I’m pretty sure that’s it’s cannon that the characters in risk of rain 2 are on a rescue mission for the contact light survivors

@@henryrothert6160 I don't mean to be an annoying bugger. But I read through the steam page and the entire tumblr and I've yet to find anything written about it there. @DS-el3dt4 жыл бұрын
@@Denizu While I don't think it's completely confirmed that our characters in ror2 are part of the rescue mission, I do think there's two pieces of evidence that hint towards this, the monster logs and the way Acrid spawns when you start the game with him. The monster logs in ror2 are written by another character, who is a naturalist researcher documenting life on the planet. Furthermore in the chronological first log (jellyfish) he states his "Untimely arrival" which means that this planet was their destination, and he couldn't have been part of the contact light. It would already be strange for a nature researcher to be present on a cargo ship. This confirms that our characters who find these logs are either part of this rescue mission or arrive afterwards. Acrid is unlike any of the ror characters, he's an alien, but more importantly he's a character rather than a class. Every other character is referred to as "the" in ror1, the commando, the loader, etc. but Acrid is only referred to as Acrid, it's his name, not his title/position/class. When he spawns in he's sleeping on the planet, not dropping in like any of the other characters. Because of this it seems he is the same Acrid as in ror1, already being on the planet. This in turn would then confirm the other characters arrive after the crash of the first game.
@DS-el3dt4 жыл бұрын
Furthermore, Rex's lore shows him as being part of a ship called the ues [redacted], the only other ship referred to by this name is the one mentioned in the tougher times lore.

An interesting topic for a video might be the Void Fields in RoR2. I didn't play much of the first game so I don't know a whole lot about how it might connect there, but there is a good amount of content in 2 related to it. Some cool points are like how the Void Reavers are related to the dimension, with corpses of them in the dimension and near the void portal in the Bazaar Between Time. It's neat that the ones around the portal look like they're impaled by glass spikes, like maybe the Newt was keeping them out? Like the reavers are targeting him? If you die to a void reaver's implosion attack, it gives you the unique message of "You have been detained, await your sentence at the end of time." It's like the void reavers are some weird extra-dimensional police. Maybe the void fields are like some kind of prison dimension, but that wouldn't explain why dead reavers are there. Since you unlock Acrid from this dimension, maybe he was detained and imprisoned by void reavers? It would go along with his whole theme of being a prisoner. All in all the whole subject is pretty interesting.

Other small tidbit: after clearing all 9 cells the fog clears and reveals kelp like plants in the areas outside the play area
@colinmueller17744 жыл бұрын
I've found a little more evidence for some of this, one interesting thing is one of the new stone tablets is split in two, with part of it in Siren's call while the other is in the void fields. The slice is perfectly round, so maybe part of it got caught in a reaver implosion and got sent to the void fields? It's also interesting that void reavers are one of the only creatures that spawns based on you having looped at least once instead of based on difficulty. Maybe time loops and stuff is what sends them after you?

Maybe the reason the ship had a teleporter in it is because the teleporters are not native to the planet, and are rather from the imp civilisation, the tentacle being aquired beforehand the discovery of the planet would corelate with the possesion of the teleporter, meaning both would be results of exchange with or against the imp civilisation, prior to the discovery of the planet, meaning the imps would have invaded the planet and planted the teleporter there themselves, this would also imply that providence would have some sort of connection with the imps rather than the planet (though this would not really explain how he is able to control the two wurms (unless the reason they seem different from magma worms would be because they were modified using imp technology)).

My theory is that the survivors are in a gigantic time-fractured planet, in both games we have the loop mechanic with the teleport system, we become ridiculously powerful ( the providence sometime address to the character as a "monster" when defeated, but as my opinion the whole world of this planet is pretty scary itself ) as we loop back at the places we visited before and collect more items. One of the new mechanic added in the second game are the colored portals (blue, white, yellow, etc) it's similar to the ones that use the Imps and it teleport to "another" dimension with some times references. The items that we collect are somehow "empowered" by the planet and became a part with the character body when collected ( quote for the enforcer in the first game "..and so he left, mutated beyond recognition."). I know "time" is an important theme in both of the games ( I can't spell it correctly but it's actually more than that ), in ROR2 it's directly tear the dimensions apart. I hope to learn more with the futures updates ( we approach the end-game content)

I noticed the delivery dates for the items a bit ago when I went back to play RoR1 again, nowhere to the same extent at all, but what I had assumed is that the Estimated Delivery was just that. An estimation for when those items should be delivered, not when they were, as it seems weird that they wouldn’t have exact dates for when an item, especially items as important as these, and since most of these items were on the Contact Light, meaning they probably weren’t delivered yet. Of course, this still doesn’t explain several of the weird things, such as warbanner being from the war of 2019, but having an estimated delivery of 1843. Or the mortar having an estimated delivery of 1946, and being called “outdated”. Of course even then, this would only push the date back a couple years at most, so ror1’d happen around maybe 55, 53 at most(?), opposed to 56, if what I came up with was correct. Regardless, great video! I will definitely be watching more of them

One thing I noticed that hints that risk of rain 2 takes place just a little bit after risk of rain 1, is the "Predatory instinct" item. Its descriptions say that Providence and his worms were killed by a demon that fell from the sky and that it had 2 arms, 2 legs, and 22 unblinking crimson eyes. It also apparently belongs to the lizards and it hints that it happened recently as it states "Gossip spreads quickly". So at the minimum, I believe ROR2 take place not too long after ROR1 probability just a few months after the first game. Also, some of the environment logs and some of the lunar items detail two brothers talking to each other. I think one of the brothers is Providence and I think the other brother will be the final boss.

I never considered the dates on the shipments either and had an idea about the field found items that would make (at least most of) their "shipping dates" make more sense. I think that all of these logs are really manifests that the survivor has access to when they acquire an item, since all shipped items have a corresponding tracking number and information in real life it would make sense that that would happen in 2056 as well. Whenever the survivor finds these items they create a manifest that they can fill out with info on the item for themselves to keep track of their stuff. This would make the dates even more important for those items since it would give us a day/month/year location of when the survivor found them allowing us to further zone in on when the crash occurs and how long the survivor could have been on the planet for. For the Imp Overlord Tentacle I like your idea of humanity coming into contact with the imp species before the occurrence of the game, however its unlikely that humans have access to the red plain due to it not being mentioned in any other logs and it is some form of dimensional transportation that only is possible for the player via portals that only exist on the planet. It is more likely that somehow the tentacle was acquired by a field agent for some government agency that had it shipped to one of their labs. This would explain why the log is so far into the past, since information regarding it may have been stored in the system and the survivor finding this item would allow him to find this information. I feel like trying to put all of these items on a timeline would help with figuring out more info on the world surrounding the crash incident.

I think the reason the risk of rain 2 items have the same date is because it's all the items being reshipped and the logs with diffrent times in the hundreds or thousands can be explained by how traveling at diffrent speeds make something age differently so maybe the alloy warship has been floating through space for a long time or the teleporter can warp time since its instant travel

@@Denizu I don't know why I initially thought this, but I envisioned the Paladin as a worshiper of Providence. perhaps, working off the idea that humans were on the planet prior to the events of RoR1, an Imp Overlord's Tentacle marked for delivery was left on the planet at some point. we know that imps see the tentacles as a sign of social status, and so maybe a group of imps seeking to recover the tentacle tracked it back to the planet to reclaim it. later on, those imps would come back to try and conquer the planet, or at least hunt its inhabitants.

From what I can tell, from both gameplay mechanics, dates, and what you've said, there are probably time travel shenanigans going on. Multiple areas in RoR2 suspend time, you go into a time loop to previous stages, and as in the previous game, items being sent to years within the past as you've shown with the Mortar. What I'm really curious about is what's causing all of these time shenanigans...

Here's an idea: the warbanner has a pretty distinct, or at least looks to me, eye on it. Perhaps the contact between the Imps and humans ended in a war. The banner and tentacle could have been trophies of that war.
@l-boi30044 жыл бұрын
I've had the idea of all the survivors are in a time loop where they crash land on the planet (and my interpretation of RoR2 not having any time distortion based items means that time not what it was). While I have no way to substantiate my claim, I believe all the survivors are addicted to Spinal Tonic, and due to the anomly of being in a time loop they are drawn to the planet because of this addiction that has yet to be known. It ain't an airtight solution, but perscription in RoR was similar and I guess it may have been a derivative of Spinal Tonic because it's a lesser effect. The time loop is more so my interpretation of the game that I keep coming back to it, I know nothing of this place, but I return to it untouched, and explore anew every time. With each subsequent attempt across all these places I learn more of it and take quick and efficient choices to make the most of my time in a hostile environment that requires me to progress or die.

I think that risk of rain 2 might be happening at the same time as 1 just being stuck in some sort of time loop. The ship and survivors we follow is certainly different from 1 in a few cases. Like this time having a different Loader. However, characters like Acrid seem to be the same as from 1. Risk of Rain 2 seemingly has putten a heavier empthasis on time. Having areas where time is straight up stopped and even moments of fractured time. It seems like, while this time we might be a rescue team hinted at by the Rally point Deltas existance. It wouldnt be crazy to assume that the planet we visit cricles in the year of 2056 for its entire existance. So while we are visiting as some diffrent contact light team, we arrive at the same year as the first one. Likely the same month and day too. However, despite the planet being inside a time loop, it still does change over time. On one of the variants of distant roost, we can see the stone colossus either sleeping or likely even dead in the background. Now with the addition of sky meadow, all the children are gone and theres a device set up to open new portals on the planet. The previously, seemingly abandoned snowy areas of the planet, now have points where survivors would hide and wait for rescue. Not to mention the void fields or even a moment whole which both seem to exist in planes beyond time. So to sum it all up. Risk of rain 1 and 2 both happen within 2056. That is because the planet doesnt move on from this date. It remains on the year 2056, likely because of its seeming connection to time, like the newt altars scattered everywhere, that take you to "a bazaar BEYOND TIME". The planet is inaffected by time itself, however it can change with actions that the survivors of contact light take.

Finally a lore video of Ror
@quiettimegaming36424 жыл бұрын
I commented about this on your other RoR video... and watching this video gives it even more context, but what about the Stone Golem’s who hid themselves away so that they could listen to b-boy music, breakdance, and pop-lock? With an actual Earth boombox. I know it could be written off as a silly eater egg. But with all the other Easter Eggs in RoR, they still exist in the reality of the game. It might be meta, but makes sense. At first, I figured they’d gotten it from a crate when the cargo hold was attacked and dumped, but then, where’s the log for it? Literally everything else you find has a log entry for it... even an old worn-out teddy bear. So they would certainly be one had this been a radio meant to be delivered to someone... and why would someone from earth need a boombox delivered to them? Unless it’s a sentimental thing like the teddy bear, which I doubt. And what’s the likelihood a bunch of Golems would see a boombox, know what it is, figure out how to operate it, and also learn genre-appropriate dances to match the music (which I liked that the radio emitted its own music)? And what’s the likelihood a boombox would have fallen from space and remained intact? And had it somehow gotten there during THIS expedition, what’s likelihood all of that could have happened in the brief amount of time between when the cargo dump occurred and you being able to find them in the game? After watching this... I think it all points to the fact that *Humans had been there before,* probably on an exploration/research expedition and at some point probably even had a friendly enough relationship with some of the creatures to give them that boombox, maybe even show them some dance moves. And in turn maybe we were allowed to collect certain things from the environment, which explains how we already have some seemingly local stuff logged in our database that isn’t considered “found”. And my theory is that the expedition group drew Providence to the ship, which was still in orbit over this alien planet, and that also brought the imps and other foreign life forms to the planet (by way of the teleporter, which we can already surmise was ‘stolen’ from Providence’s home planet. And we know that the expedition group was using the tele-tech as a means to travel to and from a planet’s surface and to multiple points around the planet, making easier to gather resources to take back to Earth). And the fact these *foreign* creatures have been logged as violent or at least hostile towards the local life (like Imps) the entire planet has gone into red alert 🚨 mode, and because the humans are technically responsible for Providence’s (and his creatures) invasion it destroyed the tentative relationship we may have initially had, turning otherwise non-violent creatures into fighters... which also explains why so many of the creatures are not incredibly effective combatants. Because they didn’t need to be, before we came and brought a plague upon their planet. Holy shit... we’re the villains. And that’s why those hidden dancing Golem’s don’t attack you when you find them... they’ve been buried away under the side of the world practicing their dance moves, lol and aren’t even aware of what’s going on topside. Last they knew, we gave them some tunes, showed them some moves, and were still cool.

Two things to point out. 1. In RoR2, in the lunar shop for ten coins you can unlock Artificer, the survivor trapped in time, who somehow found their way into the possession of the Shopkeeper. 2. Predatory Instincts mentions Providence. "Gossip spreads quickly terrified communities. Stories that keep the more fearful lizardfolk in their passageways. Hushed tales that frighten the most commanding of stone constructs and woodfolk, and creatures of the plains. Fear Travels between the trees and the valleys. A demon, fallen from the Sky, mighty enough to slay Providence and his Wurms. Only two arms, two legs - but with 22 unblinking, crimson eyes." A curious logbook since none of the survivors currently available have that many eyes. And while I do not remember much on the items of the first game, the only eye related item that I know of belongs to the Lunar category, the Visions of Heresy. Which seems to have a part of a set of logs talking about the Heretic.

They don't naturally have those eyes, no. But over the course of a run, one might pick up a few Lens Maker's glasses. Those could be the crimson eyes that are being referred to.

Predatory Instincts does confirm that RoR1 ended with the Huntress slaying Providence and leaving said planet. My headcannon is that the survivors of Ror2 are part of a rescure mission gone array. We've yet to see who the boss of the sequel is but I think that once we get the survivors' logs and, especially, Acrid's log entry, we'll have more answers as to why we're, either, back on the planet or others are dropping by to save the original "survivors" or, as you mentioned, scavenge for monetary gain.

What if the shipping date on the items aren't relative to a single set timeline, but relative to the planets themselves? Like, if a planet has been 'founded' for 1843 years, it'd be year 1843 on that planet. Wherever the main planet, 2056 is, is probably the main hub.
@urchinowdelaresistance51094 жыл бұрын
There's a very simple alternative... this happens after the common era, say, year 0 starts once FTL travel is attained (does this setting have that?). If not it heavily suggests that humanity has time travel. Furthermore we don't seem to be only ones, the Lemurian of the Bazaar would seem to be 'out of time', as the achievement for the Artificer held as well outside of time by the Lemurian until lunar coins are given implies. But then, my question is, why? What is the meaning of all this? The alternative for humans anyway is that technology advanced much faster in their history than in hours. Given the nature of Imps and such as you mentioned, that would not surprise me either.

@lolface23844 жыл бұрын
To further explain, there is one log currently for the heresy chain of items. It states that the heretic was split into 4 parts and scattered. This heretic I believe is the same one who tried to prevent their sisters death/sacrifice for a ceremony.

@@lolface2384 That is only a theory, not confirmed. Just as many believe the heretic being scattered to a moon, and Providence's relative from the brittle crown log watching Provi from a dead rock (i.e. a moon) could just as well mean the heretic is the relative. Or they might be completely unconnected. As it is, we don't have enough evidence to form solid conclusions in regards to the game's lore. Not sure if the idea has been posed before, but in regards to the date, we don't know if they are what we would mark with an AD or CE suffix. Could the years be based on a new event that shaped humanity? 2057 might not be 2057 AD, but 2057 years after some new significant event that changed the course of humanity. Maybe FTL travel. It's referenced in a log or two that FTL ships are hard to come by nowadays. Making it sound like the technology has become limited in recent years (Perhaps due to the civil war. OR another more ominous event), but is widely known about. What do you think? Excellent videos, by the way. Max comfy.
@Denizu4 жыл бұрын
Comfy is what I was aiming at, so that's great! The lack of a suffix is very interesting, while I am sure humanity has existed for more than 2056 (ish) years, if Jesus marked year 0 or something else is interesting to ponder about doesn't change that much in the big picture. You are however very right on the note about technology. Despite human advancement, they still resort to utilizing "sticky bombs", "gasoline" and even the "fuel cells" are made to be effective, but unstable. It seems saving money is still very much important and the civil war must have also put some people in a tough spot. Excellent notes!

*I have a bit more of a theory, and it's REALLY long, so feel free to read in your leisure. If you feel like it, feel free to hear me out. I first talk about the Solus Control Unit, and then the Alloy Worship Unit, and then everything else, and what MIGHT be the purpose of this "planet".* DISCLAIMER: I am not well versed into the lore of this game, and haven't played the first game either, only seen a bit of it, and it's "lore", so all of this is going to be "third party thoughts", from someone who may or may not have an idea on what's going on. I might be COMPLETELY wrong, but oh well, it was a cool idea. To be honest, I think that the numbers in the Alloy Worship Unit ARE years. Think about it. All the items that correspond to a specific year do, in fact, look like they'd be in that year. The Warbanner is something I could see being a thing in the 1800s, etc. Time travel does seem like a factor, so the Alloy Worship Unit and Solus Control Unit might end up being thrown through time. Here's what it seems like to me: I think that the Solus Control Unit and the Alloy Worship Unit are the same exact unit, but in different points in time, hear me out. In year 3134, at which time you could see something like a Solus Control Unit (SCU for short) being made, as it's superior technology, the SCU was en route home to Solus X. Which is either a planet, or something, that named SCU after it. Year later, the crew capacity was at 20 I assume, so humans were still a thing, but it seems like the SCU does operate on an AI system, and isn't controlled by humans normally, because of the way the Log was made. But from the following logs, it might seem like the SCU ended up somehow being lost in space (damaged maybe?), and within years, it's humans died. Then, year 3461 as it was going through space, it located HEAVY IRON presence on a planet, and was en route to it, because the AI probably assumed it can fix itself. (could be Risk of Rain planet) By year 3910, it's own Life Secretions were operational, meaning it was fixed, and was able to land onto the planet. A lot of years are passing, but the space is vast, and it's an AI that can survive a millenia, so I don't think it's an issue. 3911 it lands. By the year 4100, it recognized/scanned the local life and fauna, and started exterminating it. Year 4105, it's trying to find iron, maybe to fix itself, or improve itself, it's gaining higher conscience. Year later, it loses connection to the mother unit, and children units. It's alone, scared. Same year, it detects an anomaly in ocular paste, in the hull and gravity sheltering. Something is happening to it. It's probably combining with the iron on the planet, becoming...a Unit AI that Worships Alloys. After this, after the change, we go to the Alloy Worship Unit. Many years pass, now in 11000s. At first it says 0, probably until it reestablishes a link. 8 thousand years have passed for it to fully change, after all, it makes sense. It's a slow process of combining iron and alloy through a natural state, in a place where time seems a bit different, and there are many objects of different timelines somehow. It recognizes fauna. It's still not starting to realize what year it is, it has to calibrate, so it says Year 0 "They repair my hull", year 10401 "They repair my mind", year 10451 "They bring me iron", year 11201"They decorate me and I'm beautiful". It's more self aware, and it starts worshipping the alloy it's made of, and the fauna, the planet (?) that repaired it. Then shit gets real. Year 11320, it establishes a phrenic link of sorts with an unknown interface? Maybe the planet/fauna? Becomes more biological in nature? Year later, establishes inquires. Then 4 logs from that same year state: "YES I AM OUT-OF-ORBIT OPERATIVE" - probably indicating that it's now fully sentient, and operational outside of it's original orbit, away from it's creators; "YES THE MOTHER UNIT CAN BE REPAIRED" "YES I CAN PILOT THE MOTHER UNIT" "YES I LOVE YOU TOO" - gained emotions, it fully started worshipping. That's the end of both logs. Just from this, I feel like Risk of Rain "planet"/"place" is where all these creatures, items, etc. spanning from different years and millenia are gathered, lost. Lost to time as well. Hell, you have different types of the same creatures. Just look at Risk of Rain 1, you have Lemurians, but also an evolved form of said Lemurians, and the Alloy Vultures seem like a future version of those, creatures that, just like the SCU, combined with the alloy of the planet/place, and became a more evolved form. On top of that, in the games, you have: 1. Different maps that look insanely different from one another, and technology that is so vastly different on some of them, it's like "different timelines entirely". 2. Teleporter with which the Survivors pass through to go from one place to another. 3. Survivors themselves, all of which are vastly different, be it a commado looking dude, a high-tech huntress with tracking arrows, an engineer with high-tech turrets, a creature that spews poison, cyber-ninja, etc. 4. Enemies, all vastly different in their biology. Some seem older, like the bisons, they look like something from out time or so. Others seem like invaders (Imps). Others seem to be ancient, like wisps, and the Ancient Wisps, etc. Some seem to be from the future (Solus Control Unit and Alloy Worship Unit, Mechanical Spiders, etc.) So, I do think that the game is about a place lost in time, lost in space, where you have all of these survivors from different places (some from similar timelines) trying to survive, trying to maybe even find something? It's also presumed that Commando IS the one making the field notes himself. Some are still surviving, some have mutated (Enforcer), hell, even HAN-D thing states that it's "pulsating with new life", maybe like the SCU? And for the Engineer, it states "...and so he left, more steel and circuit than man." And for the Mercenary, maybe he was sent there, but the place changed him, as it states that he left, never to become "human" again. Maybe this place isn't JUST lost in time and space, but also there to advance other life forms, make them more metallic, make them become alloys, just how Lemurians became the Evolved Lemurians, and then Alloy Vultures couple of thousand of years into the future, and how the Solus Control Unit became the Alloy Worship Unit? And the other survivors are trying to escape that fate, running away from being claimed by the planet, going through portals, one after another, hoping someone would save them? Maybe Providence is another Alloy Worshipper of sorts, part "biological being", part "alloy". And when presumably the Contact Light stole a Teleporter from the planet, Providence massacred them. So by the time you get there, they are all gone. And Providence seemed to have the ability to "control" other life forms. Maybe those life forms were being changed into alloy variations slowly, and thus he was attaining control over them? Also would explain how Gilded (Golden alloy) versions of beings exist on the planet, like the Aurelionite, and Gilded Worms, etc. Eventually Commando killed Providence according to the story, but felt sorry in a way. I mean, he was just kinda defending his own planet. Idk, but this all seems super interesting. Would love to see Risk of Rain 2 getting more of a Story mode of sorts upon it's full release. Also, another alternate idea for the Solus Control Unit and such is that the numbers could just straight up be the amount of days? That's also a possibility. Would make the whole "time travel" thing less of a thing, but it would also make more sense in a different way.

@KingTaltia4 жыл бұрын
(P.S. Great video, just wanted to lore banter with some folks that seem to want the same, so forgive me) I personally believe that RoR2 probably is taking place in 2057, or even directly after RoR1. As many of the returning survivors are found in places that loosely correspond to their endings in Ror1. After all, Acrid wanted to be left alone, and you find him alone in a prison dimension. Although, you can presume that some level of rescue operation is being staged, as the Loader is a new person. (Loader in 1 was male, while in 2 they're female.) That or the Loader from 1 is deceased or no longer combat ready and just living in Rallypoint Delta or a similar location, and he left his gear to another person. (Or this is another of the Loaders for the Contact Light who had survived, after all Exosuits tend to need to be custom made to the person, especially given that the game seems to have sentient non-human species, such as the huntress.) Related, I think the Mercenary got into a fight with the Twisted Scavengers and the battle was so potent that it ripped the fabric of reality apart. Resulting in a moment, fractured, A moment, whole, and the bazaar between time. Though I'm not 100% sold on the last one. I just think that the Bazaar is the nearest point to the real world from the moment. And while I'm thinking of it, It's fun to realize/imagine that Acrid's Prison Realm is the landmass that was in the huge crater that Siren's Call is nesting on. As a lot of the debris there is from Siren's Call. Which occurred to me with the Artifacts update. I am kinda terrified though... Given the blasts that Jailor's make, A: What SIZE of a Jailor would've been able to jail that ENTIRE landmass?! B: WHAT WOULD THEY SICK THAT KIND OF JAILOR ON?! Is that what happened to Acrid? But the Alloy Vultures in Siren's call seem to have been nesting there for a while, meaning that landmass has been gone way longer than just a year. Transcendence is actually pretty self-explanitory, it's not about time travel, it's about LITERAL Ascendance, the writer of the logs is hoping no other survivor on the planet ever understands what they're talking about. As the character begins to understand they're in a video game.
