That's 7 players that are already long established as top players, one that became a top player in 2021 and the two steve mains in 2022.

The main reason why despite his last few results, MkLeo is still at the top is that at this point, him finishing 4th is still shocking to people and seen as a negative result, which is something most players hopes to achieve, so his lowest, is most player's peak/goal. Sparg0 couldn't handle the pressure and took a break, he came back stronger than ever and I do believe he will be the top if he continues doing things as he has done lately, he will have to fight not only leo but also Tweek, who has been a force of nature lately, another player with more issues in the mental deparment than the actual skill, and has grown a ton this year, if he continues being solid, I can see the top 3 being those players in a very close fight. As for Japan, while I do think acola is really good, I also think that the meta's getting used to Steve's antics, so he will have to work really hard to stay at the top, specially in a region as competitive as Japan, there's a few players from that region that are extremely good and have yet to polish their game to the limit, like Yoshidora, however, those players also have adult lifes so I don't really expect anyone like that to take over the world, as remaining competitive takes a lot of time. I do think a lot of things will change in the rankings, despite the drama and issues we had last year, I do think the future of Ultimate is very bright.

acola is still dominating Japan right now tbf. He won Japan 24 and Umebura SP 9. Also just as an added correction, Sparg0 didn't get into a break because of Smash, but because he fell into depression due to causes outside of Smash. The pressure of trying to get the #1 spot wasn't the reason he went into hiatus.

I like the commentary here but it eludes the fact that if it weren't for Acola's 9th at Seibugeki, a tournament which was BO3 before top 8, he would've been #1 results wise for the year. While it's possible that he returns to form and continues to dominate, his 5th at Scuffed and now 4th at LMBM make it so that currently Acola, Sparg0 and Tweek are all challenging the throne. Genesis 9 is in a week, and all 4 of them are attending, making for a great storyline.

I don't want to be the first one that says it, but I'm a little confused about what some of these terms mean/how they work. Perhaps a small explanation of some aspects on-screen (like character percentages - how do so many individuals have more than 100% character usage?) would've gone a long way in making this just a small bit more useful for newer viewers to understand what we're looking at. It’s the percent of tournaments they used a character. They can play multiple characters per tournament. So their mains are usually used in 100% of tournaments they played, and secondaries will have usage in some matches in some tournaments

For instance, how would a new player know that method of measurement was "more intuitive"? The fact that I had to be told that by someone doesn't mean that it's inherently true, after all. I could be the only one confused about this kind of thing though, and in that case I suppose my comment could be ignored 😂 but I believe other casual viewers might be perplexed as well, on this aspect or another, so suggesting these individuals at OrionRank offer a more in-depth explanation to the visual elements we can see on the screen would do wonders for making these stats more readily understandable to new viewers.
