I'm 65, and I became a HUGE Stooges fan in about 1960, watching reruns on Saturday morning on an Admiral black and white TV. I remember it so well. The Three Stooges and then, Flash Gordon, Sky King, and Circus Boy (Micky Dolenz of The Monkees). I remember also, about 20 years ago, my mother-in-law was visiting from Italy (she doesn't speak English), and we were watching "Disorder in the Court," and when Curly fell off the witness stand, my mother-in-law laughed hysterically for ten minutes! A great memory in our family.

The 3 Stooges still do for me today what they did when I was 6yo: Entertain me, make me smile and I feel better. After a long day at school I could count on seeing them sometime between 3PM and 6PM. It helped reduce my stress and I looked forward to that. With no other way to make it up to them, Joe Besser and Joe DeRita included, I can honor their memory only by continuing to enjoy their acting. Once stowed away on a Russian Submarine, Shemp makes everybody sick by eating a sausage while they all became seasick. They didn't show it but where do you throw up in a Submarine? Both Curley and Shemp did the plumbing scene in the tub, creating a cage of piping. Priceless.

In my view, it was MUCH more than just the old addage labels of them being "silly" "stupid" or "crazy" as you often hear. The stooges were comic geniuses that were far ahead of their time and did in such a way that can be imitated but never duplicated.

Chaplin has received an Honorary Oscar; The Marx Bros have an honorary Oscar..... The Three Stooges and Abbott & Costello are long overdue for theirs.

@dariowiter3078 8 жыл бұрын
The Stooges, along with Abbott & Costello, didn't write their own material; in other words, both teams weren't "creative" comedians like Chaplin, Stan Laurel of Laurel & Hardy, and, the Marx Brothers. It's very doubtful that the Stooges or Bud & Lou will get that honor from the Academy.

As I always have said about the Three Stooges: No matter how sad, upset, angry, stressed out you may become at times in your life, a few minutes with the boys and life is smiles and laughs again. The three stooges are the best cure for most ailments in life, at least the ones that can be fixed with a few moments of laughter which is the best medicine.

Its actually pretty sad you have to have a disclaimer to explain to a so called educated society that you can't hit someone in the head with a hammer! We grew up with the "violence" of the three stoodges, bugs bunny, road runner etc, yet I guess we were so stupid we never hit anyone with a hammer, dropped and anvil on our head,or shot ourselves in the face with a gun. sad commentary on today's people!

RJ- Back in the early 60s a moron neighborhod kid shouldered a wooden stock and steel-barrelled rifle replica and purposely did an about-face to hit me (in the eyebrow) with the barrell, much like how the stooges might do...that about-face put a small dent in my eyebrow that i have to this day, so there were idiots out there back in the 60s imitating the stooges. However I never would want the stooges (or old cartoons) censored for that type of slapstick, or any other reason.

I don't know about that one. Kids have always done some dumb things they seen on movies and TV. I'll admit it. Back in the 70s I was a little girl watching the stooges and got in trouble for smacking people. My mom (who hated that show) wouldn't let me watch the Stooges for a month. When I became an adult, I found out my cousin did the same things during the 1950's and if course, he got in trouble in the same way. too! Lol. Both of us grew up fine.

Moe Howard was one of the very Kindest and most Wonderful Guys to ever Set Foot In Hollywood, California film studios. When families in Hollywood and Santa Monica were hit with hard times he gave away bags of groceries to the hungry kids and their parents in the neighborhoods everywhere. He was a Saint ! On Thanksgiving day he gave dinners to them too. 3 Cheers for Moe, Larry and Curly and Shemp !

7:18- Don’t forget Shemp! Also…now it’s 90 years later since the stooges shorts debuted! Truly a handful of the funniest men to have ever lived. RIP guys. Too bad curly never lived passed the Columbia years, nor did Shemp 😢

Shemp started out first before Curly. After he left, Curly came on. After Curly became ill and couldn't continue with the show, Shemp came back.
