Fully deserved top spot. IMO, good pop music is all about taking that small moment or idea and heightening it into being the only thing that matters for a few minutes, use all the production gusto, all the hooks needed. Dance With Somebody is perhaps the perfect embodiment of that idea. It's not a big idea or a particularly special one, but it is the stuff that builds a life, and Whitney captures it so perfectly.

Okay I'll be the party rock guy. I was in middle school when that dropped and it went absolutely nuts. You couldn't go more than a couple hours without someone playing it. Idk how this list is intended to be categorized but for people my age around that time, it wasn't a novelty song. Honestly Since U Been Gone actually slaps and has a lot of hidden dissonances in both the guitarr and vocal parts, especially in the verses. It also has some pretty interesting phrase lengths and Kelly’s vocal performance is absolutely ridiculus. It’s a lot better than people give it credit for. Anyway, Dancing On My Own was robbed. The story about Paul McCartney yelling at the orchestra on the Hey Jude sessions is hilarious and somehow I’ve never heard it before. I feel like the Beatles always had issues with orchestras which is why George Martin usually arranged and conducted those sessions. On A Day in the Life, the Beatles handed out Groucho glasses and silly masks for the stuffy classical musicians to wear and they were not happy about it.

It probably would have made it onto the list, but unfortunately this list only considers songs that charted on the Billboard Hot 100 (outside of the 90s, at least), and for whatever reason, "Dancing on My Own" didn't make it there: it stalled out at #13 on the Bubbling Under chart. And now I'm sad.

I feel like they don’t wanna come across as annoying by only selecting old songs at the top but yeah I’ve gotta agree that super bass as number 13 in pop songs of all time is truly truly insane. I’m not sure I saw a Hall and Oates song on here but any of their popular songs could take that spot over super bass easily.

I think that is more so an example of how modern/current listeners have impacted these pop tracks. 20 years ago, I think MJ would have taken it. Today...there is a LOT of people that play this song, in particular. I can't walk by a single gay club in my city that isn't pumping this song at all hours of the night. Random, but I understand.
