The Third Heart / Harumaki Gohan feat. Miku Hatsune

New "full album" "GenEi EP -Envy Phantom-" was released on May 27, 2022.
The album consists of a 15 songs-CD and a 8 songs DVD, mainly from the "GenEi -Envy Phantom-" series, including "The Third Heart", "Fireflies Never Came", and "Mirage". The package is a special edition designed and produced by HarumakiGohan under the theme of "transparency," and includes a 68-page A5 story and art book, including a comic picture book and setting data.

The meaning of this song seems kinda abstract. At first glance, it seems like a song about two friends, a bit like "Futari No" series or "Cobalt Memories", but delving deeper into the lyrics, it doesn't seem to be the case. The song is actually about identity and how the girl keeps "hiding her heart". In othet words, she's hiding who she really is as a person. Since its stated in the beginning of the song that she "reflects the hearts of strangers", meaning she changes how she acts depending on the person. This is reinforced by the title, "The Third Heart" You know how there's this Japanese proverb about "Three Faces"? First face is how you act in public, your second face is how you act towards close friends and family, and the third face is how you act when you're alone, your true self. This is implied with how in one part of the song, its stated that this heart is unknown and hidden from parents and teachers. Its possible that the "friend" in this video isn't actually a person, but a reflection of this character (Someone mentioned her name is Mikage). In fact, its been stated in one of the lyrics and also shown literally in the video. So she's probably not real. She also never seems to show up when Mikage appears in school, only when she's alone. Though, the question is, is she the third or second heart? Because the final lyrics says "The third cold heart has been watching us from afar" which plays as she looks back at the end. So this "friend" may not be her true self. But who knows? (btw, I knew the lyrics from someone's tls here, so yeah)

個人的な考察です ともだち →教師から見えない角度でイヤホンで音楽を聴くような｢悪い子｣のみかげと｢良い子｣が帰ったあと一緒に帰る、同じく｢悪い子｣(彼女の姿が色褪せているため、恐らく彼女はみかげの空想上の友人で、みかげの隠した心臓(=みかげの本性)) 初めに出てくるアイスは多分バニラとチョコの2色(動脈血と静脈血)(静脈血は酸素濃度が低いので黒っぽい色)だけど2本目のアイスはどちらも黒っぽい色をしている →｢見抜かれ｣たり｢嫌われ｣たりすることに怯えて｢さよなら｣も｢ありがと｣も｢本題｣も満足に言えなかったみかげが｢真面目ぶる子は嫌｣と言って本性を傷つけてしまったことを示している ｢好きだった｣から｢嫌なんだ｣ →自身を偽ることに辟易としているみかげの変化 イデア →イデアは現実を超越したところにある理想郷、プラトンはイデアを真の存在とし、現実世界の事物はイデアの影にすぎないとした。 (みかげを漢字にすると｢御影｣など恐らく｢影｣｢景｣という字を用いる） 脆弱なイデア →ともだち(みかげの心臓であり本性)と別れ、離れていくにつれて｢選択肢｣の判別もつかなくなってしまっている(選択肢なんてともだちの｢顔色しだい｣なので） つまり、ともだち=心臓=本性=イデア となる まとめると、諦観した女の子のみかげは、自分を偽り人前でだけ良い子を演じる臆病なともだち(=みかげ自身の本性)を突き放したが、そのともだちがいないと善も悪も分からなくなってしまい、結局隠した本性とは離れられなかったという話だったのかなと。 第一の心臓は臆病なみかげの本性、第二の心臓は｢良い子｣であることをやめたみかげ、第三の心臓は本性と共に生きていくことを決めたみかげの新たな心持ちなのかなと思います。偽った自分もまた自分自身であるということにみかげは気づけたのでしょう。

*LONG THEORY WARNING* After reading some theories from the comments I have another theory: 🤍 The song is Literally called "The Third Heart". 🌸 This calls out to be an analogy to three concepts as well: 🔸The first is *The three hearts of Japanese culture* which are 1- The face you present to others, 2- Face to your closes ones, 3- The face to yourself. 🔸The second concept its about the unconscious. In Freud mind psychology there are 3 parts of the mind in the human heart. 1- The logical one, 2- The moral One, and the 3- The unconscious *es* timules. (got it?) 🔸Then the third concept is about the very first phrase of the song. 0:08 "I'm neither an angel nor Devil" 🌸 We can resume these concepts like this: 🔸"Mikage" the protagonist, is the first Heart (Face to others/ The logical heart/Neither Angel nor Devil) 🔸Her friend is the second heart (Face to your close ones/ The moral heart/Heart) 🔸The third heart is US, and while she looks like she's talking about her friend in the song, she's sometimes talking to US too. You can see that in the 1:13 "I don't want to be infantuated by you (looks at us and next appears the heart shaped playground (I will explain this later)) Es, es, es, es..." part. 🌸 Now, about the theme of the song regarding these 3 concepts: The theme is about losing innocence after graduation. Many of HarumakiGohan's songs are about the children's mind. 0:23 At first we see she has a friend who, I believe, she feels like she's -her angel-. The evidence to this is treated as the halo she's wearing for most of the song, and we don't see her real face. 0:17 And also Mikage saying "Choosing between A and B is according to the attitude of you sitting next to me". Probably Mikage's friend helps her with studies or life. 0:26 When they share popsicles, her friend gives her the light one while she takes the dark one as an analogy of that she knows more about the adult world than Mikage. They are sitting in a Heart shaped playground that is also the third heart. But wait I said it was us, right? Think about it. 0:28 The first scene we see the the playground is *inside* the heart. 2:56 Then at the end of the song, when it says "The neglected third heart is looking at us" Mikage actually LOOKS at US. As if knowing we are looking to them. And also, remember this is sung by Hatsune Miku. You know what makes Miku sing? US. WE ARE HER HEART. Which all this connects to is that both the characters of the PV know that their third heart is ruled by what US, the people who make Miku sing (Harumaki Gohan in this case) wants to express. 1:00 And going back to the innoccence and graduation thing, when Mikage is talking to her friend instead to "Es/US/🤍" she says she's like a mirror of people. Of herself too. This means that she has lost innocence and is able to adapt her heart to various situations. And she's afraid when they'll graduate they will fall apart. 2:00 In the Sakuraful scene, is when Mikage finally realized that she has to face reality. She falls from the swing (representing childhood) She has had points, as well as her friend. 1:35 Before in another popsicle scene, they both had dark ones and Mikage's is now sharing them, that symbolises this too. Another grasp of the theme of innocence~Maturity could be Goodness~Badness. Mikage sees her friend as an angel and that's why while I think she's a good friend, she's maybe too protective of Mikage. The third heart could also be the Maturity/Badness part. When Mikha says 1:26 "The kids who only appear to be good in front of teachers disgust me" is a grasp of this. Also "The badness is well hidden" 1:40 ( Hidden inside her, hidden inside the heart shaped playground, *Es, The unconscious heart* ) Maturity is learnt by the outside world. But created by *reflecting* 0:14 at our inside world. And it appears slowly. 2:42 In the next scene we see a transparent foot that might be her friend's or even hers, which means they both are now able to face/reflect the world. Then they reunite. (And while all this we see Mikage suffering saying that she doesn't want to leave her) and with a big red sunset light symbolising the actual real third heart (a reflection of us.) And the halo disappearing from her friend's head. Why? Because the sun appears at the whole MV but in a softer lighting saying "I'm here" without acting. So the estimule/real wish/impulse/whatever of the creator of the song is them to reunite (I sense some inspiration from Saikai here! And there's a reference to Himitsu as well here > 1:47). 2:50 When they do, we see Mikage's friend without the halo, that symbolises Mikage is not anymore regarding her as an angel (knowing everyone has bad and good things) and then she's able to face reality and not fall apart with her since they are now standing in the same line of maturity. And that's it. I'm a lil messy explaining things but, hope you liked it! ✨
