As Orthodox over time found that the Old Testament does actually refer to The Gathering numerous times. Its a hidden topic yet it is mentioned as also in the New Testament. It happens to celebrate the Heavenly Wedding and also an act of mercy from God to save His Saints from his wrath when that happens. All this is mentioned in the OT and also some Early Church Fathers like Irenaeus also mentions this.

I don't understand why Paul does not counter this idea by simply saying that the end of time has not come, therefore the parousia/resurrection cannot be past. If the parousia takes place at the end of time, this would be the obvious rebuttal.

because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10.9 Ask Jesus to forgive you and ask for Him to come into your heart. You will most definitely receive the gift of salvation. ❤️
@QuisutDeusmpc
@QuisutDeusmpc Жыл бұрын
@@rhoothlutz798 You are quoting St. Paul who was addressing a PROBLEM in the mixed Christian community (of Hebrew and Gentile) in the city of Rome. Whenever a problem exists, there is an IMBALANCE in people's understanding or practice of the faith. Too much weight has been given to one aspect, and so a kind of counter-balancing idea has to be brought to the forefront, PRECISELY BECAUSE it has been left out of the symphony of the faith, and so an imbalance or discordant note has been struck. St. Paul is addressing a problem at Romans 10, which was occurring in the community of the local church in Rome. But JESUS CHRIST is the FOUNDER of the Faith, not St. Paul. Precisely because he isn't merely another human prophet, like any other, but the Incarnate man-God, what He has to say on the matter carries more weight than an example of a problem St. Paul was addressing in a local church community in any given locale (whether it be in Rome, or Corinth, or Thessalonica). Don't get me wrong. It IS divinely inspired sacred Scripture, BUT it needs to be put into the larger context of the whole Christian enterprise, and given its proper place. By YOUR making Romans 10: 4 somehow the 'end all and be all' of the "Gospel", YOU YOURSELF are distorting its importance in the overall schema of the New Testament. Jesus Christ is UNIQUELY God in human flesh. And on the eve of His Ascension into heaven, entrusting the care of the Church into the hands of the Apostles, He gives them what the Church calls the "Great Commission", right? And what does JESUS CHRIST say about the nature of salvation? "[But] later, as the eleven were at table, he appeared to them and rebuked them for their unbelief and hardness of heart because they had not believed those who saw him after he had been raised. He said to them, “Go into the whole world and proclaim the gospel to every creature. WHOEVER BELIEVES AND IS BAPTIZED WILL BE SAVED;whoever does not believe will be condemned. These signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will drive out demons, they will speak new languages. They will pick up serpents [with their hands], and if they drink any deadly thing, it will not harm them. They will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.” The Gospel according to Mark 16: 14-18 Baptism is the sacrament (the visible sign) of one's interior faith. JUST AS there was an invisible and visible reality to Jesus Christ Himself (the invisible, supernatural God who created the universe united Himself to the visible aspect of a fully human nature (a rational soul and a fully human body), SO OUR SALVATION has BOTH an invisible aspect (faith, hope, love, grace, etc) AND a visible aspect (an outward sign: water in baptism, oil in confirmation, the exchange of vows in marriage, the laying on of hands in the admittance to holy orders, etc). We aren't simply, as humans, spiritual beings (in the sense of non-material, supernatural). We also aren't simply physical, material beings (the absence of a rational soul, or mind). We are COMPOSITE BEINGS (a fully rational, immaterial, invisible, spiritual soul ANIMATES (gives life to) our FULLY material, physical, natural bodies. PRECISELY BECAUSE we aren't simply supernatural or simply physical BUT BOTH spiritual AND material, GOD MEDIATES HIS SALVATION to us using BOTH a spiritual element (faith, hope, love, grace) AND a physical element (baptism with water, the imposition of oil in confirmation, auricular confession to another in Reconciliation, the public exchange of vows in marriage, the laying on of hands in ordination to holy orders), to give us SOMETHING FOR our spiritual aspect (our rational souls) AND something for our physical aspect to sense (corresponding to our physicality) as well. Faith and baptism are TWO SIDES OF ONE AND THE SAME coin of entering into the Christian life. We see it at the outself of Jesus Christ's own public ministry at His own baptism where He, the sinless victim, identifies with us, having become Incarnate as a man and submits to the public baptism of St. John the Baptist in order to sanctify the waters of baptism for us. You have the physical element of the water of the Jordan river (corresponding to Jesus's own human nature) AND the supernatural element of the descent and overshadowing of the Holy Spirit, sanctifying the humanity He assumed to Himself (the supernatural element of grace signified by the descent of the Holy Spirit, and then the voice from heaven proclaiming, "This is My Beloved Son in whom I am well pleased". This is what happens to us in our baptisms, because it is what happens to Jesus in His. There is a nexus of the natural and the supernatural that mediates grace to us: God's divine revelation, being born from above by grace, and our faith that effects our personal salvation.

What do you think of those who predict the imminence of end times? There are many alleged mystics and I get puzzled and anxious. I do not want to reject genuine prophets or mystics but neither do I want to get alarmed by scaremongers. Two examples are Luz de Maria and Michael Rodrigues.

Public revelation is binding on all Christians, but private revelation is binding only on those who receive it. The Catholic Church teaches that public revelation was completed, and therefore was concluded, with the death of the last apostle (Vatican II, Dei Verbum 4), but private revelation has continued. “Throughout the ages, there have been so-called ‘private’ revelations, some of which have been recognized by the authority of the Church. They do not belong, however, to the deposit of faith. It is not their role to improve or complete Christ’s definitive revelation, but to help live more fully by it in a certain period of history. Guided by the magisterium of the Church, the sensus fidelium [collective sense of the faithful] knows how to discern and welcome in these revelations whatever constitutes an authentic call of Christ or his saints to the Church. Christian faith cannot accept ‘revelations’ that claim to surpass or correct the revelation of which Christ is the fulfillment, as is the case in certain non-Christian religions and also in certain recent sects which base themselves on such ‘revelations’” (Catechism of the Catholic Church 67).

2:53 I think Paul later changed his mind. Check out Ephesians 2:6 "God raised us up with Christ and seated us with Him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus" and Colossians 2:12 "having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith in the powerful working of God, who raised him from the dead" and Romans 6:4 "We were therefore buried with Him through baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may walk in newness of life." *In other words, the resurrection in Christ hade most certainly taken place, they were already living the resurrected life in the glorified body of Christ*

His understanding of what happens at the Parousia is not correct. Jesus Parousia, meaning "presence" not just "coming", has happened in 1914 according to a specific prophecy in Daniel. That is the year the "Gentile Times" were completed and when the Last Days began. Satan and his demons were thrown down and confined to earth, Jesus' first act as King in his Kingdom was to cleanse the Heavens. (Rev.12:9) That is also when those anointed "brothers" of Jesus who had died were resurrected to Heaven. The account at 1 Thess. 4:15,16 is yet future, it is NOT a rapture, that refers to a remnant of the 144,000 still on earth during the tribulation being taken to Heaven. They will then ride with Jesus and the angels to wage war against God's enemies.
