The irony of people trashing the tomorrowverse is that it was legitimately better than the universe it replaced that they loved so much. Even the animation is better and yet people can't seem to see it. The new 52 DCAU movie universe only had one good movie in Flashpoint and the rest were badly written poorly animated and the features the worst of all the Robins in Damian Wayne.

Honestly, I'm sad we'll never get a 'Dark Victory' sequel to the Long Halloween. It's a really good story and represents a sudden upward turn in Bruce's life. That's the thing with Batman's adoption of Robin. It's ridiculously important in Bruce's story ark because it marks the point where he starts to 'care' again. It takes a high-energy kid from the circus to show him what he 'should' be as opposed to what he is.
@milkiassamuel7807 сағат бұрын
Agreed. Dark Victory in my opinion is the most underrated Batman story and I had a hope's we'd get a sequel adapting this storyline. It would've made a great movie where we see Bruce develop his relationship with Dick Grayson and the origin of Robin which helps to allow Bruce to open himself up more with people and letting people in again after the loss of his parents and the downfall of Harvey Dent. Plus it also could've truly shown Gotham embrace this era of supervillains by showing Two Face lead the villains underground while also trying to uncover who the Hangman is.

Tomorrowverse felt like it was trying to not repeat the stuff that Dcamu did and tell a story around that or tell it differently. An origin for Superman, a Batman in his early days, a Justice Society movie, etc. Even the formation of the League is quite different and told much later. And because of that, as you said the changes can feel like leaps rather than baby steps of Dcamu because the universe assumes that you're already familiar with the characters due to previous projects or general knowledge.

I see a lot of people upset at how short the Tomorrowverse is, but I for one actually like its length. It's a very snappy series that doesn't waste your time or feature any pointless detours. Each of the 10 films build upon the same themes, and every major character gets at least one movie to shine. And just like the DCAMU, every arc and storyline is paid off in the finale.

Something I want to point out: The Question rejects this "new reality" that is made...does this make him now "beyond the world" on the same level as The Phantom? I legit forgot that Psycho Pirate was in Justice Society: WWII. I thought he just came out of nowhere in Crisis on Infinite Earths. That's really an overarching problem with this series. Things jump around so much, are so disconnected, & then small things from several movies ago become main plot points that I can't remember what I'm supposed to already know or not. And if anyone wants to say it's just my fault for my memory being bad, there are plenty of things that are legitimately never established. Kommandi's short ends with the idea that he's special because he's kind to his enemies; he represents Superman's values &, in fact, is supposed to find Superman, who is believed to still be alive after the apocalypse. Fast forward to Crisis, & Kommandi is now so consumed by PTSD that he attacks Monsieur Mallah on sight because he's just THAT distrustful of any talking animal, since they remind him of his enemies back home. WTF happened in the middle, there? Did he find that world's Superman or not? Is this a different Kommandi? If so, why didn't they show this one instead of the other version? It's hard to even keep track of who is from what universe because they mostly use the same designs. It's just constant whiplash. It's not that I hate all of the movies. Far from it. They all had some weird twists, but I enjoyed most of them. Even though I thought Crisis was too long, had a really dumb plot, & most of its payoffs were unsatisfying, I still enjoyed the characters. But that's part of the problem. I didn't get enough time with any of these worlds, & no, that's not in a "Wanting more is a good problem to have" kind of way. I mean it was hard to care about things because they just blew right past without any time to get me invested. Like when Hawkgirl & John get together during a montage. Cool reference to a popular aspect in the DCAU. But y'know why that was so popular? Because it took the time to flesh out those characters & show us every step of their relationship. In the Tomorrowverse, there's just the one movie, & then they're bit parts in Crisis. I WANT to like their John & Hawkgirl, even if they're not as good as the DCAU versions, but they just don't really get a chance. And they're far from the only example. Well, okay, I guess I cared enough in that I found the resolution extremely unfair to the characters, but I think that's just because it seems inherently messed up. So, everyone is cancer, & the only way to "save" them is to create a composite universe where the new characters are composed of "tiny pieces" of the old ones? No, actually, I don't think that's a happy ending. I think it's disturbingly bleak, maybe even worse than full-on nihilism because at least there's a kind of fairness in "the value of everyone is 0." Do recall that tons of universes were wiped out before they even made it to that point, & thus, are by definition not part of the "composite universe." Don't get me wrong, I get the meta commentary, but I think the old universe handled it better. It was basically "Circumstances force us to reset, but we're going to turn that into a point about how it's an opportunity to do something different; some decisions will be bad, some will even be the same mistakes, & we might just come back here again, but we're ending this version of the story on our own terms." I respect that a lot more than this wishy-washy "we caused a bunch of confusion by being incredibly inconsistent in how much we care about continuity, but hey, we did Crisis, & now the multiverse doesn't exist or something, except is this really going to be the singular canon from now on? Who knows or cares, but it's how Crisis ended, & we gotta do that, even if it was dumb &/or no longer makes sense in the current incarnation of DC."

Havent fully watched it yet, but I think the whole idea that Darkseid is a constant just makes me sad. Just what the hell Also the whole idea the Speed Force is Zero-Sum, where you can just nerf all speedsters by having more than one at a time. It just encourages speedsters to kill each other until there's only one guy who can access the whole speed force. And it doesn't even make sense either, because Barry could go back in time just fine even while Zoom existed, but Zoom had to die in flashpoint so that Barry can alter time yet again??

@AnonEcho98Сағат бұрын
I genuinely did not touch the tomorrowverse, because Apocalypse war was too depressive, and the Crisis only strengthened that decision, by making Darkseid some immutable pillar of existence, because what does that say, if not "Evil will always win", literally jacking off the personification of tyranny and evil. *EDIT to expand on things;* Like, yes, all the positive things you said about the meanings and all? That's still correct... but that whole "Darkseid _MUST_ exist for the universe to survive." does cast a dark, monstrous shadow on the whole verse, and personally? I don't like for worlds to go that dark. We've already got enough darkness IRL, so having some good, positive worlds just feels nice. Like, when things get too dark and in favor of the villains, it really saps the enjoyment from a media consumer angle, and it just pours in apathy, because if everything's gonna go tits up, why care?
