You should also try the Montreal Metro in Montreal, Canada. Their metros were designed by Parisian engineers so it uses rubber tyres. They have 2 types of trains: the MR-73, based on Paris 1967 trains, but they have an epic DC pulsing that produces 3 notes of music ! And they have the Azur trains, very modern and very posh, but still has a fast acceleration and full of epicness. They used to have another rolling stock: the MR-63, that was heavily based of Paris 1959 trains.

Great video! Warsaw Metro is quite epic. I used it on 2nd and 3rd October 2013. Its tickets are similar to those used in Paris, but one bonus is that they have one for 24 hours, very economical. Basel has limited cross-border service with line 3. It crosses the French border only during the day but up to 8 PM. BVB had found it necessary to limit this service, due to recent unfortunate incidents. In Milan during the late 1990s the Passante used to be quite as grotty and creepy as the Roma-Viterbo suburban line. They used very old trains until about 2000 or 2001. Copenhagen Metro is very convenient. They did not serve Hovedbanegarden (central rail station) in November 2002 when I visited. You can get a multi-day pass for the entire Copenhagen system, and never need to go through fare gates (there were no "fare gates" in November 2002 which I could have remembered, maybe the situation is different now) I think Porto is the first metro that I used a contactless fare card. I had one for three days, all I had to do, was touch the fare reader before going to the platform. Lisbon on the other hand has actual fare gates with contactless card readers. In November 2004 I rode the Lille Metro, both lines but not the tram lines R or T, though I had the opportunity to ride it. I was under a time crunch so could not take time to go find the correspondance. At that same timeframe I rode the Brussels metro. They had epic trains, some old, a few new. It is too bad regarding line 3, it could have been converted to full metro like lines 1 and 2. But Lemmonier station is such a challenge to remodel for full metro use, its Y shape kind of was a deal-breaker. Brussels uses magnetic fare cards, and I think Bucharest in Romania uses a similar style based on my visit in February 2006. February 2006 some time after I visited Bucharest, I also visited Budapest. My hotel at the time had a tram route that used former Hannover U Bahn trains converted to tram use, when I went to the spa at Szechenyi Furdo, further along with the epic Földalatti from Mexikoi út. October 2009 I rode the Kyiv metro very frequently. Fares were cheap at UAH 1.70 per token. I remember at some stations on the red line, they would play "Run" by Natalya Morozova. Arsenal'na has two escalator sections back to back to get from the street to the platform. Quite an engineering marvel in my opinion. My favorite systems - Munich and Frankfurt am Main, as I used to live in both cities at different times for temporary work assignments. With Nuremberg as an honorable mention as it is not as extensive as is Munich. Not too bad - Milan, Vienna, Prague, Lyon - especially the underground cog-rail line "C", Sevilla, Cologne/Bonn and Sofia. Istanbul has had much improvement, since my last visit February 2006 when I also visited Bucharest, Sofia and Budapest. Belgrade is slowly coming along but so far only has a suburban rail line as even remotely resembling a metro - I rode from Vukov Spomenik to the Prokop Centar station. Kind of "meh" for the former Yugoslav capital. NYC, Washington DC, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Boston are interesting. To me though, they are not quite as good as those in Europe. So those were my favorites.

Well, I know that Beno usually doesn't travel very far away from Europe, but, you would love the Sao Paulo Metro and CPTM (commuter trains). Not only is it clean, organized, they have a lot of different trains, lines, and lifts (there's even a funicular at Luz station!). Line 4 has driverless trains, some trains sound like the ones in London Underground (F and J fleets), and, the only disappointing part would be that the old trains, made in the 70s and 80s have been fully modernized. About CPTM, it has some very old trains, which have epic DC pulsing and even a Siemens "musical train" (3000 Series), and, as you like suburban trains, CPTM is a worth a visit! There's also Trolleybuses with epic VFs. Not to mention the tons of malls and old lifts in the city itself. If there's a chance - visit Sao Paulo. Awesome trains, elevators, attractions, and people!

Wonder where Munich would be on this list. We've got quite a variety here, U-Bahn (subway), S-Bahn (trains that connect the outskirts to the city), regional trains that go out even further, Trams and busses... There are a couple of really amazing U-Bahn stations, and all generations of trains since the opening in the early 70s are still in service. The S-Bahn trains sound amazing when accelerating, and recently a lot of trains from the generation that ran here in the 70s to the 90s has been brought back from other cities as the current ones are slowly being modernised. The regional trains are epic, everything from old DB 628s to double decker trains, as well as the world's only 17 Integral S5D95 trains which I just absolutely love (will be gone by mid 2020 though!). Trams are also incredible, various generations and models since the 1990s are still in service, as well as two trains from the 1950 which are still in regular service during the summer months. And well, in terms of busses it's the usual Mercedes, MAN, Solaris, but we also have some cool new Ebusco electric busses. All in all, I'd love to see a cheap(ish) flight adventure to Munich one day 😅

I suggest you should visit Milan: 1) Trams: It has one of the largest tram networks in the world, a HUGE variety of models (including the 1928 Peter Witt trams) and overall great sightseeing (even better than tour buses imo) 2) Metro: Very extended network (at least for Italian standards), an alright train variety, awesome suburban above-ground sections on the M2 line where trains go flat out and the ever more impressive driverless M5 line (with AnsaldoBreda trains). It even has an APM shuttle at he Cascina Gobba station that connects it to the San Raffaele hospital. 3) Trolleybuses: it has 4 routes (circular 90/91 routes, route 92 and route 93) and a very interesting variety (for now) of trolleybuses. You can catch every model only during workdays (Mon-Fri) and you must have a lot of luck, because of the unpredictability of the timetables they're given (the best time for a trolleybus hunt is during the afternoon-evening rush-hour). 4) Buses: as much as I get a little bored with them they have an alright variety (CityClass/CityClass Cursor, Citelis, Urbanway 12M Euro 6/Hybrid, Urbino III 12 Euro 6, Citaro G Facelift and Urbanway 18M Hybrid). There is also a quantity of experimental buses (only units or small batches) such as the Lion's City Hybrid, Van Hool A330 Hybrid, Citaro G Facelift Hybrid, Citaro Facelift Hydrogen. There's also a discrete quantity of electric buses, which continue to be delivered (mainly Urbino Electric IV 12, with different fronts and led displays. There's also one BYD K9B, bought experimentally in 2013, that occasionally goes out to serve a couple of routes, usually 88). I'll leave the link of an Italian bus spotting page, with all the necessary information about any vehicle: www.tplitalia.it/ATMmilano/ATMmilano.htm

You should really go to Charleroi, Belgium. Imagine the grottiness of Brussels Metro combined with the same old DC pulsing narrow gauge trams as the Coastal Tram (but with doors on both sides). You should really try it ! And there is a whole ghost section on a viaduct ! Urbexing there is possible (but don't get caught because it's still trespassing) as the fences have been cut at some places by urbexers. Also the city of Charleroi itself is very grotty outside of the city centre. But you have to go there quick because they're going to modernise the old trams. And since Alstom is in charge, they will probably put Citadis VF drives in them to replace the old epic DC pulsing. Also Charleroi has an airport with short and mid haul flights including Ryanair so it will not be very expensive to go there.

Your best video yet! In this context Kiev looks the most interesting to me, and now I can't decide if I should return to Naples or try Kiev first. When the Washington Metro was younger it was probably the best, but it has changed a lot. I have a soft spot for Stockholm, and Munich subways. Philadelphia you would like since it has a good bit of funkiness, variety and extent. Make that your first stop in USA in future. Their new commuter trains have a railfan seat, while most USA and Canada places have gone to full width cabs, usually without even a window. New York was ruined by slower speeds, bland new cars and shit service with almost all the funk and oldness stripped away. I posted a channel trailer showing lots of places in just three minutes.

I have been in Paris, Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Copenhagen. The Copenhagen one is very new and modern. I didn’t know these trains where built by Ansaldo Breda eventhough I knew they built trains for Denmark. I am quite suprised that they actually run as Ansaldo Bredea has a bit of reputation in building trains that break down all the time. The Belgium and Dutch railways learned this the hard way with their joint highspeed rail project called “Fyra”. The trains where not true highspeed but more or less glorified intercity trains built by Ansaldo Breda. The first few trains that where delivered had so many issues that they cancelled subsequent orders and even returned the trains to Ansaldo and the project failed hard. It became quite a legal battle between Ansaldo Breda and the two railway comapnies. Heard that Ansaldo had issues in Denmark as well as in Miami and many other places they built trains for.

You should ride Lyon metro, it has some character, especially the 1975 DC pulsed rubber-tyred trains! There's also an automated line, and the only rack railway used in a metro in the world! Yerevan (Armenia) metro is also quite epic: there's a single line from 1980, but it's very grotty and nacked, but the system is very efficient, trains go super fast, and even if the main trains have been upgraded, they still sound amazing. The worst systems I've been on are Barcelona Metro, the trains are very slow, take a lot of time to start and stop; and Rio de Janeiro metro, for the same reasons.

I haven't really traveled around the world enough to judge the Metro systems but I have been on a few. I went on the train from Fuengirola to Malaga which were really nice trains but lacked character as they were quite new (at the time, I expect they have aged now!). I also used the metro system in Porto and the train from Porto to Espinho. What's interesting is the stark contrast between the very new tram lines in Porto itself and the clunky old trains leading out of Porto to the rest of Portugal! That's not to say the trains are bad, they were very clean and mostly reliable although they turned up seemingly at random as finding timetables (accurate ones...) was nigh on impossible! Of course, my favourite is the London underground! When I was young I remember going on a really old Northern line train and finding it fascinating!

I love the London Underground, but wouldn't choose it as number one. IMO that goes for Tokyo. The only place in the world, where a suburban railway line / metro line doesn't really end as all the others, you know... at the end of the lines. They build connections between lines, creating extreme long lines. One great example: There is a train every 10-15 mins that starts at suburban Tokyo (Seibu Ikebukuro line), then when it reaches the more dense area - and at the same time, a metro line, the Fukutoshin Line, it goes underground, travelling through almost the entire line, then it continues to Yokohama through the Tokyu suburban railway line, and when it reaches Yokohama (which is Japan's second biggest city!), it also goes through a metro line there, the Minato Mirai Line. But this is just an example. The city has 13 metro lines, operated by 2 separate companies, but 11 has through trains to suburban railways. And I didn't even mention the monorails (Tokyo Monorail and Tama Monorail, or there is the Chiba Monorail or the Shonan Monorail quite close), the Yurikamome, trams, the Shinkansen... it's literally THE train / public transport paradise.

Boston has a good variety of trains but the green line is kinda slow. Philadelpia is similar but the system is much smaller. I agree with everything said so far about NYC. Washington metro is boring but I love the station architecture. San Francisco BART is very fast and has semi-automatic operation. I haven't ridden the Chicago L yet but it looks neat from what I've seen online.

I personally like the Amsterdam Metro and Tram System. But you need to see the Nuremberg U-Bahn. 3 lines, 2 of them fully automatic without driver and without platform doors. This was the world's first conversion from conventional to AGT without service interruption. Because driverless trains could run together with driver operated trains on the same line for the conversion period. Plus we have a tram and suburban rail system here in Nürnberg.

Interesting list. I would argue some of them don't qualify as "metro" systems, but hey - you like them that's all that matters. For me personally, in no particular order: - Stockholm - cut through rock, really cool stations, clean, has some old trains as well, + several other interesting rail networks and trams - Berlin - is pretty cool system with interesting stations, old trains, S-Bahn and trams - London - Tube and my favourite - the DLR - Barcelona - just really neat system, quite large, + trams and regional trains, narrow gauge railways. Pretty cool options to explore - NYC - dirty, grimy, crowded, gets you around, but strangely charming and endearing - Moscow - built as "palaces for the people" and second as nuclear fallout shelters, it is quite fascinating system full of impressive propaganda architecture, mix of old Soviet and sleek modern.
