Interesting mix with many among my top 10. I so agree with you about Oppenheimer. I’ve seen it twice and once in IMAX (so glad I did). I, like you, place it among my all time favorites. Interestingly, I followed up reading American Prometheus, and I was even more impressed with how Nolan distilled the essence of this massive and important book

Damn I appreciate your consistency with these uploads, been meaning to improve on that for a while now myself haha. Really enjoyed the new Mission Impossible, definitely flew under people's radars with Barbenheimer pretty much dominating the summer lol. New Spiderverse was awesome too. Good list!
@Essential_Cinema9 ай бұрын
Thanks mate, trying to keep steadily uploading when I can to keep busy. It'll slow down for the next few months whilst I finish my uni degree! It's a shame Mission Impossible kinda bombed at the box office but they did it to themselves really for trying to compete alongside barbenheimer. I wish I enjoyed the spiderverse film but I felt so unsatisfied with it barely being an entire film, looking forward to part 2 though.
@JamesFullelove9 ай бұрын
Yeah I'm in a similar situation, going back to uni soon to finish second year film production believe it or not haha. It is a shame but it's cool that the MI films are still good this far in, I do agree with you that Fallout is the best! Let's hope they pull through with the third Spiderverse, might make the second one better in retrospect.

If you like motorsport you should really watch Gran Tourismo, the story was amazing and the camerawork of the racing scenes was also phenomenal. Also in the racing community it is generally seen as a close rival to one of the best racing movies of all time, Ford v Ferrari, and thats says a lot

@@Essential_Cinema its not hate. Sometimes İ like to watch Mission İmpossible, Fast and Furious, Transporter series also John Wick. But they are like video games, popcorn stuff just as Marvel movies. i have to disagree, i don’t think we should be devaluing art just because it doesn’t constitute as ‘high art’. is john wick really less of a film than past lives because it’s an action film? it’s fine to not like action or specific genre films but to disregard them entirely is something i won’t do.

I made it to the Killer as No.6. and had to give up but then tried again cos you sound intelligent. I know people who worked on Mission Impossible and they shot it here where i live and it's commonly discussed between friends what an absolute mess it is. Then you put John Wick as no.2 and Oppenheimer, Nolan's worst film (after Tenant) as no.1. All i can say is this channel is toxic. I love how KZbin is an even playing field for people and their opinions cos it means that many great minds will finally be heard (by some, at least) but this is an example of where it doesn't work so well. You can edit and put a video together. Coupled with your opinion on cinema, this looks to me like a child holding a gun. But at least you didn't mention Barbie. Every cloud......

So what exactly was wrong with my opinions other than the fact you don’t agree with them? Calling my channel toxic because I talked about the films I enjoyed seems strange.
8 ай бұрын
@@Essential_Cinema yeah toxic might be too far. I retract that. I think the list started out well and I was looking forward to some really interesting recommendations toward the end. But it just dissolved into the box office winners and I felt duped. I was expecting something more high-brow, I guess. That’s all. The joke is on me for sitting there watching. You’re entitled to make a list of whatever movies you like. Of course. And again, at least effing Barbie isn’t in the list!! So I suppose I should shut up.

@@dibdab101 So if PAST LIVES is “flawless”, it therefore ranks amongst the greatest films of all times, is that what I’m to take away from your comment?
@dibdab1018 ай бұрын
@@todesque there have been many utterly brilliant films over the years, but if I consider it to be the best of the year that puts it, for me at least, in the top tier. It just stayed with me more than any other films this year that's all. In some ways it reminded me of In The Mood For Love, and that is considered by quite a few people to be one of the very best films of the 21tst century so far. I did like other films too, don't get me wrong, but I found that one to be engrossing, and it stayed with me long after I'd seen it.
@todesque8 ай бұрын
@@dibdab101 Pretty wild, because I was about to ask you if you've seen IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE. Now that to me is a genuine masterpiece on every level, and contender for one of the greatest films of all time. I just can't see how PAST LIVES stacks up in any meaningful way artistically. I'm with film critic Josh Matthews (who I find very reliable) who said PAST LIVES is merely ''basic.'' (My wife barely remembered watching Past Lives the following day. It left us with no emotional residue, nothing to chew on, and absolutely no desire to revisit.)
@dibdab1018 ай бұрын
@@todesque funny how people are affected differently by movies. I was totally involved. I found it deep and completely honest, and I had genuine anticipation of how their emotional turmoil might, or not, resolve itself. Talking of critics, I'm with Mark Kermode on that one, who also had it as top of his list. And I'm with you on ITMFL. And though it's a different subject matter, it left me as heartbroken as Aftersun, my favourite film of last year.

Killers of the Flower Moon was a snoozefest. Good story, good acting, but delivered poorly by Scorcese, who makes sure to bore and tire us to death with unnecessarily long flicks.
