cities and villages. 1.4 billion people inevitably lead to heightened competition for everything, everywhere. Many of your observations are related to human nature with built-in inertia against changes. China is still marching on quickly. The changes will accelerate with more adoption of social media and high speed 5G & 6G.
@juki0h3913 ай бұрын
You've mentioned a lot of good points. I imagine these things will gradually fix itself as time goes on, with newer generations of people saying goodbye to the old ways. China got rich really fast, so they didn't have enough time to adjust to these changes. Western countries started getting rich over a century ago with the industrial revolution, so they had at least a century to adjust to these changes. Maybe, one more generation and things will be better. You still have people from the old generation still alive, when China was still very poor. They haven't changed because they feel no need to change, but the younger generation will.

China has developed so rapidly, from one of the poorest countries in the world, to one of the most developed in a little over two generations. Physical infrastructure will always change faster the behaviours, but it will catch up eventually for things like smoking and spitting. Given the healthcare burden of smoking I'm surprised the government hasn't done more to minimize it. Really fair video on your personal observations. I want to visit China next year.

In China, each brand of cars of different models has a corresponding guide price. This guide price is a comprehensive result of brand positioning, configuration, and market conditions. The transaction price fluctuates above and below the guide price, some strong brands such as Land Rover and Mercedes-Benz's high-end models. Usually, you need to pay more to take delivery of the car. Joint venture cars brands and domestic cars brands can usually be bargained for 5,000-20,000 RMB even more.

There is not a single country in this world that is perfect for everyone, nothing. What is important is security, comfort, convenience, no coercion, if there are shortcomings that can still be accepted, that is normal. As the Chinese proverb says, the best is the best. There are definitely people who don't like them (because they are jealous, etc.) and no matter how evil they are, there are still people who want to be friends (because they are just as bad). So you just have to choose whether you want the good even though there are shortcomings or the bad with all its ugliness.

The elderly(60+) came from very poor era. They worked hard from an early age and didn't get much eduction. The quality of education in under-developed areas is lower than that in big cities. Chinese government started "Quality-oriented Eduction" in place of "Exam-oriented Eduction" around 30 years ago. That's why generally speaking young people from big cities are much better-mannered. In addition, there is a classified personnel document for every citizen which keeps track of the criminal records. If one commits a crime, it will be very difficult for him to get a decent job. That's why people in China tend to avoid conflicts. If ill-mannered people got beaten up, such as a duel in Middle Ages in Europe, they will never misbehave again. Being rude is not legally punished, and we cannot punish them by ourselves, so rude people might never learn the lesson throughout their lives.

Any developing country that is becoming developed & affluent will undergo the same thing with its people as they are to be educated, cultured by the proper etiquette . This goes true to Taiwan many years back where it was becoming affluent & people lags behind in maturity & civilized . As far as car driving , its rampant in asia , middle east, india , pakistan to name a few . In the philippines , its called rule of the jungle . This is also true in Taiwan & has some friends from pakistan, India & middle east & the same . Squatting toilet should be only in rural underdeveloped poor countries because of cost & Im very surprise that China promote that . Asian people is no different than caucasian or Blacks & squatting causes more hemorrhoids in the long run as you are doing a valsalva maneuver causing increase intraabdominal pressure & for elderly can passed out . Regarding buying cars , even in USA , you need to negotiate for price to come up w/ a good bargain out the door price unless its sold thru big chain whole sale store like Costco here . Not allowing or waiting for passengers to disembark before people move in a Metro rails is annoying & reminds me also in Taiwan many years back riding a train. Its a learning process & I bet Japanese used to be like that also till over the years the population are well educated like the West . Remember smoking in public places & lets not forget spitting is another thing that needs to change over time. Its a learning curve but in order to imposed drastically then should follow Singapore rule of law & punishment & this include playing music or watching movies / videos.

Most Chinese actually prefer to using a squat toilet in public toilets because they think it is cleaner than sitting on a western toilet. 2, Smoking: I think smoking inside public spaces like restaurants and elevators should be forbidden, but it should be allowed outside on street. It would be even better to put some cigarette butts collectors outside and make dedicated smoking areas. From my point of view, we cannot simply equal smoking to bad behaviors. After all, it contributes a lot of tax incomes from which non-smokers also enjoy many benefits.

You have just insulted literally Billions of people. This will be the biggest lesson of your life... While plenty of your points makes sense.. talking negative especially to such a broad group of people is always going to be a serious topic. And always keep yourself in check from assuming that what you think is superior to what others do. Not all of what you said here - I think you have put plenty of thought.

Actually you make me laugh. Who cares what you like or dislike about China. Nobody is forcing you to stay there. Just stay put in your own country. Such arrogance and prejudice, it's simply unbelievable.

After viewing 3 cases in this clip, one significant thing found in common was the producer's personal or self oriented feelings towards the surrounding thinking that the world should be changed to adapt one single opinion? Sounds like a classical western colonial behavior. Imagine you choose to step inside a rainforest and found nothing you like inside, what would you do? Change the rainforest by you? Who are you? Does the rainforest needs you? Without you, the forest will die? How long you need to teach someone from kindergarten through professor? Tell those of your followers not to go to where you've been in China, not to torture anyone of them and the locals will be grateful to have less congestion when you do not belong there

I can live with the rest of the issues except maybe these three: 1. SMOKING : I have traveled 140 countries in the world and smoking is a problems in many Asian countries. It’s been getting corrected but too slow. 2. SPITTING IN OPEN PLACES: usually from the older Chinese. The younger generations are more health conscious. 3. TOILET AND SQUATTING: I have live both ways. Human body can adjust to both system as long as the toilet is clean. I was in china many times. In the early time toilet paper is not that available, either you carry your own or have to pay for it. The country getting richer help. Finally don’t be hesitant to criticize, as an educated Chinese-American I can understand. Your criticism, I consider as a first step towards our improvements. Thank you.
The overall quality and level of civilization of the Chinese people need to be strengthened and improved

As a Chinese, I very much agree with the issues you mentioned. It's these details that I can't stand. I attribute the reason to the fact that the proportion of China's middle class is too small. China’s neighbors, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan, have a middle-class and above-level ratio above 50%, especially Japan, which is above 80%. The proportion of China's middle class is probably less than 5%. The entire society is not rational and moderate enough.

Totally agreed , China had lot of heavy law but seem not so effective. I believed more regarding to individual attitude and behavior ( Stubborn ).😤😤 I visit hainan island few ears ago and I won't travel there again ..... 👎
And here we go... The negativity from Western people about China just like all the rest of KZbinrs, not going to watch your videos again.
