Great episode - pretty much laughed through the whole thing. I live in Michigan and ride all winter so I have experienced the dreaded penile frost nip. Sounds like you had a pretty extreme case. Also I signed up for my first fat bike race - the Fat Bike Birkie race this year also in Wisconsin so I really enjoyed the pointers.

That sucks. A vasectomy is worse, your body just rejects it, and it’s worst than blue # and there’s no relief. But your body adapts. Welcome to being an adult.

As someone who suffers from Raynaud's phenomenon, this happens to my hands every time I go outside and it's even the slightest bit chilly. Even with thick gloves on. I've never had it down there though, I can only imagine how painful that must be :|

I'm cool with Zany VC, you do you bro, but Conversational VC really told this story well, thanks, Tyler. I learned a lot about a fat bike race and the genre in general and I was riveted to your post-race troubles and you are right, that should be freely shared insider info from the get-go. And it was nice of the Wisconson delegation to make you feel at home in their woods.

I don’t have a wiener so I don’t REALLY understand. But I get frost nip on my toes every time I ride in coldish temperatures no matter what I do. That pain and burning fire feeling as they warm up is off the chart. I can’t even imagine that happening in such a sensitive area. 😬

Great video! I really feel your pain, I live 300km above the polar circle and this has happened to me multiple times sadly :( It really helps to put some chemical hand warmers on the lower end of your belly! Sometimes it might also help to put it in a sock, but it useally shrinks so much during the race that it doesn't stay in place and then the sock is just annoying

Paramedic/ironman/ultramarathoner/ski mountaineer here who has suffered the same fate, as far as coming up to the ambulance with a frozen member, yeah, not a problem for us. We see plenty of nudity at work. Unfortunately, we're probably just going to tell you to keep it warm and protected from having anything rub on it for a few days. Maybe take some ibuprofen as needed.

Good to hear your bits are sorted. I have had grade 1 on my legs (soft Londoner goes to Canada in winter and didn't wear proper over trousers). That was insanely bad, like someone had set the front of my legs on fire. On the end of your bits whooah! I have done the zipper error, which is very bad ....... and you have the jeopardy of the insane pain and the knowledge you have to back down that zip!!!! A friend managed to do it for me by doing the old trick of right I'll count to three and then just rips it down on two. That was painful and it bled a lot, stitches were required and skin was lost. So you have my heartfelt sympathies.

I relate so much. Once I froze my hands on a bike so much and I did the worst thing you could do - put them in hot water... The pain was so excruciating that I got nauseous and started hyperventilating. So, I can only imagine what an agony it must have been if it was the most sensitive part of the body right after the ballsack and eyeballs...

Amazing story, haha, riding all winter all my life, never had my wiener freezing - 😆 but also was never going on so less cloths for such an event. My favorite races here in Michigan are fatbike races. Beats summer XC stuff. It's ridiculous, lots of harmless crashes and most are short CX style courses with laps and laps which is a whole different element of most XC races. Also, never had this issue, I'm 220# and have my fat to keep me warm😂

Mountain biked year round back in Minnesota. Long before fat bikes existed. I competed in a winter race series. First race it was 25 below zero, without the windchill factor. Placed second, despite leading the race for the entire race until the last 50 feet. DOH!! Never saw him coming. Second race was 45 below zero without the windchill. My derailleur froze up and exploded into a dozen pieces. Assuming the grease or chain lube froze solid. The coldest I've ever ridden in was 85 below zero with windchill. Never got the wiener version of Mr. Deeds blackfoot.😂
