@growlingbehemoth Where?? where can you buy booze at 15?? You'll get Id'd
@hejmine3 жыл бұрын
@@AnkfordPlays It's not unlikely. In Denmark drinking is a deeply rooted cultural stable, for better and for worse. If you're under normal circumstances you'll begin light drinking by age 15, and can buy anything under 16& freely at age 16. I have friends who started drinking at age 13-14, and I'm from a suburb as basic as it gets. It doesn't seem strange to me that a guy from a commune with bendy social rules and loose supervision could be getting into beers at age 11. Besides, Graham was a child star featured in a hyper-popular set of family films (krummerne) as a character that somewhat transcended the show (grunk), and thus became even more popular. This very well may have affected his situation and may have bent the rules even further. I don't exactly condone it, but just saying that it's nothing near unlikely.

True story. . . I was in the hospital a couple of weeks ago with a foot injury. It was Friday night, and they had just discharged the guy who shared the room with me. It was also slow on the floor so the nurses were all in the station across the hall talking. Since I had the room to myself, I watched this review without my headphones on. When you got to the part when you complained about them yelling "LUKAS GRAHAM!" one of the nurses came in and yelled it as well. She'd been listening. I thought she was a fan of yours but no, she was a fan of Lukas Graham and thought I was too; she'd told me she saw them in concert and everything. I didn't have the heart to tell her I was watching you tear this song a new one (and rightfully so). so I heard an interview with Lukas Graham (including Lukas Graham) on BBC Radio 1 (national UK radio for anyone that doesn't know). It was the worst trainwreck I think I'd ever heard. The host was asking about this hit, how does it feel to be UK number 1/etc and he literally wouldn't shut up about how he was already a massive star in Denmark. He even described his own hit as a surprise because it was so simplistic, basically belittled the English people for liking it, and the way he talked about his own music was so clinical (this chord structure with that intonation/etc) that it truly felt like he had no passion for the music he was making. The host said something along the lines of "yeah you're a star in Denmark, you're in the UK right now and we're talking about the UK hit", and in the typical English way was laughing and sorta prodding him lightly. The rest of his band literally had to tell him to calm down because he was so offended his genius wasn't more obvious

If "Strip No More" were meant as a joke, it would've been incredible. Seriously, imagine The Lonely Island doing a better cover of that song.
@shawnfields23694 жыл бұрын
I agree, dude. Why are they so serious on this song? It should've been played as a joke. Nobody's going to take a song called "strip no more" seriously, if you're not going to play it off as a joke. The Lonely Island could make this premise work. They made a song about just being on a boat sound hilarious. They made a song where a guy goes through his life of being a boss, where he constantly gets rejected, and turns into a jet and crashes into the sun, they could make this work. I'd buy a song about a stripper quitting, if it were a joke, and from The Lonely Island. Their version would be the good one. It's already miles better than this bullshit, and that version doesn't even exist, and never will. I still miss The Lonely Island. It's a shame I only got into their music AFTER they stopped making music. I also miss Macklemore... he could probably make a concept like this work. Probably...
@thejake14534 жыл бұрын
Why do you think it is supposed to be taken 100% seriously? On the album Lukas before playing the song mentions its about a friend who fell in love with a stripper. He talks about it in a very light hearted and goofy way. It's not really the same thing as Lonely Island. Lonely Island make joke songs, Strip No More is a goofy light hearted song about a dumb friend.

It's one of the best demonstrations that bad pop music comes in many, many forms, regardless of style, genre, or era, and ultimately that not "getting" something is quite a different feeling that actively hating something. It's also kinda a rebuttal against the "le wrong generation" crowd too.

One thing I found fascinating about this song was how despite it was meant to be a snap shot of his entire life, Lucas Graham only ever talks about men. He talks about his father, his boys, and a man who made so happy once by writing a letter. The only mention of anyone female is "my woman" giving him children. Not how they met, not the love they shared, not their marriage, not their growing old together, not the comfort a wife or partner can bring just that at some point he took possession of a woman and got babies out of her. Which says a very sad thing about his outlook on life, I feel. I wouldn't mind if this was like Cat's in the Cradle which is specifically about fatherhood, but this song is just about life and ageing and there is nothing to suggest that Lucas Graham will ever find any happiness in his partner.

As a Dane I'd like to apologize for Lukas Forchhammer (The Graham surname bit came later) just as Canadians apologize for Justin Bieber. When Lukas Graham was 7 years old he had been a child actor in several financially succesful slapstick comedy kids movies titled "Krummerne" (The "Crumbs") for about 4 years, so don't even remotely try to buy his loner atitude. I worked briefly with a small Danish tv production company who later, after I started on my education,made a 24 episode christmas TV special called "Krummernes Jul" (directly translated; The "Crumbs" christmas) in 1996, where Lukas (8 years old at the time) played the younger brother, "Grunk". The issues and increased difficulties that I heard this spoiled kid caused (refusing to say his lines if he didn't immedately got a toy truck, ruining shots by flipping the bird or sticking out his tounge) up to the point where the production crew considered replacing him, if there was ever going to be made another "Krummerne" movie (which never happpened though.)

not to be "that guy", but i thought i'd say something as i grew up sort of socially adjacent to Lukas (his auntie was my music teacher and we lived quite near eachother), and saw it discussed further in the comments. Lukas almost certainly was smoking and drinking by 11 - a LOT of us were. Lukas grew up in Christiania, a large autonomous community in Copenhagen. It's a really lovely community, with markets and restaurants, lots of crafts and a hugely vibrant art scene -- it's also most well known for open cannabis trade. the dealers have stalls, it's as simple as going up and asking for something. even when you're 11. i was smoking and drinking spirits by 12, and so were a lot of my friends and classmates. it's very, very common, at least in copenhagen. it's also not something most of us are very proud of as adults, i don't think. i think he was aiming more for hard-life-pity, rather than how much of a baller he was in middle school. I've also always thought that the soundbite of his name and thunderous applause was from the first award they won, and always thought that was quite nice and heartfelt. i haven't been able to substantiate that in any way though. i'm not sure if that would make it better or worse for you, just thought i'd give a bit of context. also, there's tonnes of great Danish music you should check out! danish 80's pop is in a league of it's own. a lot of it is in danish, but still so worth listening to, and not just in a Rock Me Amadeus way! Rocazino, Shit & Chanel, Kliché, Sanne Salomonsen and Lis Sørensen are some of the greats, just to name a few. we also had a brilliant indie scene in the 2000s, bands like Oh No Ono, VETO and Choir of Young Believers are all well worth a listen. we also have a HUGE rap/reggae/dancehall scene for some reason (probs all the weed) if that's something you're into.

I looked them up on Wikipedia and it says, "In December 2015, the company became a subsidiary of Disney Consumer Products and the Disney Interactive division of The Walt Disney Company". So yeah! Disney money ^.^

+Joshua M Todd is part of Maker Studios, which is owned by Disney. I wouldn't exactly call it "Disney Money," but yeah, he technically works for Disney.

This video is 7 years old. Its mama told it to go make some friends or it'll be lonely. This video is 7 years old.

"Once I was 20 years old, I got kicked out of Del Taco 'cause my girlfriend drew a dick on the window with hot sauce!" A true story that's way more compelling than anything in this song.

I remember the first time I heard this song I thought the “Lucas Grahaaaaam” shout was a train passing by. I only realized it was a crowd when I watched this a few years ago.

I don't know if anyone else has said this but does this song remind them of Daniel Powter's "Bad Day"? Like maybe part of the melody or maybe it's the way Lukas Graham sings but after watching this video "Bad Day" keeps popping up in my head randomly and it pisses me off! Thanks a lot Lukas Graham.

MyssBlewm At least Daniel actually had something to say and did it better.

Actually the song this reminds me most of is that song from the '70's "Lonely Boy" by Andrew Gold, who whines throughout the song about how great life was until tragedy struck: he had "gasp" A BABY SISTER! Then his life sucked forever! kzbin.info/www/bejne/mKCkp2B4qpmAqKs

I can see why you say that. But I'd much rather hear Bad Day than 7 Years.

A lot of comments are pointing out that Lukas is probably telling the truth about his underage drinking and drug use…I think it’s a really good example of how something can be factually true, but rendered trite and inauthentic by lazy, incurious art.

It wouldn’t even need many changes to be a decent song, but they’re trying so hard to sound important and grandiose. AJR is another example, I appreciate the honesty of some lyrics, the topics of disillusion with the world and lack of self fulfillment could be great. But every other decision in every song is awful

Not exactly inauthentic, but in a really overglorified manner. Lukas Graham is the kind of wanna-be alpha male that would shit on casual gamers in an MMO who are "just" playing for fun, not for winning.

Feels fitting to revisit this vid 7 years later and that Lukas Graham are a non-existent presence in pop music. It's also one of the best videos Todd's ever made. Keep at it, shadowman.

This is the best video Todd did. He’s extremely on point throughout and his over the top criticisms hit so hard. Also his parody’s he plays throughout the review kick so much ass

I still think about that transition from "I get it!" to "I mean, I don't like it, I actually hate it" to this day.

This will probably get lost in the comments, but they grew up in a hippie commune neighborhood of Copenhagen called Christiania, which is the largest weed market in the world, so it was possible to have access to weed at 11 years old.
