They have HORRIBLE customer service, too. I ordered an item that was not as described (a size 1 instead of a size 14!!!) and I had to pay to ship it back and then they refused to give me a refund! Instead they just offered me $10 off my next order. As if!

I see several pros of thread up for you - 1. You have content for your channel. 2. The items are out of your bedroom, life and house. 3. You participated in an interesting business model that I’m sure will undergo refinement, that, or it will fail as their equation seems off. 4. You participated in a business model that encourages sustainability and allows people to dress in their fave brands for a profit. Any part of you that’s bummed - don’t be. You’re doing great and will keep going. And if you don’t get around to selling your clothes in some other way, that’s ok, too. Keep making content and if you end up tossing, donating, or losing money, YOUve created a way to actually profit and grow from your clutter, and entertain a few thousand people with each video - and that’s KZbin. That takes work and guts. Keep going Mira, we want to see more of your leggings!

This is exactly why I give away, donate, or trash all my unwanted clothes... the effort needed to resell, yardsale, or a place like Thread Up, is not worth the effort or the money... I got my use out of the items and if I didn't use the items, then this will be a good lesson about my impulse purchases... I saw a documentary about places like this, how unwanted or unsold items are bundled and sold to 3rd world countries to be resold by the local stalls and markets...even then those poor people get a bad deal.

Yes, I agree. If I don’t wear it, I either donate or give away. Goodwill also recycles the textiles so you don’t need to trash them. I think the recycled clothes get sold as “rags” to construction companies and other such companies.

I tried Thred Up as well and was just as disappointed as you. I had some nice things, a silk sweater, nice dresses. The prices they place on them are ridiculously low. I had 12 items, they all sold, but I ended up with a couple dollars. I was waiting for this video, because I thought maybe if you sold a lot of items it would add up but it appears not. I don't plan on using them again and don't recommend them to others!

I sent 1 bag and I now owe them about $6. The fees are just outrageous. I did find a few things to purchase. Some fit and some did not. Oh I bought the wolf leggings and moon phases shirt that you listed and it wasn’t my size but I gave it to my daughter and she absolutely loved them. We probably have some sort of consignment shop in town but I’m to the point where I’ll just drop it all off to my local thrift store. They employ people recovering from addiction so at least I know it is going toward a meaningful program. Plus I have gotten some really good items from there so it is win win.

I felt the excitement/disappointment too & just got their sale email which I never go to. However from a sustainability point sadly lots of goodwills just end up in the landfill despite their pledge. Then there's the shipping fees, paying staff to take photos of random clothes which some ppl may have sent on all wrinkled or who knows, & lastly the storage for all of it and fees to support sending to recycling to fabric centers. They try to make it easier by making it easier for ppl to ship over, but yeah. If looking for money it's not the best and local consignment is probably better, but if tossing out closet I feel it's a noble option for them to give it a chance and passively forget if you end up making money. Either way thankful for sharing and the effort to revisit your clothes decluttering :)
@cat3crazy
@cat3crazy Ай бұрын
Wow! I'm shocked at how little you actually got back from all the clothes you sent in. It doesn't seem like was even worth the time it took you to sort and pack up the clothes. Now I know about Thread Up, I won't be purchasing anything from them. Not giving the seller a fair amount for the clothes sent to them, tic's me off. I use to do cleaning as part of my job, being an in-home aide. I found it much easier to clean someone else's home than my own. My home is a mess and I'm struggling. I applaud you for doing so well in accomplishing what you have done. It may seem to you that you haven't done much but, I know how difficult it really is. I've been trying to declutter and clean for several years. When I retired 2 years ago, I figured I'd have everything cleaned in a month or so. It didn't happen! I've got my bathroom and the majority of my kitchen taken care of but... I have 2 spare rooms that are stuffed with stuff. There are no closets or storage areas in this mobile home, except for a 8' x 2' closet in each bedroom. I've been donating stuff but the boxes can get too heavy for me... None of the excuses matter. I have to figure out how to get it done! EDIT - spelling and punctuation.

I'm sorry this didn't bear more fruit for you, what a bummer. If nothing else, it's such a reality check on the value/worth we imbue in things and hope they have. Maybe especially clothes, something we're swimming in these days. Unless you're in rarified goods, making money in resale relies on quantity and being the main vector point of that quantity. A garage sale would get you maybe a buck or two per item, but they come with their own work and hassle. Some people enjoy having them, but I think it's also diminishing returns if you're not wired for that. Local consignment wasn't too bad. At least all you had to do was drive it there! lol. ThredUp seemed worth doing just to answer for yourself the what-if on items you think you can recoup on, and let you make different and more informed decisions when you're ready to tackle clothes again. In the end, freedom from stuff and the overwhelm it can cause is worth more than the but-it's-worth-something of almost everything. And you're doing great continuing that journey. Keep on keeping on, Team Peeling Away

Do you have a local brick and mortar, consignment shop in your general area? The sizes im seeing are highly desireable in this area. You could even announce on yoir local social media what youve tzken and that the shop dkes actually have some plus sized clothes. Often, plus sized clothes are on Facebook Market place and other community selling grouos and sites around here. Nore work but potentially more profit. What one woman losing weight in the area was doing was putting on each garment she was selling, taking a mirror shot, then posting. Many people fold or hang what they are selling.

Costs more in gas to take the stuff to the post office, not to mention your time. Thanks for sharing this and opening everyones eyes to this scam of a company. Finding a local consignment shop or selling on marketplace or something else locally might actually get you a little money but, companies like this are there to make money for themselves. And if you don't have the time or energy to sell local or have a good way to do it, best to just find a local good charity or offer up on buy nothing, pay it forward and free stuff sites. Have u tested this company? I'm sure there's a loop if you purchased your item it would show u a diff price but what if u had someone purchase your item and compare what person says paid for vs what they tell u it sold for? This seems like a very shady outfit.

So disappointing. I remember one of your previous videos with the same results😢. Not worth it.

you would do better taking to good will. and get a receipt for taxes. it may be a year away but it would probably come out better financially.

And I thought Poshmark was bad in terms of taking 20% in fees. This is terrible.
