When I saw dude I always knew he could be used for more then just punter and use him on other packages. Only so few of them are actually athletic enough, but leave it to Raiders to be dull and lackluster.

For a time when i couldn't understand why my dad loved the raiders so much (considering they sucked and still do) I really gained my own love for the team watching KICKERS play. Yea, we had Darren McFadden, Charles Woodson, etc... but I loved seeing Sebastian Janikowski, and the only Black punter I've ever seen. When I first started getting into football it was kind of a stereotype that kickers are always those much less athletic, wimpy looking white guys, but are still very vital to the team. When i saw King, as a black child, i was blown away cause he brought a whole different swag to the position for me. My favorite part about watching him is he looked good and he played good. I think watching Sebastian Janikowski break record field goals and then seeing King do his thing is one of my favorite parts of watching the raiders on the old field. I never got to go to a game on that field... It was my dream. :(

I've never understood why the NFL just let him go. He was incredible. I watched him dominate game after game in StL with the BattleHawks... people would show up just to watch him. We had a section called King's Corner. I always told him he is my favorite punter ever... and probably always will be.

Probably because they didn't want a league of electrifying black kickers and punters in 5-10 yrs, who'd probably want to be paid, lol. They didn't like his "attitude" because he didn't "know his place." I'm a Seahawks fan, and King was the singular reason I gave the Raiders half a glance. Plus, he was from the area near my hometown. I feel like if you made a beautiful punt that pinned the opponent inside your own red zone, handicapping your opponent's special team's monster player, you should be able to celebrate as much as you want. Unfortunately, that pos Gruden was his coach who would've rather had a bed sheet on a clothesline swaying in the wind as a punter than King, lol.

Punting is so overlooked and undervalued. In a game (nfl specifically) where wins are decided by slim marigins all the time, the ability to effect the other team's field position is huge.

Marquette was a college wide receiver and just punted for fun until the coaches saw him blast a ball across the field. They made him choose remain as 4th string wide out or switch to starting punter. So he wasn't on any teams radar. There's audio of the Dallas sideline screaming FAKE! when he ran out on the field. You should try to get an interview with him, Isaac

Probably not a guy that you can find much on but Kyle Basler was a punter for Washington State in the early 2000's. Guy was an animal. Played football against him in Pop Warner and he was a phenomenal running back in high-school. Still surprised he never stuck in the NFL.

King wasn't on Lechler's level, this is crazy. The only thing he was close on was leg strength. Lechler was infinitely better at directional punting and putting the ball where it needed to be inside of the 10.

Enjoyed watching the King. Still remember him going on NFL Network dressed like a king. They asked him if he’d talked with new HC Jon Gruden & King said something like “Gruden, Gruden? Of the Monday Night Football guy?” That was it. Released from the Raiders the next day. The to the Broncos where he made a video with a Chucky doll with money taped all over it making fun of Gruden’s “Chucky” nickname years earlier. Injury in Denver & suddenly out of the NFL. It’s a shame because he had made great punts. Some said that coaches don’t want a sideshow coming from special teams not do they want a celebrity punter for the way he acts.
