Wow! As someone considering going to diesel tech school, I really appreciate your video. Right after college i began working in the west texas oil field, at an oil field waste disposal facility specifically. We had excavators and forklifts out there, and part of my job duties was to perform regular maintenance on them. I loved that part of my job, although i didn't know it then. At the same time, i also worked a lot with centrifugal and injection pumps. Most of my working work hours were spent mechanic-ing. I quit that job due to my personal life. I was working over 84 hours a week, usually 2 to 3 weeks in a row. I also have my CDL, although I don't like driving anymore, and I'm a proficient heavy equipment operator. For the last three months, after quitting a job at a company, i absolutely disliked, I've been lost as a for what to do next. I miss the old days when i used to work repairing heavy equipment, and i have come to realize that that is something I love doing. Now I want to go to school to learn Diesel mechanics properly and do that for a living, hoping to eventually have my own heavy equipment repair business. Again, thank you for making this video. 💪

@eljimy13 It's been very rewarding. I ended up going back to working on equipment. Trucks was good but doing tires gets fucking old real quick. You will work 50 hours weekly minimum on the equipment side. Field service is around 60-70 weekly. I plan on starting my own truck here in the near future.

I currently work at a subaru dealer as a flat rate tech I love it there recently got an opportunity to be a tech/apprentice for a heavy hauling company I'm looking into the heavy truck but not sure what I should do both are interesting to me and I have no reason to leave at the current moment did you like the pace of being hourly vs flat rate and not really having customers/ waiters

@stauch-tz4kn Personally, I learned very quickly that I wasn't a flat rate tech. I like taking my time when I do stuff and doing the little things like, for example, cleaning the hub to rotor mating surface and putting some anti sieze for the next guy. Flat rate dudes just throw that new rotor on and go. I never did well with being pressured and having people waiting on me. I still don't do well with it. Personally, I would only work a flat rate job if you have a guaranteed hourly amount that is decent for when it's slow or when you get your ass kicked by big or new jobs. I love the heavy side for a career. I still do automotive for myself and the whole family, which is enough for me. I really enjoyed trucks and trailers, and I would go back with no issues, but I ended up recently going back to where I started my heavy career working for Caterpillar. The heavy side is a much different animal. Everything is heavy, and your tool needs are never-ending. Entry-level pay is usually pretty bad, but after a couple of years, it gets better. Many guys on the heavy equipment side are making 40-60 an hour with basically unlimited OT after 5-8 years. If you end up switching, just leave on good terms in case you don't like it.

the only difference between working in heavy equipment and semi trucks is that heavy equipment is mainly a lot more electrical and hydraulics which is the biggest common failures and semi trucks is mainly transmissions and brakes the biggest common failures

@RicoButler-rx9kf I know Averitt hires drivers through temp programs who are fresh out of jail & prison so I would guess they are.

Just curious about your feelings regarding the EV push from climate loonies. They want to destroy any I.C.E. including anything Diesel.
@TylerTheFieldServiceTech Жыл бұрын
I personally feel that the EV being "cool" fad will fade off due to the long-term charging, battery life,replacement, recycling & environmental issues that will be "discovered" that we already know about.... long story short, I'm not a fan of EV at all. Hopefully.. eventually..... probably in the next decade or two, hydrogen will replace the diesel engine. That's my hope for my stock portfolio, haha
