Thanks for the video. Very informative. Im in cdl school and theyre saying that the rub bars are not rated for strapping to. They say your suppose to anchor on the lip underneath the trailer but i see everyone strapping to rub bar
@TylerTheFieldServiceTech
@TylerTheFieldServiceTech Күн бұрын
@willmill409 Yeah, that's false 100%. They probably say stake pockets are okay, but rub rail is no go, don't they? Meanwhile, the rub rail is litterally thicker steel with more welds. The tiedowns will break before the welds or rub rail do. Welds and rub rail are waaaayyyyy stronger than tiedowns. Just try to keep your hooks and chains routed through the inside of the rub rail. Keep your binder handles inside the rub rail. They will get you for that and loose tiedowns. Everything else they dont care about. They want that shit secure.

Im starting my own authority and i wanted any tips on how to build a relationship with brokers as a new authority and how to get past that first 90days with not running myself in a hole... should i email all my info to a few brokers before booking a load?
@TylerTheFieldServiceTech
@TylerTheFieldServiceTech 3 күн бұрын
@ManiRashid-vo5ck You will build a relationship with brokers just by working with them. Some of them will call you for additional loads. Most of them you will never speak to again. Brokers don't dictate the authority requirements it's dictated by the brokerage they work for. They will get your info when you book you a load. When it's your first load with a brokerage, you have to send a carrier packet that has a certificate of insurance in the brokerage's name & a few other documents. You will struggle with authority until you get past your first year. The market was so flooded years back with new hotshots & truckers that the big legit brokerages refused to work with new people. It's gonna be an uphill battle the entire time, man. Brokers will take advantage of you because they know you're new. They will give you shit rates & refuse to negotiate. You really have to earn your place in this cutthroat industry. It's tough, man. not gonna sugar coat it you're in for a battle.

@silverrussell1978 Break in oil change for the final drives i would do at around 250hrs. I would change every filter at around 250hrs and then start the normal interval cycle. @dannydanny1034 Atlanta, GA. I worked for a fleet company called Averitt at the time I made this. Honestly, man, you can fix this yourself for cheap. Get a small ratcheting chain hoist is really all you need. I used a 1/4 & 1/2 ton chain hoist for all my repairs. It will still bend up without torching. Torching just gives you a better and straighter repair. A shop will probably charge you 2-3 hundred to fix this.

$3,000 in 'profit'. 😂 I would love to see a 10 year breakdown of actual expenses, i.e. insurance, tire wear for the truck and trailer, depreciation on your truck and trailer, cost of replacement straps, tarps, tire chains, vehicle repair like oil change, radiator flush, tranny oil change, new brakes, wheel bearings, coolant leaks, random major repairs like vehicle computers, and small stuff like light bulbs going out, flat tires, tire rotations, etc... Turns that $3,000 into maybe $$1,500 real profit. 😂

@hoff6488 You're wasting time and money changing the filter at 4500 miles. I've ran numerous oil samples over 9500 miles with that fleetguard. The filter still had plenty of life and oil had easy over 4k-6k of life left from the sample. I change oil and filter between 9-11k depending on idle time. I only run Fleetguard or donaldson filters & Schaeffer's or valvoline oil though. As long as you're running Valvoline, Schaeffer's or Amsoil 10w30 or 5w40 you will be fine

Ok fellas let me offer a solution to high priced equipment . The answer is a credit union they work better with small businesses on auto loans , insurance , 401k . You pay lower interest rates on all the above I mentioned . Your hotshot companies are failing apart of it is your banking institutions . Another thing is financial education these credit unions offer you too . Another part of the equation is no CDLs . You seriously think you’re gonna hope into the trucking industry with no point of reference and just make ungodly money with no CDLs 😂 . Even if you decide not to use a credit union which is a very bad idea considering the fact you get low interest rates on car loans , commercial insurance . Use your local community banks instead not great but better than big banks . Last note please get your CDLs it’s gonna prepare you in the long run . Another thing good CPA can save you thousands . In business it’s not about how much cash you make but how much you keep .

They are great at dealing with you initially, but it is quite another situation later......where you have to deal with their head office in Clearwater , FL, USA . They really just don't give a Sh*t about service and your satisfaction...it's just all about the money and your credit card.....they barely have staff that will serve you in your regional language and they often outsource customer service to foreign countries to get rid of your problems. . If THEY SCREW UP.....they don't act...like a bunch of numb nuts , they just wait and let your bill inflate as they basically keep your belongings hostage. Their administration is so laired that you always have to spend HOURS every time you need to deal with them. I will clear my bill , get my stuff back and sue them "in their own language"...for a lot! Please explain why tying directly from the vehicle to the trailer you lose half of the working load strength of the binder. A straight line under tension is always stronger and more stable than tensioned bends and angles and I'm having a hard time rationalizing two chains and two binders reaching across a load being equally strong as four chains and four binders on all four corners. Thanks!
@TylerTheFieldServiceTech
@TylerTheFieldServiceTech 2 ай бұрын
Ask the FMCSA haha. It's just the law for us. There is some science behind it. I misspoke in the video. The tiedown loses half its strength. My weakest point is actually the chain because it's only rated for 4700 lbs. If I was running 3/8 chain it would have been the binder
