I love elephants with all my heart. Majestic, beautiful, intelligent and empathic creatures that are way too good for this world. My grandma loves elephants, and passed that on to me when I was very small. We have always had a special bond because of that. She is so passionate about them and I am so glad she taught me what she did about them, beginning a lifelong love of elephants. If anyone is interested, and has the means, consider symbolically adopting one through Sheldrick or the charity of your choice, but be sure you do your research. I got scammed once.

Tom... That interview with Alex Beard was very interesting. Wildlife preservation is a widespread movement we hear so much about, and many find would find it boring. Though what you apparently did here is personalize the topic, and evidently so has Alex. Was great to hear the more philosophical angle, e.g. how we are "carving pieces of ourselves" when wildlife is hunted for frivolous reasons; plus the bit about those marathon runners who raise funds in Kenya for families of rangers who got killed in line of duty. The discussion about that 160 y.o. (?!) guy living in a cave, where he said humankind has lost respect for itself and is now reaping the consequences sounds hauntingly accurate. I liked Alex's 3-part advice for people wanting to help ... Certainly piqued my interest in the topic. Do hope you get to visit Kenya in that context one day and change your life like he describes, and no doubt drink some whiskey in the process. Well done. :) P.S. Love the sunset hummingbird scene at the end.

oh shit! just got to the ivory part.. there are a few great jewelers who source ivory from natural-death elephants.. the most valuable actually, there are a couple of other kinds tho -from the Woolly Mammoth age (cheapest) and from the Mastodon age (10,000 to 11,000 years ago ~midland money) It's wonderful to carve art into/out of. Also carve in boar tusk, narwhal, jeez, any horn there is... ... I apprenticed as a jeweler for awhile. anyhow, I'm mostly an art historian and a novice philosopher meow.
