Hey Phillip, I'm an American living in Germany. I first heard of the Tonewood Amp a couple of years ago, but they weren't available here. The distribution system wasn't in place yet. I should have bought one when I was in the US in summer of 2017, but that was kind of the least thing on my mind at that time. Well I just bought a PRS se T60E Tonares acoustic electric at Christmas time. Great little GA body sized guitar btw. I finally said "it's time"!! I bought one and just freaking love it. Mine still has the overdrive in it. Haven't done the firmware update yet. I guess now I know what my day looks like today. But i can definitely see this as a Busker's number one tool for acoustic electric guitars. Normally you're sitting there by yourself or maybe one other person, with a guitar that doesnt have the sustain of an electric. But this little guy absolutely adds fullness to the sound and sustain if you have it turned up. The one thing I had trouble with originally was the feedback issues. It took me awhile to get the hang of master volume vs amp volume, but when I did... wow! Just absolutely WOW!! If you are interested in them, put on a set of headphones, and search youtube. Tonewood has a bunch of professional guitarists trying out the Tonewood Amp for the first time. It will defiantly open your eyes to something new and Inspiring!!! I pull out the acoustic more than the electric now. I need another X brace for my Takamine now!! Bob in Germany

It's not a bad idea to have one, it's just that because of the added weight and volume of the internal magnets, your guitar will sound somewhat deadened if you're not using it.

I did not read the instructions when i installed my Tonewood amp. I enjoyed the amp so much i left it on my guitar for a few months. The wood on the guitar's back has a 1 inch crack in it from taking off the amp. This is my fault for not reading the instructions. The amp is one of the best recent guitar inventions. I recommend the Tonewood amp whole heartedly. Just make sure to take it off when you are not using it. Thank you very much Phil for your wonderful work. Your integrity keeps me watching your channel. Although the product name is Tonewoodamp (it’s not really an amp, what it is - is an effects unit that vibrates the back of the acoustic guitar very much like that of a speaker cone with the sound coming out of the guitar sound hole). Will it make your guitar louder? Not really.. like I mentioned it is an acoustic guitar effects unit. You still need to plug to a PA unit or acoustic amp. The TWA makes the acoustic (electric) guitar more alive and lively.. if you own an acoustic guitar without onboard pickup, you can use a sound-hole (humbucker) pickup (I have Fishman Neo-D humbucker and Rare Earth Humbucker pickup. Once you try it on your acoustic, it just sounds dull without it.

Alaric Tin If you are going to plug your acoustic into an amp anyway and you have the effects already, how is this of any use? Am i missing something?
@K750Ric
@K750Ric 5 жыл бұрын
@@johncampo9111 , it is an effects unit (you get reverb, chorus, delays trem + delay, leslie, autowah).. I don't think people get the point of the TWA.. it let's players play something immediately without need to get effects pedals for acoustic guitar (onboard pickup or sound hole pickup required). As one of the TWA artist say.. it's an inspiration box. The TWA allows you the freedom to play anywhere with effects.. if you are able to test TWA on an acoustic electric guitar.. it sort of gives guitar more depth and liveliness.. just search KZbin for demos and other people give their opinion on it.
@marcuslgelite2

Alaric Tin, do you have to use the Fishman pick up if you do not have an electric acoustic, or is that only if you wish to play through an amp?
@K750Ric
@K750Ric 4 жыл бұрын
@@marcuslgelite2 , tonewoodamp needs an input source.. if your acoustic is not acoustic electric.. you will need to get a n acoustic soundhole pickup.. there are numerous brands, like Seymour Duncan, Dimarzio, Fishman, LR Baggs, K&K.. i just own Fishman.. its a preference.. I'm not connected with TWA, I am neither a spokesperson for them.. but just sharing little experience with anyone.. TWA will not make your guitar loud any louder than it is originally.. so don't expect it to be amplified.. if you want to play in large venue.. you can either mic 🎤 in front of the acoustic or plug it into a PA or acoustic amp.. Stay safe, if you need to go out.. wear mask cover nose and mouth.. wash hands and disinfect anything.
@marcuslgelite2

Alaric Tin Thank you, I have a guild nonelectric Acoustic that belong to my mom it is probably older than me. I had considered putting a fishman, or LR bags pick up in the guitar but I really do not want to have to drill any holes in it. I Was thinking the Tonewood amp might be a good solution, Tonewood does offer a package that comes with the Fishman neo pick up, if I understood you correctly I would need some type of pick up to make the tone wood work correctly. Is that correct?

I love mine! Thanks for letting us know about the firmware update since I didn't realize it was out. The primary downside is that with my Anthem SL pickup, I have to disable the internal microphone which with the SL is not as simple as just hitting a button. The unit will feedback if your guitar has an internal microphone mixed with the piezo. I have to remember to reenable the internal microphone for recording and/or where the best tone of the Athem pickup system is needed. This is a minor downside compared to the upside, however and I strongly recommend the product for anyone.
@davidarnold2676
@davidarnold2676 5 жыл бұрын
The SL is a tricky one for sure. Any bridge plate mounted Mic system will be too close in proximity to the TWA (in relation to the cone) to not create a feedback loop. I am testing a Seymour Duncan Mag Mic combo and am able to have the mic fully activated and just notch out the feedback. It's been a great alternative for a soundhole + Mic system.

Matthijs Bal, not sure what you meant.. this device is designed for acoustic guitars, it ‘vibrates’ the back of the acoustic guitar similar to a sound coil of a speaker vibrating the speaker cone... if you attach the TWA ‘Tonewood Amp’ to something solid and isn’t pliable or vibrates.. it will not work... dobro acoustic guitar or resonator guitar would work, but I’m not sure if a es335 Epiphone would work.. a thin line semi-hollow tele will not work since the hollow portion is for weight relief.

I wonder if this works with a curved-back guitar, or if that will come with a later model.

Peter Costello The documentation suggests that - as currently configured - it is NOT intended for a ‘curved back’ instrument. I bought it for my Taylor 522e and had hoped to get another magnet brace for my Taylor NS24e but the laminate back on that instrument is curved, so that idea is no longer in play. I’m interested to see that Phil has the device applied off-center. Unless I didn’t understand the directions, I was thinking the magnet was supposed to be centered, with a specific distance from the bottom of the instrument based on body type. Possibly the Breedlove bracing required some improv?

I tried the Yamaha Transacoustic after seeing the Tonewood amp over and over, but to my ears however it wasn’t that great. Every demo of the Tonewood amp I hear is amazing though and I really want to try it. It may simply be that all the guitars in the Tonewood demos I’ve heard are nicer than the Yamaha, so the end result comes out better.

That is generally the case. If you already have a killer acoustic, this is an excellent option. The Yamaha's are great too, but are certainly designed for players on a budget for the most part. Although I have played some killer Transacoustic guitars at my local shop.

We hear that quite a bit. The real plus is that you are not limited to 1 type of guitar like with thew Yamaha TA. The TWA also has more adjustable parameters than the TA so you can really boost the volume if you need.

I've had mine for about a year now and it's gotten to the point where I don't like playing my acoustic without it. The only downfall is it really sucks down the batteries.

Yeah, have a set of eneloops, my wife is a photographer. They are great but I still only get a couple of hours of playing time with them. It burns down the rechargeables faster than regular batteries but at least you don’t have to throw them away.

@@budlogan2682 Hey you should be getting more than a couple of hours with the Eneloops. (more like 7+) Try lowering the master gain on the TWA and using a bit higher pickup (preamp) volume. This shifts the signal balance and with a bit lower input, should get you some more battery life.
