25 year old Capt. Arlo L. Olson of Toronto, South Dakota won the Medal of Honor for his intrepid actions crossing the Volturno River in Monte San Nicola, Lazio Italy in October 1943. This former Eagle Scouts heroic combat achievements stand tall among all M.O.H. Recipients, single-handedly taking out several enemy gun positions and saving many of his men before suffering a fatal wound ascending Monte San Nicola.
