Urgg I hate that song. Especially because the first time I heard it I thought "Oh wow what does it say, Im gonna listen to the lyrics" and it says nothing. Its just bland and unoriginal peter pan lyrics. There is no different angle or clever metaphor. He def got it right that the other song was the good peter pan song.

@animasuperfreakgirl7 жыл бұрын
Maybe but I don't think he did, I read the book this year. "There were odd stories about him, as that when children died he went part of the way with them, so that they would not be frightened." Gratned these are only stories that mister Darling has heard but i do think they hold value. Now while peter seems to have some concept of death he lacks the full understanding as he the emotional maturity of well a child and he forgets very easily as he is such as a child (in fact he forgot about hook after hook committed suicide but always remembered wendy). What you are referring to is that he "thinned them out". (Though you might also be thinking of the 'killing adults' thing but that needs a lot more context to understand) This is a vague statement that could easily mean that he abandoned them in the wood, made them leave never land and go back or kill them like you suggested. I was clearly left up for interpretation. If I remember correctly the lost boys used trees to get into their secret hide out but when the boys would no longer fit he would thin them out (this lead to a joke about how the fat lost boy thing out his tree instead). Which I interpreted as peter making them smaller potently horrifying or making no sense but this is a book where the narrator had an argument with Mrs. Darling, Mrs. Darling had a box holding a secret kiss and the narrator tossed a dice in order to decide how to tell the story. In other words, this book is big on whimsy and nonsense. It's possible that peter did straight up kill the lost boys but honestly I find that a boring interpretation as neverland is a child's playland dark and thrilling not a merely a paradise or merely full of silliness and laughter ( it is abit of all three). It is intense where children fly rather than walk and they kill the pirates that are as horrible as can be. While possible for peter to kill his friends it doesn't quite work with his mo of killing villains and most kids don't want their friends permanently gone rather they want the abblity to have their friends come and go when they( in this case peter) want so I think it's more likely that he kicked them out then forgot they existed. This in turn opens interesting stories about former lost boys living out in the real world which I find far more interesting. Especially since lost boys already die in the fights with the pirates. What's more peter pan is portrayed with both positives and negatives. Barry loves to show peter pan in a positive light but doesn't shy away from the tragedy and the negatives of the character. For example, he has the positives of a child as he is adventures and fun loving but also selfish and bratty and due to his short memory is incapable of deciding if he truly wants to be a kid forever or if he wants to grow up. This is something Barry did with Wendy to and even hook and tinker bell too much lesser extents. Barry portrayed peter pan as a complex figure and his never growing up as both good (endless adventure) and bad(unable to fully understand things like death). Sorry for the long post but over-simplifying children's story books bugs me ;) Also feel free to tell me i'm wrong if I forgot something.

@tommycarr81117 жыл бұрын
Lady Marmalade Hey! That's an insult to the colour beige. The baku would like to disagree.
@helenanilsson56666 жыл бұрын
1. If it's popular we call it "nude", not "beige". Though admittedly "nude" is a slightly too exciting word for this song. 2. I like the colour beige/nude. 3. The above is probably related to why I actually like the song quite well. It's very harmless, a little melancholic - and very neutralising when the road rage creeps up so I usually appreciated it when the song came on the radio.

"lost boy" reminds me of those slowed-down trailer themes that think doing an acoustic cover of a children's song automatically make it deep and profound. i think ruth b was going for a nostalgic 'childhood lost - i need to escape reality', or even a 'Wish We Could Turn Back Time to the Good Old Days' vibe, but the song doesn't understand how to convey that without drowning in cliches and detached dullness.

What I don't get is how overpraised "Lost Boy" is. Seriously, looking at the comments on the video, people seem to think it is "a song with REAL talent and meaning" and how it "brings up feelings" and such. I just really don't understand it.
@CNWhatImSaiyan7 жыл бұрын
Maybe they're associating it with drugs like with most other fairy tails. "Peter" is the dealer, "Tinker bell" is the main provider of "pixie dust" (read: blow), the "Lost Boys" and "Wendy Darling" are their customers, and "Captain Hook" is the Po-Po. The appeal of Lost Boy is that the somber tone tricks the young listener into thinking that it's more mature and there's a deeper meaning to it. Despite the fact that, even if there is a deeper meaning to it, that deeper meaning would be based on a fundamental misunderstanding of the point of the Peter Pan story: you don't actually want to be a Lost Boy. The fact that Peter Pan and the Lost Boys never grew up is supposed to be a bad thing

But like Todd said, that version forces you to imagine Beyonce and Ed Sheeran as a couple, which makes me want to puke(I added that last part in myself, because, blegh!) I think the appeal of Daya is the fact that she, like Lorde when she made it big, was 17 when she had her first hit. "Woooow, she's so young and is able to sing even though she's so young! Can you believe a teenager can do something as well as an adult? Amazing, give her a record deal!"

Secret Steve little thing called illusion of choice. Artists are treated like brands and they try to brand them with a certain image depending on the market to their voice. If a star such as Lorde hit it big they try to tap into that and so on and so forth. Even bands so far back as the 50s were all trying to be the Platters or whatever trio/quintet group that was out there. That is until rock hit the scene and everyone is all just trying to compete for a more vast audience. Music isnt just a list. Its a spectrum, and it changes alongside society the way i see it.

A G you can have somber and slow songs that are way more well written than lost boy. Lost boy is very generic, and produced to appeal to the masses. There's a difference between somber and boring/poorly written. Also I don't agree that boring generic songs are popular amongst the indie fans. If you want to listen to a band that does slow songs that aren't generic af or boring and are actually well written check out the indie bands grizzly bear or alt j.

@someonerandom85527 жыл бұрын
That's just various darker retellings, not actual canon. The tragedy of Peter Pan is that he never grows up and forever hindered by the detriments of childhood. His life, though prolonged, is not a life. It's a game. He never experiences what it's like to actually live a fulfilling life, it's one stuck during the years of preadolescence. He never gets to meet his sweetheart or have kids of his own or build a life for himself. He doesn't know what it's like to lead a rich fulfilling life because he's too afraid to. I've read all of the original plays and novel. The darkness is overblown by conspiracy theorists on the internet.

Hey, here's a story for ya - 2016 was my last year of intermediate school (NZ equivalent of middle school) and at the end of the year we had our leavers' dinner. Everyone had to perform something that night (it was a small school, there were about 40 of us in our year) and as expected most people not part of a group performed a song - lots of white guys with acoustic guitars and white chicks with pianos. One such white girl with a piano performed 'Lost Boy'. At the time I assumed that it was an original song that she wrote simply because of how basic it was - I thought "oh cool, an original song and not another cover of some stupid pop song". Fast forward a few years and I watch this video. I remember thinking "wait, Lost Boy was like, an actual song? That girl didn't write it herself? Jeeesus"
