Alex monologuing about getting groceries is probably the most mask-off we’ve seen of him.

Alex quietly musing about getting groceries was so out of left field. Like we’re used to hearing a million monologues from this guy about how great he is, or just random bullshit. But hearing him on the bus ride at night, hearing him speak so honestly and with such vulnerability felt so intimately real to me. The whole scene where he straight up ADMITS he had an eating problem, how he was taking his girlfriend for granted, that was genuinely the most sober I’ve seen Alex act. His monologue here felt incredibly different from the other ones in the game, and I can’t quite explain why. But hearing him actually realising one of his many faults was genuinely interesting to hear. I am supremely looking forward to YIIK IV

just thought about this again, it's crazy to think and say with how people react to this game, that MORE alex dialogue would make him more endearing and understandable. Though it is true!
@xVibra4 күн бұрын
I feel like they wanted people to be less sympathetic to Alex, because it would make the player realize they relate to him and care too much about his goals. I feel as though he's supposed to be a representation of how we look back at our old selves and think about how stupid and cringe we were. Even when we think about the times we thought back to those old times, we were stupid and cringe, and the cycle repeats. We're not intended to like him, and it's better he stays as our shadow in our ego. I don't know if you've played through I.V yet, but I think it's a main point they're trying to get across to people. Criticizing yourself about what would've or could've happened differently is a cancer. It's your ego surviving for the sake of surviving, and not for practicality, enrichment, or growth. Whether that was a message intended from the beginning, it's actually rather poetic that the game had its ups and downs and ends with a message like that. It's a helpful reminder to think before you criticize others or even yourself, and an omen of what consciousness means in a digital form for the future. Is humanity worth preserving if it's just surviving for the sake of surviving? As much as I'm endeared at how melancholy Alex's delivery is on groceries and the insecurities of growing up or changing, I feel like it sets up the example of an empty reality better if it was absent. The heart grows fonder and all...

I find it fascinating how Alex repeatedly asks Vella to explain what's happening as she is literally already explaining what's happening to Rory. Like, the scene isn't about him so he has to repeatedly draw attention to himself. The explanation isn't for him, but he demands it to be. Maybe it's been a while since I YIIKed out but I don't actually remember what about that "unused" sewer scene is supposed to be different from the final, besides the locale. I guess I'll go check now but leave this comment regardless as record of my current state of being.

Mostly it's that there's multiple camera angles and it's far more visually interesting compared to the release version. This is also the first time this has been publicly documented as existing.

I love how these areas looked in older builds, the sewer looks more gloomy and "dungeon-like" and frankton looks like an actual town. Sure the final version is more video gamey which works for the story but the old build areas have a cool vibe to them.

11:49 oh damn. The existential dread/horror music fits really well with this dingy setting, it must have been unchanged in 1.0. Also I love how Thinking of You, Whenever You Are is used.

Another great video nice work making this so soon after the other, also I’d never realised that Alex’s sword and shield could be hinting to the fact that he becomes proto ultima Alex that’s so wicked cool.

So, the prototype is the "bootstrapped" timeline? This makes sense in context of the proposed sequel, where Alex is still present and has ascended to some god-like force over the world of Yiik. I think making this ending easier to find would have greatly effected how people interpetted the story- in the same way the Signalis fandom was searching for clues about that initial "bootstrapping" that makes a lot more of the story beats settle easier.

Nobody show Alex that show ''Old enough!'' where they send Japanese toddlers to run errands. I don't think we want to see another dissociative tantrum. I wish I could've played this ending though, looks fun. I would've also like to play the Cape Juno episode. 3:19 It's also very jarring to hear from this dialogue forward. It's completely new to me.
