Like Suicide is a masterpiece from Cameron. Subtle, snakey snares-off tom groove, picking it up to a half time ride part in the middle and then driving the back end of the song with that monster ride bell groove. The whole album is great but it's a brilliant ending. So many great drum parts on that record.

I've always thought the way Matt combines the hi-tom and snare in succession in My Wave is so tasteful. Also the breakdown in Black Hole Sun is hella cool. The chorus in She Likes Surprises is also something I've wanted to learn but haven't got around to yet. Just one of the most tasteful rock drummers out there.

Ahh Spoonman. That one song may be responsible for getting me into drums. I was playing rock band and came across it and was blown away at how much it stood out from all the other tracks, and how it was _way_ more fun to play than everything else. I also got the DLC and found Pretty Noose stuck out the same way. My brother had a generic electronic kit at the time, and I started tapping away to various songs on it. Eventually on March 7th of 2010, I made a spur-of-the-moment purchase of a drum set and haven't looked back since. I always really dug the way Matt would play odd time in a way that sounded good but would also trip you up; it made figuring it out very satisfying.

@@luckylayne: yes he’s an absolutely brilliant (studio) drummer. I say it like that since I’ve seen him totally butcher songs live with SP through constant soloing - and that is saying a lot being a drummer myself 😅😬😂 Don’t know why he behaved like that. Totally obstinate by boredom of touring, or maybe escapism to not crave drugs. I don’t know. But sad to witness a brilliant drummer ruin shows with his brilliance 😳😂

Between Cornell's vocals, crazy guitar tunings, and Cameron's drumming SG is probably the hardest band to do covers of IMO. I think of Matt Cameron as the closest thing to Neil Peart we've had; each song has constructed, *unique* beats, unique parts. I wish he'd do some fusion/rock projects.

Damn dude you just made me remember one of those awkward high school moments from 25 years ago, there was a band competition with local groups, we chose Spoonman and i believe that the drummer from another band, who had generously offered to bring his kit to the competition for us all to use, deliberately only packed his kick snare and hi hats, NO F@CKING TOMS.. drummers nightmare, but against all odds, i pounded away on on the kick drum and we came in at 4th place, out of the 4 bands competing...some lessons learned that day.

Matt is the reason I started playing the drums and through whom I then discovered Bonham, Mitch Mitchell, Steely Dan, Copeland, Elvin Jones and Gadd. You can hear a bit of everything in his playing. What strikes me about the drum part in the "Head Down" intro/guitar refrain thing is how voice-like it is: you could probably draw a line from it to some of the shouty, half-rapped hype-man-ish vocal bits from the nu-metal/post-grunge era ("I'VE BEEN LIVIN' A LIEEEEEE" etc. etc.)

Awesome video as always, just one thing.. jesus I'm triggered by your strokes. I know Matt isn't playing a standard rock beat, but the way you hit the drums is so shallow, it removes the authority of beats. Try hitting more like Bonzo and less like JoJo Mayer.
