There are so many fantastic titles on this handheld. Some that are not available anywhere else. Limits? Never really felt like it had any. It could hold so many stories, experiences, and challenges. I can't thank you enough for making this list. The GBA is a very underrated console. I feel like nowadays, thanks to emulation of other systems like home consoles or arcade machines getting better, easier and more efficient, people often ignore the GBA in favour of emulating those systems. Even with official ports of GBA games on consoles like the 3DS, not every single game gets an official release/port, and there's dozens of games that will get overlooked simply because companies didn't give them an official release on modern hardware. Really nice video, I actually wrote down the names of all the games in this list that I didn't know about and I'm going to play them in the following days! :D

i plan to create my own game cases with which to house my collection, Nintendo for the longest time used shoddy cardboard boxes to house their games, which most peeps just ripped into and threw away, only once the Gamecube came out did it seem like Nintendo FINALLY learn their lesson and give us proper, DURABLE cases.

Still my favourite handheld games console of all time, it's basically a pocket sized SNES with both great ports from other systems and plenty of quality games of its own. You really should do a review of Mace: the Dark Age; I was going through 64 titles the other day trying to find a good fighter. You're absolutely right, Killer Instict Gold is utter pants, Mace though I'd be interested to hear what you think of that! Also a video just of you running around in your Top Hat Gaming Man costume chasing geese & smashing stuff would be epic, I'm f#cking howling every time you do one of those intros! Awesome channel & keep up the great work mate 😊
@stevesteve05214 жыл бұрын
Killer instinct is good, mace the dark age has decent gameplay and good graphics for its time but the controls aren’t the best. I’d recommend flying dragon and it’s sequel that was that only came out in Japan, they’re essentially like the n64 version of tekken or virtua but with more customizations and a story to it. Also Mortal Kombat trilogy and mortal kombat 4 are pretty solid on the n64 and there are also the 2 fighters destiny games also. If you want a game that plays similar to street fighter than Rakugakids is the game for you but I believe that only came out in Japan and probably Europe (I own the Japanese version). 2 fighting games I’ll avoid are dark rift and war gods although war gods does feel like a mortal kombat game, the gameplay is mediocre and the characters are bland and boring.
@RocketNothing4 жыл бұрын
@@stevesteve0521 OK I'll check them out, thanks! It's the graphics on Killer Instict Gold; the characters are rendered so badly its unbearable Imo. Mace is just like Soul Caliber, it plays just like Soul Caliber too; the flow is a bit choppy if you're just trying to string single moves together but when you get a handle on the combo system the game play becomes far more fluid & animated. I think it's supposed to be like that, just like Tekken it's steering you towards a more complex play style? The graphics & rendering just immediately jump out at me on Mace after blasting through 6 different fighting games back to back, something about the overall feel of it just kept me coming back for more. The character design concepts I thought were fantastic too, seemed to have aged very well.
@stevesteve05214 жыл бұрын
@@RocketNothing no problem. I liked mace the dark age at the time it came out but it’s one of those games I can’t really go back and place. There are better fighting games for the n64 in my opinion which are the ones I mentioned to you.

I 100% agree, the GBA game library is probably the best we have ever seen for any portable console! It has so so so many fantastic games for it! While it's 2D graphics capability was rather impressive, it's CPU was actually held back a bit by a low amount of included RAM. If they had just doubled the amount of system RAM, we could have seen even more impressive 2D performance from the machine, with even smoother sprite animations and such, and even more impressive 3D performance and textures.

Steel Empire/Empire of Steel also had a third port/release for the Nintendo 3DS/2DS. Also, the Black Bass games, as well as a lot of hentai games, were what Hot-B mostly produced. I do not mind the fishing games, as they are pretty good games as well, but when a company makes porn instead of actually investing more time in such an awesome game in Steel Empire/Empire of Steel, which, by the way, was so awesome that only two companies, namely, Capcom and Data East, made similar games, in the case of Data East, it was the equally underrated Boogie Wings, and, in the case of Capcom, it was the also criminally underrated Progear (though master touhou/bullet hell shooter Cave also helped in making this game as well). Seriously, all three licenses could have been the next Raiden, Darius, Gradius/Nemesis/Parodious/Omaterious, R-Type, 19XX, Strikers, or Aero Fighters/Sonic Wings franchise. Finally, Steel Empire/Empire of Steel actually takes place in the early Twentieth Century, a.k.a., the 1900s, and not the Nineteenth Century, a.k.a., the 1800s. Now as for my story about this game, I was also staying with a family that had a girl that was around my age and she happened to have a Sega Genesis/Mega Drive while my family was looking for a new home to live in for a brief time, so the house was pretty big and we were all sharing one roof...yeah, a girl who was 15 and a boy that was also 15, and said girl was also a gamer, and not bad looking...um, sadly, no, nothing happened between us in any way, other than a brief friendship, plus I did not like it when people smoked, as she was one, and she also had a steady boyfriend, so that, unfortunately kind of put the kibosh on any sort of romantic involvement, that, and an overprotective family, and lots of issues which would surface later on, not just in my own life, but also in the lives of other people that were in my life, but let us not dwell on those things, folks, okay? Also, back in the middle 1990s, there were places where you could rent games and one of the games that I rented was, yes, Steel Empire/Empire of Steel...oh, if they only had Darius II/Sagaia, though, then I would have been happy, but Steel Empire/Empire of Steel was also a good game and, yes, Acclaim, through another one of its subdivisions in Flying Edge, also helped Hot-B make the game. Finally, root beer, potato chips, homemade (well, sort of, anyway) pizza, and this game all equaled good times, and, yes, I beat the game as well.

No shortage of good games on the GBA. Virtually every genre of game that existed at the time is well represented on the system. For me Doom 1 and 2 on the GBA were a huge deal. Yeah they were a bit censored, because the publisher decided T-rated games would sell better, but it was a Doom on a handheld system. Same for Wolfenstein 3-D on GBA. It had no music, but having some of my favorite computer games of all time in portable form was awesome!

I agree one hundred percent. Especially doom 2 since that was the first home console port of the game at the time and it was a damn good one as well. Honestly the only flaw the gba had was the sound quality of some games especially the snes ports and also some of the games felt a little too pixelated but it is definitely my favorite handheld of all time and probably a top 3 console for me overall

Why is it that every time I try to dip my toes into the Pokemon universe, I get one of the bad ones? First Pokemon Ruby, and more recently Pokemon Sword for Switch. Just my luck, I suppose. I'm a little surprised that you chose King of Fighters Neowave over its sequel Howling Blood, which for my money plays better and feels more like its Neo-Geo counterpart. Disagreements aside, thanks for putting together this comprehensive list, which must have taken forever to compile.

nice list. Sonic advance 2 is so much better than 3 IMO. It's fast, as sonic is supposed to be, while still feeling like sonic. Sonic 3 punishes you for running fast every few seconds, it's extremly frustrating. Theres enemies and spikes at every turn

Well at no point do I mention they are listed in any particular order. Such a format would be too subjective to be worth people's time and would reduce the video to clickbait in my opinion.

Wasn't the DS superior to the Gameboy Advance? I've always felt that the DS library had a larger number of quality games, while the GBA was plagued with shovel-ware. This video helps me reconsider my perspective.
@stevesteve05214 жыл бұрын
The ds was fantastic and in some ways better than the gba but the gba has the charm of having a bunch of great snes ports, a more diverse library of games and what I consider one of the more disappointing parts of the ds, the gba has a bunch of great fighting games something the ds really didn’t take to time to get. I mean can you imagine how good something like street fighter alpha could’ve been on the ds instead of the gba? (For the record I know the ds had ultimate mortal kombat 3, a couple of bleach and dragon ball fighting games and jump ultimate stars which are all good fighting games but both tekken and street fighter and even another mortal kombat port could’ve and should’ve found its way on the Nintendo ds.)

Also while the DS(at least the original version) could play GBA titles, the GBA was backwards compatible with both previous versions of the Gameboy. Point is, if you own a GBA, you're never gonna run out of things to play. Ever.
@JoKoKilla4 жыл бұрын
@@SomeOrangeCat Good point. Yes the original DS and the DS lite were backwards compatible with the GBA. But with an R4 card, you can play all Gameboy and NES titles on the DS as well. You can also play 16bit consoles too, but I'm not happy with the emulation quality as not all Genesis games work, and the SNES emulator has sound and sprite rendering issues. I heard with a Flash card, you can play NES on the GBA.

@@stevesteve0521 I see what you mean. Yes, it's a total bummer about the DS and it's lack of great fighting games. SFAlpha on the DS would have been amazing, so that's certainly a lost opportunity. As for the SNES ports on GBA; it is cool considering it's portable, but I'd rather be playing the SNES versions of those games. Whats makes the DS satisfying (specifically the DS lite), is that I can play GBA games on a better screen. Also, like I mentioned to Andrew; with an R4 card, you can play all Gameboy and NES titles with decent emulation equality.

Contra III: The Alien Wars Advance would have been one of my top 10, but Konami messed it up; No bombs, too difficult, removal of the two top down levels, out of place Sega Genesis Contra: Hard Corps level, music is a huge downgrade, and I believe only one weapon at a time.
@stevesteve05214 жыл бұрын
I was disappointed with the game at the time especially because the Gameboy version had the bombs and the top down levels and you can have more than weapon so I didn’t understand why the gba version didn’t when that came out 8 years later with a much powerful hardware. After going back and playing the game last year for gba I actually liked it a lot and I’m some ways I kind of prefer it over the snes version because of the hardcorps levels

Definitely not Konami's finest outing on the GBA...their games based on the 2003 TMNT cartoon however. Now THAT was some quality Konami.
@NYCJoeBlack4 жыл бұрын
@@stevesteve0521 - I once read that the reason why those top down levels weren’t included was due to the Game Boy Advances small screen compared to playing on a television screen. Makes no sense, as you said, the Game Boy version included those top down levels. Believe me, I wanted to love the game as I was super excited that I could play a handheld version of one of my all-time favorite games, but those emissions and changes ruined the experience for me.
@NYCJoeBlack4 жыл бұрын
@@SomeOrangeCat - I can agree to that, however I wished they would hav ported the Arcade/Super Nintendo version of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles games to the GBA.
