Thank you, David! I always enjoy your talks/presentations. Perhaps you can share something along the lines of "Which 3 Books had the Greatest Influence on My Magic!" I, too, am a lover of magic books and would be interested to hear how you narrowed it down to the three you would choose.
Mark Wilson Course in Magic - I built my first show from this book when I was a teenager.
Tarbell - a lifetime resource I continually draw from
13 Steps to Mentalism by Tony Corinda.
Originally published as thirteen smaller booklets as a course in mentalism, it was later republished as a book in 1961.
13 Steps inched out Annemann's Practical Mental Effects and T.A. Waters' Mind, Myth and Magick because they cover the basics on which these other books build.

The _Mark Wilson Complete Course in Magic_ could literally build a career as a local magician, if you literally did NOTHING but the effects and performances described therein. You won't impress other magicians, but you'll make many children, friends, and families smile and be mystified. Such a wonderful book, by a wonderful man.

Mark Wilson's "Complete Course in Magic", I have 2 of them sitting on my shelf. At The Magic Castle 20+ years ago if you took a Magic course, you'd receive a copy. If you're starting out thinking that what's in here is not what you really need, you'd be wrong. Within the 472 pages, are just about every aspect of Magic you can explore. It has the potential to give the student a solid foundation. It may also be the biggest bang for your buck. That 13 Steps is also a winner. Give yourself some patience with it though if your a beginner.

It is foundational in that it provides principles. It provides some tricks, too, but for me, the value is in the principles. Once you know these principles, you can easily create your own routines

@@DavidDellman i have the fitzskee book magic by misdirection and stanyon book of magic and encyclopedia of suspensions and levitations book and cycloppidie of dove magic book tops treasury of dove magic book and tops treasury of sixty tops treasury of stage illusions book Rand Woodbury books on stage illusions plus VHS video tape i dubbed onto a blank DVD -r video disc and I have blue volume 6 tarbell course in magic book on Sub trunk illusion revealed and other stuff and Ralph Adams a life time of magic book and video David Copperfield history of magic book Paul Osbourne Big book of stage illusions i used to have all books on Paul Osbourne ILLUSION systems books except one the first one but I saw a junior boy wanting to get into stage illusions so i gave them to him for free and he Said thanks your the best Magician i will never forget you ps and teen boy i gave how to be a fake krestion by the amazing krestion book I've helped missionaries families bye dubbing them copies of six hours of stage illusions SECRETS fun on DVD video disc and books on magic tricks and illusions and Erno Rubik's cube puzzles and there parents thanking me for doing that for there children

for me it would be practical mental effects - cause while 13 steps is great for theory there arent half as many good routines as an annemanns book. i think the new jinx would be up there for me also the follow up to the jinx. the reason its not as well known is cause it got overshadowed by the jinx but there are a lot of great ideas in it. my last choice would be tarbell obviously for the same reason you picked it.

Since you reviewed annemanns enigma can you please get secret ways of Al baker and review it. It was the first miracle factory book and most people say it’s even better than the Annemann book

Al Baker is one of our great masters. Anything you read from him will be excellent. I think his best work is: Magical Ways and Means (1941) and Mental Magic (1949)

I am not familiar with a full deck of impromptu card tricks, so I cannot comment on anything and everything with Annemann's name on my study. I may not perform even a 10th of what is in his books but I study them

I can't say I am a fan; however, comedic magicians are generally my favorite type of magician. I think "yucks mean bucks," and those who can make us laugh while creating great magic are way ahead of the game.

It had a significant impact on my development as a magician. Material for the first paid shows I ever did was entirely taken from that book.
