You can give some treats and feeding him 2 or even 3 times by day if you prefer. But you have to calculate everything specially for an Overweight dog. This said, I’m pretty sure most people feeds their dogs once a day. 😅

I started out liking Hattie’s family and angry at Gizmo’s owner and then completely switched by the end! You can tell Gizmos owner really loves him and was just very ignorant and showing that love in COMPLETELY the wrong way. Once she was given a wake up call and the tools to do better, she really put her heart into it. The scenes of them both on the treadmill side by side and her cheering for him made me so happy!!

You know I have to give credit to Gizmo's mom; I have a lot of respect for how she handled herself as an owner. That woman didn't need to be told twice when told her dog had a problem by a professional, and she dedicated herself to fixing it the first time. She learned to love that dog the way he needed to be loved to have him around as long as possible. THAT is what a responsible owner looks like. Same thing happened with my family when I was 5. School started, everyone was bragging about their dogs, so of course I begged my mum for one. I think he only ended up going to one training session in the 2 1/2 years we had him. Kept and slept in the same room the whole time because we had cats in the rest of the house. Thankfully, we had to move to a new house that didn't allow dogs, and he went to live with someone who gave him a much better life while he was still relatively young. I don't know if it's just a thing with single parents, especially since we don't know the circumstances surrounding this specific family, but I think its an attempt to make a 'proper family structure'. 2.5 kids and a pet, you know? Regardless of if they can actually take care of the pet.

I was so happy for Gizmo's progress. I have a softspot for chihuahuas. Hattie's second weigh in beside the others was so sad. And Jessie's relapse was too. Watching owners let their dogs become obese breaks my heart. I've been obese or overweight a large part of my life but I never let my pets see the same fate. Every time my Luna saw the vet before her sickness she was a perfect weight. She just ate her "balanced diet" kibble with the occasional unseasoned/uncured meat treat or veggie and she was happy.

Being the older daughter who owned Hattie. My mum loved and cared for her. She lived until she was 18 years old and my mum flew her across the world and rescued an already very overweight Hattie from a puppy farm. Hattie lost loads of weight.

It's sad but I think the older lady feeds the dachshund because it makes her feel better about her own weight. My mum feeds our dog snacks. She can’t eat until other people have eaten at meal times. It was always emphasised to her growing up that a mother shouldn’t eat until they know their family is fed. This attitude has been unhealthy at other times too, but I think that’s part of why my mum, who is probably around the same age as this woman, can’t stand to have snacks while the dog is right there waiting and wanting food. It’s not so bad with my family dog because she’s old and lost a lot of senses, so having some extra biscuits is probably adding to her quality of life and she’s already lived beyond the life expectancy of her breed. She definitely ate better when she was younger, and I think my mum finds it harder to say no to the visibly elderly dog who these days just loves to be wherever she is. So I think the woman in the video might feel as if though it’s crueler not to feed the dog. It might feel like it’s unethical to eat food without offering some to the dog that’s nearly always by her side, even if she logically understands the more ethical thing to do is to not feed the dog unhealthy things. Sometimes what we feel overrides what we know, unfortunately. Still, she should be able to control herself when she knows what’s at stake. Her dog has so much potential that’s going to be turned into a low quality of life. Her dog won’t grow old.

To her, that is her showing love to her dogs (hell, I even sometimes "accidentally" drop food on the floor for my pooch. Not often, but it's hard to say no). There just needed to be a change in frame of mind; showing love is playing, cuddling, and giving dog appropriate treats. Not giving them people food even when they beg.

Not only that, they still didn't exercise her enough and didn't follow through avoiding the stealing. It's one thing to know the problem, but another to actively try to solve it. Honestly, they could've just locked the kitchen door and took her on more walks. Problem solved. It's THAT easy, but they just didn't want to put the effort into it. The lady with the Dachshund was the same. As soon as she saw results, she went back to her old behavior of feeding scrabs. She'll never be able to stop that. When she feeds the dog, it makes her happy. It's very selfish behavior and because every feed is a rush of dopamin for her, she won't stop. Even if it kills the dog long term. It makes her happy, so she continues.

When the lady said that the dog liked grapes my mouth DROPPED A couple years ago my dog ate 7 grapes and thank god I knew about it because I was able to rush her to the hospital. She got her stomach pumped and is totally fine now, but no one’s even brought grapes into the house ever since. I’m glad people know not to feed chocolate to their dogs, but I wish more people knew about grapes they’re so much more lethal
