I can partially understand where that idea comes from. Like people think how they would feel in a crate is how dogs feel. When the reality is that crate often is a safe haven for dogs to feel secure.

It all depends on how long you keep your dog in the crate, and the dog's association with it. You need to make it a fun place to be for the dog, and make sure you're not keeping it in the crate for extraordinary lengths of time.

I disagree a crate can be a good place for your dog to take a break from people if you make it a safe place. I have a big family when we get together my dogs would go yo thier crates when they had enough of playing with the kids, o no doors on the crates when they were in the crates no one was allowed to bother them

I’m an EXTREMELY forgetful and tired person, even back when I was a kid. Whenever my parents were out and I had to dogsit though?? I would wake up at the crack of dawn, take the pups out to go to the bathroom and play, then give them a morning meal. It’s literally nothing to me (it’s actually very fun and engaging being with dogs even for menial chores imho), and afterwards I literally go back to sleep or play games with the pups all satisfied and laying down next to me. I’ve even done it more recently since my family dog unfortunately passed away last year and yep, still more responsible as a human being when there are dogs to care for. They’re living beings like us, you HAVE to provide for them.

My dad isn’t a huge fan of dogs, but he always leaves the lamp on at night for our dog, he always checks that I’ve fed her and gave her fresh water and he always makes sure she’s been outside for a walk. He works a 10 hour day, 6 days a week but still has time for our dog, so the family of snooki have absolutely no excuse for their behaviour.

katphish30 Yeah in cases like the ones in the show it is the owner. Some dogs can’t be saved through training reliably though, because of past trauma and other things. Feral dogs are because of neglect or no contact with humans whatsoever and to a point cannot be trained.

Snooki's story was so frustrating, that family is so dysfunctional and the husband was demonized quite a lot but I think the main problem was the wife, the husband had his concerns about no one being home for a dog and not having time for one, all legitimate concerns and honestly it's why i won't get a dog right now. But she went and got the dog anyways?! What an awful partner she was in this marriage, it's his house too, he didn't want the dog and feels bad for the dog for having to live in that chaotic household and now she complains about no one helping with the dog and no one training her, when she was the one who got the dog without anyone else's input? Ugh, I hope that dog is doing better now.

She was on par with how the dog was being neglected by the rest of the family members and how it is supposed to be a shared responsibility. But yes, backfired as she didn't listen to anyone else about not wanting a dog and seeing how their lifestyle is, is not ideal for a dog, nevermind a puppy of a breed who is normally hyper-active and needing tons of stimulation not only as a dog but as a working dog. I was more frustrated with the dad's treatment of her, his idea of how dogs should be kept -- that should've been a red sign that she's much better off in a different home with a much more loving family than "oh just chain it up like it's supposed to be." Annoyingly enough resisting over animal control taking the dog but in the beginning he was commenting on how he didn't want her, how he wanted to get rid of her, etc. It was really hard to pick up on Joey's aspiration to train her aside from him being the lone and first person to do much of the work in getting her into the rescue training and really wanting her to strive for that particular goal and career, it may just be his voice sounding horribly deadpan leaving that impression. Despite getting the dog, she doesn't really seem to be all that included in training her in the end ( notably when she was on her phone during the "find it" command ), it was more of Joey being invested in training her. All everyone else did was play with her or feed her, as you'd see the mother doing.

Most of the entire series is that the dogs usually aren't badly behaved, it's the people that don't do anything. Peanut deserves to be here because he suffered the most from "small dog syndrome" out of any others on the show recently. Which that's a very common issue lately. Just because a dog isn't aggressive or destructive doesn't mean they can't be the worst behaved.

I really want to see an update on Snooki. I hope the young lad stuck with her training for rescue classes. A woman nearby has a big dog that has bitten our Labrador on the head. And this woman, in reaction to the dog aggressively growling at other dogs (not playing) is "oh he's fine, don't worry" !!! Not on a lead or anything, he's dangerous!

Separation anxiety is not something to mess around with. My parents had to leave my old dog in the backyard whenever they left(he had a nice shaded spot and plenty of water) and every time they came back there’d be deep holes in the backyard. They left him inside one time and he tore the couch apart. It took him three years to get over it, to eventually calm down because he realized eventually that they’d come home. He was the picture perfect dog otherwise; could be let off the leash whenever, never so much as barked at people, and even let a young me pull on his stomach hairs(I was young okay) and only whine and snap at me once. He really was the perfect dog; he just had separation anxiety.

I think it's silly that in the one with Snooki, the husband raised real concerns about not having time to take care of a dog, but the wife just went ahead and got Snooki anyways. My husband and I both want a dog, but we've got our first baby on the way and live in a tiny appartment, plus he's still working on his degree, and we know we can't afford/don't have time to take care of a dog at this stage in our life together. So instead of just jumping in and getting a dog, we're going to wait until our family is in a position to give it a good, healthy life. Cuz if you know your family isn't in a position to have a dog, your family shouldn't have a dog. Simple as.

There's an episode of 'Dogs Behaving Badly' where a woman has a 7 month old great Dane, didn't expect her to get big, and the dog was completely out of control. Then when the trainer comes in and basically just says 'have you tried saying no' and it works the tiniest bit, she immediately gets ANOTHER great Dane puppy. It was the most frustrating 'and here's where this person is 3 weeks later' card I've ever seen.

With Scooby, I knew it was anxiety instantly. I have a cat with severe anxiety issues. Been like that since I got her. She's a year and a half now. Had her for about a year. She does not like being left alone. We have three other cats and plenty of toys to keep her company, but she wants me. She wants her mama. She's a little sweetheart, but if you put her in a room alone, she'll freak out. She'll tear the room apart. Poor Scooby. It's separation anxiety. He was likely abandoned at the shelter he was gotten from and now he's afraid they'll never come home whenever they leave. Her training was perfect. Basically, it reassured Scooby that, they weren't leaving and never coming home. They weren't gonna abandon him. I did the exact same thing with my anxious cat. She's still very anxious, but she won't rip things apart anymore and she doesn't cry so much, so long as she isn't locked in a small room alone. If the other cats are around, and I'm not, then she'll be fine. Little worried and upset, but otherwise fine.

I appreciate the fact that Victoria, at the outset of the show, is explaining the character of the dogs to the owner. In that way, owners will ome to realize the advantages and disadvantages of having a pet dog in their house and the positive attitude the owners should and must do in order to establish a more calm relationship with their pets...of course without harming anybody in the house. 😉

Victoria’s training takes time, effort, and education. Other “trainers” don’t like this as they just want to collect the commission quickly, sell a product and go to the next sucker. You’ll notice Victoria doesn’t sell products.

They might have taken Scoobie to the emergency vet for the lacerations, but I would have thought their regular vet would have taken out the sutures and had some sort of discussion after the second incident....

Watching these videos have helped me train my PTSD dog that I adopted from the Yulin Chinese dog meat market. A lot of the behaviors you see the humans do to the dogs they couldn’t do the same things with human children otherwise they would be arrested.

I have adopted a stray from China. It was so heart breaking to see a dog that was so timid that curls into a ball when approached and has no idea what a dog toy is. It took me a long time and numerous doggie daycare visits to get her to realize she is a family member and she has a safe home and routine.
