whenever i notice someone do that to me (casually provoking me because they're in power) i put on an emotionless face and i stare into their eyes without speaking. *No matter how long the interaction is. Stare into their eyes with a neutral unaffected expression, keep quiet and wait.* They'll give up because they'll realize that if you don't give them what they want (which is to let them get under your skin) then they're just losing their time TRYING to make you feel bad. Don't reply to them, either (because as you said, they didn't care about the paper, he just wanted to hurt you). Just wait. they'll move on.

Lily, dealing with rude people is part of my daily routine. I totally get how do you feel. I'm doing my medical internship here in Malaysia ( claimed to be the worst in the world...well I wont deny it!! ) I get up early in the mrng, as early as 3-4 in the mrng, be in the hospital the whole day or sometimes even days. But the amount of rude remarks I get on daily basis, sometimes I dont even know where I get that patience. I literally will imagine them in Mortal Combat scene, and I killed all of them everytime they being rude to me. Rude to the next level, dont even care who is in front, just used all the bad words in the vocab, also in different languages.

Totally with you on the INTENTIONAL rudeness pet peeve! It used to be unimaginable for me to understand why someone would go out of their way to make you as miserable as themselves. One day it dawned on me that their child or mother could be fatally ill and I was just their stress ball. So now every time someone does this I just imagine this situation is the case and it helps me to keep my own chill (and give them the kindness they obviously desperately need). Hope this perspective might help you too. It still is hard for me to understand why, even in such horrible conditions, you would want to be rude and hurt someone else as it will make you feel even worse. Also...karma is a bitch if you're a bitch.
