It's definitely a tough decision to make. Building one can be kind of fun. But the price of one also adds up. Now I will say in mine I did use linear rails, etc. which aren't cheap. Thanks so much for watching Malakiaso! Really appreciate it!

Well crap... I wish I would have seen this video about 2 weeks ago. I went a different route using the linear rail method that is out there on KZbin. I really like how they incorporated the 5 inches of lift. Well done on the video. Looking forward to what ever you have next.

Thank you for the Saturday morning video, looks like a nice piece of equipment I could have used one earlier this summer, but I'm not sure if I will need/want/use one enough to warrant the investment. I've been meaning to say nice job on the weight loss. I went through "the big diet" 15 years ago and while it wasn't easy at the start it was worth it. It did keep getting easier as I gained more victories and hit more goals. Enjoy the weekend and keep up the good work.
@FlynndoggWoodwork2 ай бұрын
I know right. Router sleds are one of those tools that aren't used all the time. Nice to have, but I've used one only a handful of times. Thanks so much on the diet. I've lost a little of 50 lbs, and still trying to lose a few more. It's also the story of my life. I've lost over 80lbs probably 5 times in my life. I'd like to keep it off this time. I'm getting too old! :)

@@FlynndoggWoodwork I was almost 50 and a few happy meals north of 300. Diet and exercise got me to 170, obsessive running (marathon training) got me a couple pounds south of 150. Great job reviewing the tool, and sharing the issues you ran into while assembling it. Another fine video from Flynn Dogg! I wonder how it would do if it was hung on the wall. Pretty large foot print for a hobbyist that isn’t going to be flattening slabs all the time.

Seems like the wheels on the rails would ride up on any dust on the table...doesn't that affect flatness? Or do you just have to be meticulous about cleaning while using it? Seems like your design is much more precise in that regard.
@FlynndoggWoodwork2 ай бұрын
Very smart observation jlafoon. I absolutely should have said something about that in the video. Now when you are using the dust collection and get away from the sides, this isn't an issue, however when you are running the sled towards the edges, I made sure I cleaned off the plywood that the wheels rode on every time I made a pass. Great observation! Thanks for watching!

@FlynndoggWoodwork2 ай бұрын
OH man, you are soooo correct Noel. I totally should have shown that. What i can say is that it is much easier to store. I simply just put my plywood back in storage, and the rails and router plate came apart quite easily. Thanks so much for the comment and watching really appreciate it Noel!

Play the sled assembly part in reverse 😂😂😂
@noelflores89892 ай бұрын
@@Sly_Wolf_1 well I would hope that would not be the case. I assume that the whole carriage assembly just lifts off the plywood and stores in a small space. Reclaiming the router would have been nice with some sort of quick attachment, unless you want to dedicate a router just for the sled, I'm not keeping one of my festool routers in that sled. I would rather buy a dedicated router. As for the plywood base, returning it to a plywood scrap bin is an option but for smaller shops I would definitely try to use my out feed table as a base so the only thing you need to store would be the sliding jig part. I like the Spetool company. I use their router bits for my CNC.

Dogg, man, okay we bit on the click bait (although you know we watch all your stuff). Hey man, $Free.99 is the best price. However we all need to know that this sled is still over $350. Thanks for jumpstarting the push-up program by pimping the Woodpecker and Festool products. That is a beautiful piece of wood. You're right, you don't have any sense; especially since you tried it without dust collection at the beginning. Hey, are you going to flatten the bottom also? Is that slab joined? Good wrap up at the end explaining that the cost was about the same, minus your labor. Keep up the good work.
@FlynndoggWoodwork2 ай бұрын
:). Thanks as always for watching Meat! You know I'm always good for sliding in some festool and woodpeckers every now and then. I really like this slab as well. It's elm and I love the look of elm when it's finished. I did indeed flatten the bottom. I made a nasty mistake on the bottom about 6 months ago though on the sled that I built. The router bit slipped and really made some bad lines in the slab. For beautification purposes didn't want to show it but now that I think about it probably would have been better to show this tool cleaning up that side of the slab. Hope you have. a great weekend Meat!
