Today’s topic: Tommy Mullica
August 19, 1948 - February 18, 2016 (aged 67)
The inspiration of many comedic magicians including Nick Diffatte
When he was five years old, he wanted to be a clown.
On his seventh birthday, his mother bought him a "Sneaky Pete Magic Kit" for Christmas.
1966
Mullica graduated from High School, enlisted in the US Army at age 18.
Served three years in Korea and Germany.
1970
Once he had finished his military service he moved to Colon, Michigan, where he built illusions and demonstrated magic for Abbott's Magic Company.
1976 - 1987
He performed at over 3,000 sold-out shows during his eleven-year run at the famed Tom-Foolery Magic Bar Theatre in Atlanta, Georgia.
1980
Red Skelton visited the Tom-Foolery and they became fast friends.
1985

1987
The Tom-Foolery closed
Mullica asked Skelton for his advice
Skelton suggested that he take his best material and perform it as a pantomime with music. This would eliminate any language barrier and could be performed anywhere in the world.
1988
Mullica took Skelton's advice and rehearsed for six months. He then moved to Paris, France where he worked at the Crazy Horse Saloon.
1991
Returned to the United States to continue his comedy magic career.
1996
Toured the United States and Canada with RED: A Performance Tribute, a Red Skelton tribute show which Mullica wrote and starred in as Skelton and his characters.
2013
Helped dedicate the Red Skelton Museum & Education Center.
Death
On February 15, 2016, Mullica was placed in an induced coma following complications stemming from a routine hernia operation, which caused him to have several strokes.
He subsequently suffered from organ and liver failure.
On February 18, it was decided to take Mullica off life support.
He was 67 years of age.

Met Tom M in Atlanta at the Harvest of Magic many years ago. Tom was a highly skilled manipulator and extremely funny man, he is sorely missed.

I remember I stumbled across some magic, and I had no idea who any magicians were. Tom was one that I first saw and inspired me to be different. His style had a lot of comedy and weird but advanced sleight of hand and mouth magic. The originality I saw was just clever and entertaining. I need to start doing the contact lense one it's so good
