Wow I thought that Earthsea fandom doesn't exist or is very small... And yet this animatic is sooo complex and professional! Like those in huge fandoms! Good job :D

You commented this two years ago, but Ursula le Guin’s books are some of the most influential books of the last century. Every single modern fantasy and sci-fi story takes inspiration from her stories and ideas. Though it’s not very popular with the kids at the moment, her books have never been out of print and her work continues to influence story telling and probably will as long as these and similar genres exist. Everyone’s in the Earthsea fandom, even if they don’t know it 😂

The books ive read as a little boy 14 years ago and ive JUST discovered this precious little animation?! Honestly, the Tombs of Atuan is my absolute favourite Earthsea book of all and I gotta say, the video is only 4 and a half min long, but you did the book justice it deserves. I only wish it was longer.

Having finished Tombs of Atuan recently (in my first ever Earthsea read), this is AMAZING! You captured Tenar and Ged so beautifully, and summed up the vibe of the story in a really brief space, this is just wonderful stuff :D

I love everything about this! How Ged looks so kind, Tenar's joy when she sees the bird, and the way the lyrics are synced with their journey and mean so much. This was masterfully done.

It’s not fantasy animation unless a character cuts off their pony tail 😊. Honestly very well done and an effective way to show the transformation rebirth of the character. Lovely video I hope it’s gotten you work.

I just *love* all the details in this, and the way you made visual shorthand to represent entire plot points and concepts! The dagger as a symbol of her bond to the Nameless Ones and the dagger flip as like, her mastery over the Place and the labyrinth, the Nameless Ones visualized as shadows with grasping hands, the way Ged touches his scar when he's about to be overwhelmed by the shadows and how the scar looks a little *like* the shadows, drawing a link between the two, how Tenar gets a cut on her cheek and she and Ged will have matching scars from each of their struggles, Tenar cutting her hair to show she's returning to who she was before. Also, I love the visual of Ged just like, passing his palm over the ring to fix it, Tenar running and jumping with perfect confidence, the moment where Ged calls her name and she recognizes it again, the dragon at the end, everything! The expressions are so good, Ged is so *nice* which is correct, gah! So rarely do I see someone making creative editing choices about a thing I love and I agree with all of them, but thats what this is. Thank you for making this 💕💕

Just finished the Tombs of Atuan after I bought it yesterday lol. I feel deep inside the kind of joy and excitement and hunger that only sparks when I have discovered a new piece of fiction to fall in love with. And with that discovery comes its own unique kind of frustration as I realise that I have no one to share it with. No one I know in person or online who can revel in my awe of this book. This was amazing to find right after I put the book down, a momentary sharing. it is a beautiful video

I read the first Earthsea book a few years ago along with The Left Hand of Darkness but only this week read the novel this is based on. It’s a great retelling of it, and even greater in retrospect knowing the characters’ backstories and finally knowing about the shadows of the nameless ones as they try to influence Tenar and Ged in the undertomb.

@lyxthen3 жыл бұрын
Ok so, for people who want context: Arha is iniciated in this cult and she basically is the queen of an underground laberynth where light is not allowed. But then Sparrowhawk comes and he is this powerfull wizard and he shines a light there and Arha starts questioning everything she thinks she knows. And then Sparrowhawk gives her her original name back, Tenar, and names are like really important. This allows her to discover who she is amd helps Ged (Ged is the real name of the wizard) scape the laberynth. They also are bringing with them a really important item for Ged's people but thats not really that relevant in terms of character its more like lore.

The Tombs of Atuan is my least favourite of the books of Earthsea so far (I have only read up to Tehanu). Don't get me wrong, the story is great! But I found the atmosphere so... oppressive. Yet this animatic brings Tenar's bright spirit and feisty personality to life so vividly! And God, the economy of your storytelling! The details of the original tale peppered all throughout! Your visual representation of the Nameless Ones. I am so happy this work of art exists. It seeps love and passion. Thank you so very much for sharing it.
