It is surprising how versitile these engine are for different applications. I am not sure how we lived without a battery impact :-) Take care

New subscriber here.. I have never seen one of these in the states...-John

Hello John. Thank you very much for watching, subscribing and commenting, I hope you enjoy following along. We know a few people who have Bolens in the states and they have said that they were popular in some states but very rare in others. When they were new they were very expensive, over here they were about the same cost and a mid size family car. Take care and I hope you have a great week, Joseph

Good afternoon Joseph! Great afternoon for watching the latest episode of “ GARDEN TRACTOR BOY” Freezing rain here today. Travel not advised. I’m sitting inside by a nice warm fire watching my friends from across the pond on You Tube!

Thanks. It does sound like it was wise to sit inside by a warm fire and I am pleased you decided to watch my video. Take care and keep warm

Hello Joseph. That was a very clever idea how to flush out the gear boxes. You are doing a fantastic job preparing the engine. Take care my friend 🔧👍

Thanks 👍 We were not expecting to get good results from flushing the gearboxes but it went very well and made a huge difference. Take care and I hope you have a great week

Nice work on the tear down, nothing too bad so far. Fingers crossed the rest goes well. Good luck 👍

Thanks. The engine was given to us as a non runner but so far everything does look good. Take care

Lucky to find threads under the muffler flange. Always fun to tear engines apart! It should be a good one once it's cleaned up.
@GardenTractorBoy4 күн бұрын
Thanks. It is odd how some of these engines have threaded exhaust ports and others don't. This engine is looking promising which is great as it was given to us as a non runner for parts. Take care

A lot of prep for replacing engines. I like the care you take when removing the bolts from the aluminum block. Very wise. Great progress so far Joseph! Take Care!
@GardenTractorBoy4 күн бұрын
Thanks. We were pleased how easy the head bolts came out, it is not always that easy. We are a bit surprised about the amount of work needed to swap this over. Take care

Hello Joseph, Nice work on the engine conversion... One thing that came to mind was in my apprenticeship I came across many old engineers who had made some weird and whacky spanners by modifying a standard one by sawing / bending / welding bits on / etc. When asked what they were for i normally got the answer "oh to remove an ABC bolt on a specific part on an engine" a really good practice is to save old tools that you don't mind modifying. See you in the next one. Take care. Paul,,
@GardenTractorBoy4 күн бұрын
Thanks. We have some old cheap tools we have put aside in case we needed to do that but it is not something we have often done. I do wonder if we picked that tip up from one of your videos. In this case we were really concerned about the state of the bolt and we knew that we can weld the flange back on the exhaust. Take care

you have done a good bit of work on that well done to you both 👍👍

Thank you very much. We were surprised how easy the head bolts came undone on this engine. Take care

Interesting watching Joseph. It came apart nice. The cylinder head looks thin, but it must be OK. Cheers Tony
@GardenTractorBoy4 күн бұрын
Thanks. They do not always come apart this easy especially the head bolt that goes into the exhaust port. The heads are thin on these small engines for some reason. Take care

You did very good, Joseph. I have to say that enjoyed see the engine being dismantled and some part swaped around to there new location. Looks like the engine rebuild is on its way....CHEERS
@GardenTractorBoy4 күн бұрын
Thanks 👍 It is surprising how much needed to be swapped around. We also need to move parts from the old engine. Take care

Great details fellas on this engine. My guess is that the rings are worn a bit, causing the leakage at the head gasket. And oil on top of the piston. Should run fine with a new gasket, and check of the flatness of the head and block surfaces. Great video, I sure enjoyed it. 👍🏻👍🏻👋👋🎄🎄🚜🚜
@GardenTractorBoy4 күн бұрын
Thanks. It will be interesting to see how it runs after a bit of work. The engine was given to us for parts so it has already exceeded our expectations by running. Take care

You got a good start on the engine. I was actually a bit surprised at the HP of the engine. I expected it to be bigger.

Thanks. Physically these are very big engines for the HP but they are very robust. Take care

Thank goodness for google eh Joseph. Too bad ya had to cut the exhaust. Hopefully ya can weld it back together and use it on another machine. Great progress in the engine so far. See ya on the next one Joseph.
@GardenTractorBoy4 күн бұрын
Yes, it was a shame we had to cut the exhaust but as you said, I don't think it will be too difficult to weld back up. Take care

When you do the head "skimming". Do you use your milling machine or, do it with a file or, use a flat surface and sandpaper? I've used a file, Dykem, and a straight edge for 4 cylinder aluminum heads but it took hours. I have a surface plate that is big enough to do any normal 1 cylinder head with just sand paper. If I can get my shaper set up, I'll use it. Good Luck, Rick
@GardenTractorBoy4 күн бұрын
We have a surface table which is about 2x1 foot which we tend to use for these heads with sand paper. Maybe we will show a bit of this next time we need to do this as it may be of interest to some. We have thought about using the mill but the surface table does seem easier. We have a shaper that is waiting to be setup too. Take care

The engine looks in good shape. Those small mufflers don't do much, and give a sharper exhaust sound. I am not a fan of points ignitions. Take care.
@GardenTractorBoy4 күн бұрын
We were given the engine for parts but it runs really well. I think the previous owner must have had issues with the ignition system. I was afraid that the exhaust would would do that, we will look out for something better in the longer term, thanks for letting us know. Take care
