I am recently retired from full time sales. I resell for 2 reasons, to supplement my SSI and to keep my mind sharp. I can't call Ebay a hobby, I strive for profit. I struggle with a schedule. When I had a full time career I had every hour on track. I accomplished more by noon than most do in a day. Now retired I argue with myself when to work and when to relax. I've been selling on Ebay for a year and following your process loosely. I'm ready to commit to a larger listing goal and a schedule could be a lifesaver for me! Thank you Chris for daily motivation.

I'm starting out part time, and just started listing 1. I really didn't do sourcing(I am selling everything I have no use for) 2nd. I researched mostly everything the past month or so before my first listing, if I do find a great deal on something I pick it up and immediately research it, bag it and put it in a tote for items to be photographed.(I try to research every item asap, if I put it aside it will build up into a disaster) I get home at 6:30 at night(reg job) at 7 I start photos until 10, from 10-12 I research new items,or ones I haven't gotten to yet.from 12-1:30 I put everything into drafts, the next day on my breaks and lunch at work I review my listings,if everything looks good I post it.

My challenges are ACCOUNTABILITY, NO SCHEDULE and NO PREP. I am a single male with no dependents so I don't have a pressure to be consistent. I have no schedule so I start my work day whenever I feel like it. Unfortunately, my work day is never started and i just wasted a whole day. Lastly, I don't prep my items for the next day so I don't know how to start my new day. I have to structure my days to include these 3 things in order to grow my business!

@@mattk8810 - You are correct! After I saw this video, I went to my computer and made a daily TO DO list that I am required to check off one by one as I complete them. This will give me a direction everyday instead of being all over the place! I've included when to take my breaks and when to go to the gym. With a TO DO list, I won't feel right unless everything is completely marked off.

@@mattk8810 Goal list suggestions? I have a death pile, I have all the intention to just get at it, seasonal appropriate/most profitable ones first, trying to batch tasks & not focus on how many I have to do but idk I just need to approach it differently.

@@sydneytolman3066 - I made a detail TO DO list and I used clear box tape to laminate it so I could reuse it everyday with a dry erase marker. I don't allow myself to relax in the evening until every task is marked off. I think this could help you too since we have the same issues. We both lack direction. Hope this helps.

I think schedules are almost impossible in my situation right now. I have a disabled mom I'm taking care of who can't walk, a pregnant girlfriend, and two dogs. The dog walks are scheduled out as well as there feeding. My mother's meds are scheduled and we loosely schedule meals. I manage to do at the least 4 to 5 hrs. of work daily but to try to do it the same time everyday is nearly impossible. Mainly due to my mom not sleeping the same time ever. I do agree with most of the 7 things but I truly believe some people do fine without a schedule but I also agree it is helpful to work on a schedule and one day I plan to but the stress it causes me when something messes up my schedule isn't worth it. It literally ruins my mood/day if I'm unable to stick to my schedule.

Internet speed slows a lot of us down in listing, scaling and compressing the photos helps but upload speeds are often a lot worse than download and times out especially on ebay. Can be pretty off putting but I've found ways to deal with it I type up my listings in notepad++ and upload on a second screen while I'm doing that and if it's still uploading I'll work on art. Schedule is definitely the worst for me but I have a lot of projects going on, one of which is more important than ebay to me. ebay is definitely a close second though. Sourcing everyday wouldn't make sense for rural sellers, it's better for us to pick a day of the week and do as much of it as possible on that day.

It's something with the brain. Our brains like goals and things to be set and the same every day, if you don't have any plan you're going to get lost and fade out because your brain feels like there's no end and you get fatigued/bored.

I need help with everything. Which is why your advice to start slow is great advice. There is a learning curve. Much easier to correct 50 listings than 1k. I can continue to look for improvements in speed, set up, approach. If I went full blast posting 20plus items a day I would have created a disaster.

There was a lady in the other video asking about where to get a specific liquidated Target bag. Bulq used to get a lot of Target liquidation. I think Via Trading still gets some and Wholesale Ninjas, too. Target also used to liquidate palettes are on their own site at one point, I think. BUT! A lot of the liquidation is unmanifested, so I think it would be very difficult to find a specific SKU like what she was looking for. Target does mark down stock after the holidays, so if she's close to a store, maybe she can find some that didn't sell out locally. Otherwise, it's too hard to know where a specific SKU will end up.

i think the number one reason Resellers Fail trying to keep up with the joneses not living in there means taking more out than they put in there business most business take 5years to 10 years start being profitable business like baby you had to learn how to crawl before you walk some take more time than other i still trying learn how too crawl

I saw a comment that mentioned sourcing and being a rural seller. I do agree that sourcing in a rural area in the middle of the day, every day, may get you nothinging, just wasting gas. I am fortunate to have both the rural and city experience. I have an apartment in NYC and when I am in the city, my primary sourcing is done five walking minutes away at a great outlet and I do have the Goodwill bins in Long Island City. When I am in upstate NY it is a different story. Just the driving alone wastes most of my time and it is slim picking. I sell clothing and source on-line when I am upstate. I do have a Goodwill and Salvation Army store but the prices are so high that there is no profit to be made. Rather than spending the four hours driving around looking for items to buy, I go through the items I've sourced on-line. I make sure they are in condition to sell and I do have a steaming station where I want the clothes to be wrinkle free for photographing and steaming is almost like dry cleaning removing any odors. I want as little waste as possible so if I get unmanifested goods and I know I will not make at much of a profit on some, I will bundle and not donate. As for cutting my costs down, I am building a two story shed in my back yard with my profits so I do not have to rent a storage unit and want to be close to home. I currently store everything in my basement but there is a moisture problem so I have an industrial dehumidifier that takes care of that problem. I think people should look at their current space situation and see what will work for them as their inventory expands. A shed will be my solution and it will increase the value of my property. Another overlooked issue is employees and how to hire your spouse or children. I've worked in finance for over 30 years and can do all the tax and accounting in my head. I even have the IRS phone number and website memorized since I dealt with them all the time before retiring. You can hire relatives and your children, even if your children are very young. When I was reselling part time while holding a full time job, I had my eight year old son help me on a daily basis and I paid him. I kept accurate records and put all his earnings in a Roth IRA for a minor. There is no age limit for an IRA as long as it is earned income. Even a baby can have earned income, such as a child model or actor. Now my son is in college and his IRA is quite large. Hire your kids and relatives if it makes sense for you and know they would be more of an asset rather than a headache. It would be a win-win for both. I am sure taking packages to the post office or steaming clothes can be done with little effort. T
