Ed Coan is such an amazing guy. I tore my bicep a few years back and remembered an interview of him talking about having a similar injury. Sent him a dm with no expectation of a response and he totally hit me up and we had a great back and forth. Fast forward a few years and I was at a seminar of his. My coach knows him and mentioned I'd be there, and was really proud I just pulled 605. Ed heard my name and told me he heard about my deadlift and then watched the video and critiqued it. @petersouleyrette848410 күн бұрын
I will admit, I used to watch Matt Wenning a while ago, but I’m completely sick of him. One thing that always bothered me is his complete dogmatism on things that are obviously false. For example he claims bicep curls are terrible for the shoulder. This makes zero sense because to my knowledge most bodybuilders who have done tons and tons of curls don’t have destroyed shoulders when compared to people who don’t curl. In fact they probably have healthier shoulders since the elbow joint has been strengthened. In addition he claims overhead pressing is bad for the shoulder because something something “the bone rubs against the joint” excuse me WHAT?! Dude no evidence of overhead pressing inherently being bad for the shoulder exists, but when Wenning is pressed on this he gives vague appeals to authority like “ask any ortho doc about that shit” it’s not an answer to a question. Lastly i unsubscribed from him because of his content on Jefferson curls and spinal flexion. He said spinal flexion was bad because a study of powerlifters attempting to deadlift like 700 pounds potentially had herniated disc’s afterwards as a result. This is NOT an argument against Jefferson curls being bad because literally no one is doing a 700 pounds Jefferson curl… but he doesn’t respond with an actual statement when pressed on issues like this. He just appeals to authority or insults the person asking the question. I honestly really appreciate you exposing him like this because in my eyes Matt is a charlatan
@kylewells192810 күн бұрын
the overhead pressing thing is also wild because tons of powerlifters have bum shoulders from benching but as far as I can tell strongmen don't have that problem?

@kylewells1928 yep exactly. Like I’ve never once heard that it’s bad except from Wenning. Truly makes no sense to me lol
@alugificator10 күн бұрын
There is an argument that people with a hooked acromion subtype would be better off avoiding certain types of overhead pressing due to greater risk of AC joint impingement. That's not to say it's inherently bad, but that certain people should consider the risk/benefits more carefully. That said, barbell benching is way worse for the shoulders than biceps curls. That's usually the first thing I cut out if dealing with someone with crap shoulders.
@shades43139 күн бұрын
Yep, and another one he’s wrong about is knees over toes. He claims it destroys knees but it actually strengthens them and makes them more resilient. I have direct experience with this
@patrickjulius73529 күн бұрын
@@petersouleyrette8484 lot of people warn against OHP risks. Joe DeFranco, Meadows before he died was really careful with it, Dave Tate, etc. and many strongmen have jacked shoulders (Kazmaeier, for example). benching is problematic, which wenning always admits, but has ways to mitigate those risks (narrower grip, mixing variations, upper back work).

I knew you were following the Tim Kennedy scandal since you mentioned Jocko's allegations in a previous video or podcast. I also find those things really interesting, along with the Rob O' Neil stuff too. Crazy how many of these guys who are ultra succesful (Tim was a UFC fighter and special ops soldier) still find the need to lie. These guys were essentially the peak of manliness as seen by young men, yet they still have a massive chip on their shoulders I'd venture to say that that is partly the reason why they even got that far in their career. A normal person wouldn't feel the need to compete in high-level martial arts AND then become reach the very top of a military career, AND still feel the need to lie to people who don't even know any better. He clearly needed a ton of validation due to his insecurities, which led him to these draconian pursuits, and yet they still didn't fix his insecurities. You can see that in fitness too.

@atlaspowershrugged Motivation is motivation, but people like this tend to get extra motivation from their inner self esteem issues, so they tend to get a bit further. This brings me to one of my favourite ments someone dropped in the comments of the og videos about Tim Kennedy. A guy said he and his friend were going to a convention of some sort, and there were UFC fighters there for meetups. Tim Kennedy was there of course. The commentors friend was a big UFC fan, so of course he went to get a picture with Tim. When they went and the friend got their pic, Tim said to the OP "You want to get a pic too?" The OP was like "Nahh, thanks." After that Tim blew his lid and started yelling at OP for "wasting his time" and other bullshit. He couldn't imagine someone would't want a picture with him. Can you imagine being that person mentally? Being so narcissistic (as they say, no one likes Tim Kennedy as much as Tim Kennedy), yet so weak mentally that a random person not worshipping you makes you meltdown publically. He clearly isn't a very balanced, emotionally healthy person.

The notion that Poliquin would wish he would train like another man is laughable considering he believed nothing new had been invented in training since the 60s (except whatever he was trying). C'mon, Matt. Don't be such a Tim Kennedy. My feed is filled with Tim Kennedy drama. The Vet community is just like the lifting community, everyone inflates their previous experiences and achievements. I totally benched 405 in high school, just like everyone else. Just like I and everyone else were also Rangers on Delta Force Recon Team 6 and single-handedly won the War on Terror with nothing more than our M4s and a can do attitude. I just kinda accept the BS when dealing with lifters and other Vets, to an extent, but people making BS claims publicly to further their careers, that's a bit far and disrespectful to others that put their time in and sacrificed following either pursuit.

As multiple people have opined, telling exaderated war stories to a girl at the bar to get laid is one thing. But when you're publiclly putting other people down to make it seem like you're better, that has to be addressed.

Tim Kenneday bragged about shooting children soldiers and having no guilty conscience whatsoever for collateral damage, he genaded a civilian family and blamed the Tailban. That was all before the antihero podcast. He grabbed Yoel Romero's gloves leading to the knockdown Yoel's corner proceeded to wet the ring during the rounds to buy time, but Tim claimed the UFC robbed him that's why he retired, not mentioning he got knocked out by Gastelum. He is like Hulk Hogan, just couldn't stop lying to get one up on everyone.

Perhaps he was angry and reactionary at first but perhaps he just sat down and thought about it and did some more research and realized he should’ve read the fine print and realized he was scammed? Perhaps someone who doesn’t have to lie actually didn’t and actually did overlook some things and get scammed? Perhaps there’s no proof that you ever had a phone call with Ed Coan and this is just more spews for views?
