We've got some hooked up in the geology lab with a kinetic (ba-doom tish) sand pit and projector to make 3D topography maps on the fly and model flooding and stuff. It's a surprisingly versatile piece of tech - the profs love them cause their usually pretty cheap for what they can do. I still have a hard time reconciling the cool stuff we use them for in academia with the bug fest of smacking walls and siblings that was my experience as a kid using them for their intended gaming purposes 😅

It is notable for having some of the most well-designed courses on the series, some pretty fun items, incredible customization options, and a godawful control system that was made only bearable by the fact the motions required were just tilting your body and jumping

ah man, i really forgot just how nostalgic the music used in the Kinect games are. i only had a PS2 and a modded Xbox original until, like, 2013 when the family got a 360 with a kinect. i was so used to classics and weird shovelware gameboy ROMs that something so new was absolutely mind boggling to me, hearing the music i remember the smell of the resort we were at, how the sun was shining so bright yet it was still chilly, and even the taste of the gum i was chewing practically the whole time we were there. such good times. did you know you can throw the bowling ball into the crowd? i remember there being an achievement for it as well as breaking the floor, and on the javelin throw, you can throw it so damn hard it goes past every single landmark and impales a screen on the opposite end of the field. man, i actually want to play kinect now. Kinect Adventure was a great one too, i love the one with the balls bouncing off the back wall like a game of Breakout, i played the hell out of fruit ninja kinect (which actually has a VR edition now), and there was a game called Wreckateer that i played a helluva lot. i tweeted that there should be a VR version of it and the devs even liked my post i'll never forget the time i spent playing Halo 4 on legendary difficulty just so i could get the Praetorian or whatever helmet for my avatar so i could use it in the Kinect games, too. or was it a master chief helmet? or... was one of them for getting a back assassination on the praetorian? it's been so long... oh, and because the boxing segment reminded me, i remember one time my brother, dad and i were all playing it at his house shortly after the divorce and my younger brother literally pissed himself laughing in the middle of two-player boxing. kinda weird that that, of all things, is so ingrained in my memory

These games are a core memory for me so being able to watch content like this is truly a treasure! First Kevin's Kinectimals video, and now this?

I remember playing Dance Central and Just Dance games with friends on the Kinect and we always had a blast. It's so janky but I'll always remember the great times that arose for years

I really liked the irony that the kinnect has been the most successful hardware of its time for every field except gaming.

I like that almost immediately after the Dark Souls music started playing, the opponent did a dodge roll. Damn that muscle memory is deeply ingrained.

I admire Dan’s insistence on playing whatever the hell he wants rather than chasing trends because it leads to gems like this where he digs out old games we vaguely remember as kids and get to relive and make fun of as adults now

Fun fact, my town used to have some sort of a summer program where kids could sign up for different courses/clubs, usually either for free or at a small fee. One of the clubs, organised by my IT teacher was a "computer club", where our teacher brought her own Kinect from home and we literally played THIS GAME (and this game only) for 2 weeks straight, everyday
