Here's a radical idea: Instead of pandering to who you think are the marginal voters necessary to keep you in power, why not state what you believe in, what you want to achieve, and what policies you think would help to achieve that. Then everyone who agrees with you votes for you, and those who don't agree don't. The UK has been absolutely ruined by this unprincipled professional politicking.

Farage and Johnson forced all the sensibly Tories out so they could have their foolish Brexit. The ones left are inadequate to be able to attract the centre voters.

Can't. Because the voters will vote strategically still because of FPTP. Stuff like that works best in PR

It's baffling how both sides always go through this time wasiting, idiotic debate. When Tories lose "do we go centre or further right?!" when Labour lose "do we go centre or further left?!" The extremists win the argument, they stay in the unelectable wilderness for ten+ years, go back to the centre and then win. How stupid does someone have to be to lose to the centre and think the reason they lost was they didn't concentrate more on a tiny lunatic fraction of society? There is no debate.

It's because the extremist wings of a party are usually mote cultlike and fervently dedicated to heir leader, so when chaos in the party happens they mobilise quicker than the fragmented centrist blocs and quickly win out It's a historical pattern not just in modern politics, but in 1930s germany, the russian revolution, the french revolution, the american revolution, and even ancient rome

You ever considered that principles matter, that centrism is the middle road fallacy writ large, that the public are for the most part old-school social democrats and that the 'centrist' elites in charge are the real extremists? There's nothing centrist about Blair's war crimes, about Cameron's food banks. It's all stomach-turning.

I don’t think that’s accurate. Boris won a large majority with a manifesto promising Brexit, lower taxes and lower immigration. Although it wasn’t delivered they are all considered right-wing policies. Same over in the states, Trump won based on lowering immigration and tax and it looks like he’ll win again based on the same policies.

Yeah but he had a very key policy to get through. Get Brexit done and that resonated deeply. Add his charisma and that’s how he won. But Honestly if he was leading right now the Tories would still lose, albeit with a much stronger opposition coming out of the election.

Boris didn't actually gain many votes (it was about a 1-2% increase on Theresa May's election), labour lost them because it was Corbyn, who lost from the far left. Bit like how conservatives are haemorrhaging votes to reform now only not quite in the same scale.
