Brother, on the monetization subject. Do you think the other guys/gals that make their full time income, or part time income feel guilty when they check their youtube accounts and see their income? My military buddy once told me any work is honorable work when taking care of yourself and your family. Make whatever you can brother, whether it's pennies, dollars, whatever. Just make it! Farm the drama, farm the Asmon drama, farm the Thor drama, farm whatever. People will still want to hear your take because we find it interesting. Congrats! And fwiw, you don't really have to change how you talk to keep videos ad friendly, it's more a matter of not doing it in excess or at "wrong spots" (i.e. no swearing in titles, the first 30 seconds of a video, thumbnails, etc; after all, DSP somehow manages to stay monetized). Some people greatly overdo it with replacement words, but as long as you just use common sense, avoid having certain words visible before someone clicks your video, and don't go on like 10 minute sweary rants, you'll be fine. As for ads, I don't really know the best way to approach that and it comes down to preference. Personally, I only have pre-roll and banner ads; I never use mid-roll because I don't want a viewer's experience to be disrupted, but that ultimately makes me far less money as those ads make far more (especially when a video is long). Not using licensed music especially sucks. Some tracks will do revenue sharing though (while others may take all the adrev or flat out block your video in some countries); that comes down to experimentation to find out which recording labels do it, but that's obviously not a fun thing to do. Video game music tends to be safe, Kevin MacLeod (Incompetech) has a HUGE library of royalty free music, and the occasional Indie/SoundCloud artist may have their music free to use; just comes down to research
