I had an epidural for my total knee replacement and when they came to remove the catheter I was horrified because I had no idea what the process was. For medical professionals it’s just a Tuesday but it’s a rare occasion for the rest of us and a heads up is the bare minimum

When I was on tube feeding. The surgeon took his sweet ass time removing the tube. Far better doing it quick

Yes just get that feeding tube out!

I made sure they were going to take mine out before I was actually awake from the anesthesia and I woke up saying "I have to pee, I have to pee" because of the feeling after it was removed. 😂

I pray to never have to experience this😂

Had a drainage tube in my lung after a surgery and when it was removed it felt like a big slug wandered under my skin. It was super weird but quickly over and the feeling was away.

Earlier in the year I got to experience having a catheter put in me for the first time as 20 year old woman. I had put myself through severe stress my body shut down and I was paralyzed. My grandparents called an ambulance and they put in an IV in because “all young people tend to be dehydrated”. Anyways when I got to the hospital I was on my period and the nurses had to pull my pants down (after they asked if I could get up and use the bathroom which I couldn’t move my body at all and didn’t have any urge to pee). Well the nurse put in a catheter three times before getting one of their head nurses in, and it finally worked. The weird part was the sensation of my bladder being sucked dry, but because the nurses kept taking out the catheter over and over again to get it to work it didn’t hurt that bad. but definitely not something I needed to know the feeling of when I’m only 20.

I removed my own catheter after absconding from hospital lmao. A couple of days after I got home and came to my senses I realised I’d have to figure out a way to remove that thang but I had no internet and couldn’t google how! I eventually figured it out and got a syringe pack from the chemist so I could deflate the balloon. Definitely a weird feeling but not as weird as trying to pull it out before realising there was a balloon in there that needed deflating! 🤦♀️

Well now that you've DIY-ed that 😅 wanna hear something a little shocking? Of course you do! A lot of elderly patients experiencing delirium or neurocognitive decline (like alzheimer's) will pull the Foley out themselves....without deflating it. 😅 it's horrifying.

When mine was removed it felt like my bladder was being ripped out of me slowly. I bled for days after too. I’m a female, so apparently that’s “normal” and I was being dramatic, soooo yay?

You know my Mom had surgery and she came home with a drain. The drain reminds me of those little barrel drinks called Little Hug for some reason. I mean it’s not exact but it’s pretty close. I’ve never seen a drain like that.

I’ve taken care of quite a few aggitated, demented patients over the years and seen multiple patients pull out their own foleys… they did not deflate the balloon first…😬

2 weeks, while caring for a newborn, 1yo, 4yo and 6yo. At the urologist my newborn was called “the bladder baby” because that is the path that he took. Uterine rupture 0/10 do not recommend.
