As a beginner, I really appreciate that you added the 3 worst. It definitely helps with giving me a better understanding.

Randy is so right about how fast time goes. Get ready for the years to pass like months kids. Don't waste time.

You are 100% spot on with that and I could not agree more because 20 years passes by in a flash 👍🏻

I like your squarebills tips. I use very large topwater lures in August with success.

I caught my biggest bass on a 3/4oz. Spinnerbait identical to the one you showed. But funny thing is it's literally the only fish and bite I could get on it since. This time of year anyway.

Here in AZ a lizard/brush hog works great in August, especially at Bartlett Lake. But that’s relative to AZ which is usually tough as it gets. We have legit giants, 15-20lbs in a few different lakes but AZ can be rough. Better fishermen than me have told me if you can catch them here then everywhere else is easy. It definitely holds true

The lake I fish the most has 2 rivers that feed it, Cochiti Lake NM. I do notice a big slow down in late summer, but still catch one or two a day on dark sleepers and sleeper gill but late in the day. The Kinchou minnow has caught me a couple pike this month.

Tail spinners (i.e Little George), walking frogs and weedless 3/4 oz.Johnson silver spoon (sharpen that hook!) ripped through weed beds are my "go to" Aug. lures, NEVER skunked!

Randy do you think fishing grass lakes keeps the bass more active during aug-sept due to the oxygen the vegetation produces? I have noticed this to be true bc the bass can still find oxygen and shade esp around mats and lilly pads whereas bodies of water without grass tend to go dead due to all the bass being deeper and suspending above the thermocline. Would love to hear your thoughts on this.

Hey Randy. Thanks for all this excellent information. Do you find August to be the hardest month when it comes to getting bites?

Yeah by the time august comes, you cant hardly catch fish on deep cranks anymore for a few reasons 1- theyve been beat up offshore since spring 2- in heat of summer, the O2 levels in deep water drop significantly unless you get some kind of flooding or heavy rains 3- thermocline which goes hand in hand with the o2 level being poor I think a lot of offshore fish start to come back shallow late in year with 84+ water temps. Finding shade lines and cold water inputs is key for me. A lot of the schools that were 20ft+ deep a month ago split up and sometimes you can find mini schools in like 12ft -15ft, but it seems to me any fish deeper than that are so lethargic, they wont chase and certainly wont feed.

August is when the thermacline is heaviest, If you fish deeper than 10 ft you are under the fish. Lizzards don't go in water when it's hot, they stay underground or under rocks on shore. Joe

Well, depends on your individual type of venue. In my lake the thermocline is at 20 ft.

Randy this is simply not true, Ive got a fully decked out jon boat with spotlock, livescope, side imaging. The electronics were around 4k. You can buy and rig a fully topped out kayak with everything for around 10k. Those younger anglers could fish kayak tournaments if they wanted to. No one needs a 100k bass boat.
