29:02 Not to offend anyone, but the American revolution isn't really a significant moment for Britain, any more than other countries gaining independence. America records it as a great victory, which is understandable, as it's a very significant part of their history, but from the viewpoint of the British Empire, they were more concerned with other matters such as the Caribbean and spice trade, leaving reservists to deal with protecting the colonies. Militarily America wasn't a threat, but they had spent a lot of money and supplies claiming land and protecting the colonists in America from the French and Spanish, and it was becoming more of a drain to continue protecting them and trying to get compensation, especially when they were actively working against Britain, and France was using them to try and draw British troops from elsewhere, not to mention the British public was pretty split too, with many sympathising with America's cause. So instead of sacrificing more valuable territory to clamp down on a colony that at the time wasn't as valuable, Britain allowed America to sue for peace and cut their losses. There's no lasting bitterness, and I've never met a Brit with negative feelings towards America or other countries celebrating Independence Day. In reality, the people who cared most about the colonies were the politicians and businessmen who were making a lot of money from them, whereas the general British public wasn't really seeing any direct benefit other than pride, which was waning with the growing discontent with the "ruling class". We recognise it's long term historical significance, but in the grand scheme of things it was just an inevitable bump in the empires' path which would have happened eventually, and we ended up close allies, meaning we still benefitted from it in the long term. If anything, it's more that Americans expect us to care more than we do and be mad about it or something. I've even had online friends in America apologise to be for talking about their plans for Independence Day as if I would be offended by it lol.

It's because we lost. If you notice, British history books only cover wars we won. Any we lost don't get much of a mention.
@MrEsphoenix13 күн бұрын
It's covered with other countries gaining independence. The simple fact is that it's not a significant moment in Britain's history. At the time, we had bigger issues and more valuable territory to focus on, and public sentiment was pretty split with support for their cause anyway. America wasn't militarily a threat, and was costing us more money to protect than we were gaining. It was being held with reservists, and holding it would have required pulling forces from places like the Caribbean, which was why France was so supportive as they wanted us to pull forces from territory they wanted. In the end, it was just another country that we gave up claim over, who ended up being a close ally anyway, and didn't really have much effect on the Empire.

The Imperial War Museum was very heavy-handed. They had primarily Naz! Military equipment, one American and one British. And obviously these things matter, but i don’t buy that the Fallout UK would care about the Holocaust when they caused a few hundred Holocausts for the Countries they Colonized, and the Fallout World has every Country more Imperialist. So I very seriously doubt all they would be talking about in this more dystopian version of the UK is “Woe, the Jews.”

Ok jokes aside, one of the characters is voiced by the KZbinr known as “Squire” he’s known for making historical skits with some even being recorded in real tanks including Tiger 131 which is the last Tiger 1 tank from WWII that is still functioning. I recommend watching his channel for some good Laughs and some historical education. He likely gave the information for most of the historical note around the museum. Also the British museum have the most functional armored vehicles from WWII, with many from the UK, Italy, Germany, America, Japan, and even Russia.
