There are two unmarked buttons on the transmitter. If your phone is connected and you are using the transmitter to fly, the top unmarked button takes a photo and the bottom button starts/stops video. While video is being recorded to the phone, the LED's on the drone flash. Hope that helps some users!

Really amazed by this. You said in your predictions video that drones would start coming this year with Spark level features for lower prices. Well yeah here we go, so it can’t fly a mile well the Spark is so small you can’t see it that far away anyhow. I think makers are just going to keep pushing the real test is someone breaking through and nailing the gimbal. When that happens the market is going to explode. Great job again Steve!

I expect by mid summer we will begin to see gimbals (at least 2 axis) on drones under $200 becoming standard.

For a non pro like me, just add EIS like from the Tello to this xs816 and I’d be pretty happy. With gimbals, the flight time would be affected but again with this drone, 20mins minus the addition of the gimbal would be Ok.

I have this drone and its not bad. I will say the screws that hold the foldable arms in place come off and I had to tape strips around them to be able to fly the drone.

I have had some problems with my visuo 809s . That is the first version of the battle shark. One off the motors went really hot . So it pulled on to the left after 10 min of flying. And whas unable to fly after 10 min. But the batterylife is great . I have bought a second hand . And it still fly's great indoors. Can't untill they build something with a gimball. Cause the camera is nice Captain Drone. Greetz from the Netherlands . Keep up the great vids .

I bought it on Ali Express. Just received it. This is my very first drone. Unlike you, i have to use the pad to parametrer it cause it does not stay in the same place while i’m not asking it to moove. But it feels like it’s a good one. For the price that is an amazing drone! I have a Mavic Air but this drone would make a great 'basher' for just flying around. Because it's less than 250g you can take it anywhere too! If that flight time of 20 minutes per battery is real, this is as you said a great first time drone! I'm very tempted myself. for that price you cannot go wrong!! Kerching!!

There can never be just one beginner drone, or that would be boring. But, when I see drones that are suitable for beginners, I point them out. This one is great for the beginner with minimal funds because it is under $100. Over $100, I point people to the BUGS 2SE or similar drone.

Nice review, as a previous owner of the Visuo XS809 and XS812 this bring back good memories 🙂 So basically the XS816 is the XS812 without the GPS and removable camera module, but with dual-camera optical flow and the same control scheme as the XS809 (same physical remote and the option for using your mobile device as a remote and not just as a FPV like the XS812)? The 1800 mAh battery also seems to be the same for the XS809, XS812 and XS816. For those who doesn’t fly too high, willing to trade the GPS for extended flight time and likes to fly indoors the XS816 seems like a great choice for a beginner drone 👍

As of now, I would definitively have gone for the XS816 - the optical flow feature alone makes it worth it. Although I didn't get too much time with the XS809S, as I lost it a week after I got it :-(

The drone would not do great in the wind since it has brushed motors. Brushed motors only appear on drones that are very lightweight and not designed for the wind.

No Micro SD cards for this drone model. The hole is there, but there is no Micro SD card tray in the hole. A different model would have the Micro SD tray.

Captain Drone, I'm having a problem connecting the Remote Control to the XS816. I followed your instructions exactly and the lights on the drone keep "fast-flickering" although when drone is turned on alone the lights flicker slowly. When remote control is turned on the drone "fast-flickers" but the two don't seem to want to connect. Thoughts?

Headless mode is for beginners. If you move the joystick forward, no matter which direction the front of the drone is facing, it will go forwards.

They are both very simple drones for just having fun. I like the XS816 because it has the dual cameras. I should mention that one thing people have noticed with this drone is that the battery expands a bit and can feel like it gets stuck in the rear... you just have to yank it out.

I don't have this drone anymore. For distance the range would most likely be 100 meters and for height, probably 50 meters or more. These come with USB battery chargers so it depends on what type of USB device you plug it into. Average time would be over an hour to charge an empty battery.

This is an old vid... I don't remember. Most budget drones have the controller make beeping sounds when the battery is low.

I just bought the holy stone hs120d to start out. I tried it inside the house the other night. I pressed the one key take off, took off rose to about 5 feet up, and started drifting. Tried to correct it and it almost hit my girlfriend in the head...lol. I think I'll take it outside from now on until I get the hang of it.
