Never to much if it's something you've wanted. I know I want a bike as it should be. If it needs it I'll buy it. Only bugger is I keep forgetting what I've bought. I've four sets of lights for my k3 gsxr and two tanks. Yes my Mrs is losing it 🤣

@@TheGorillaBiker hi mate, love your videos, I've got a 99 gsxr 600 which was turned into a 1 seater track bike, I'm converting it back to a 2 seater again, just a quick question if you don't mind, we're abouts is the pillion seat key situated and how is it attached to the bike or fairings itself, thanks in advance

Just (today) finished by 50% rebuild of exactly the same bike & same colour. Really pleased to have done all the work myself. Was stood for 14years covered up prior to my quite extensive work. @@TheGorillaBiker So pleased & satisfied to have sourced the parts & done all the work myself 😀 Can't imagine what a dealer & decent mechanic would have cost. Feels great to get it as near to how it came out of the showroom as a brand new bike almost 28yrs ago. It's done 30,800miles from new & yet nothing in 14yrs...time to get on it, whenever the weather is suitable for it 😀

That spend is 100% justified, you’ve saved a beautiful bike from just rotting away in a shed, learnt loads, enjoyed doing the project through one of the shittiest most boring periods in modern history, created a great build series out of it and.... you have a lovely new bike... for €2500... no brainer! i have a GSXR-750 R like yours and its awesome that you do it for the experience. Same here. The end sum is always worth far more than the money or the bike truth be said! I replaced the yolk and added risers with a Renthal straight handle bar and modified clutch cable for extra length. Got the parts from a Northern chaps CNC business. Top quality stuff. Added day running lights and dynatek coils (bike would cut out after 15 miles riding and no one could fix it, the cheap coils were the problem, they breakdown when hot), rewired every cm of wiring, added led lights, indicators and emergency flasher too. Had a massive problem with bike breaking down when hot, then after 20 minutes it was fine again. Went to a zillion mechanics and no one picked up the cheap coils were the issue as they worked fine until hot! I replaced everything for and thh the worked out it was the Coils. By this time i had striped the bike and replaced the cdi, battery, clocks, switches and some plastics. Then the petrol hoses and petrol pet cock, chain and sprocket, ignition barrel, did brakes and refurbed callipers. i had to make up a new fairing bracket as the new handles bars are 1.5" higher and thats a lot. Im sure there was plenty more in fact lol. Now i need to get it through it MOT and then strip it and clean it up. Remove the rusty nuts and chipped paint and get her looking a little nicer! Yours is the best colour, i think most favour the black and gold ( HONDA CBR style ) but mines the blue and white one.
@TheGorillaBiker
@TheGorillaBiker 2 жыл бұрын
Indeed it does, like working on cheaper bikes that need a lot of work to keep tipping along is imo the best thing to have, you'll know the thing like the back of your hand. That's some serious amount of work fair play!! How do you find it with straight bars? It'll be a forever bike anyway with that amount of work gone in to it surely? How are old bikes to go through the MOT over yonder? I have a leaky carb at the moment so must sort that now, just leaving fuel in to a cylinder. I do love the colour on mine, I like all the colours and I think the blue and white is probably more popular overall!

Best greetings from Greece 🇬🇷 to Ireland 🇮🇪 where I lived four years. Indeed you put a lot of effort into this as a University apprenticeship project hence you should be PROUD 👏 for the successful outcome. However, it is worth mentioning "the older it gets, the harder is to maintain a machine". That's why owners shed tears when they are forced to get rid of superb old school bikes due to high maintenance or insurance costs! By the way, what is your major occupation lad? I wish I was in Route 66 in USA to enjoy riding this GSXR750 🏍 bike. As an alternative there should be a similar straight no bumps countryside road in Ireland!
@TheGorillaBiker
@TheGorillaBiker Жыл бұрын
A university apprenticeship project? I'm confused! :D I don't know is that altogether true tbh. Older bikes needs a bit more maintenance due to wear and age, but it's generally very easy to do and parts are cheap. The newer the bike the more expensive it is to maintain in my experience. I'm a mechanical engineer! Straight roads are incredibly boring in my opinion :D If I could get the road surface they have here with the twists and turns that we have in Ireland, that'd be the dream.

Yeah it was, overall cheaper than buying a decent one which would still need stuff fixed!! Oh dear :/ The beauty of old bikes eh! You may try it, not have it :D You may also fondle it! That's a fair point....still it was an overall everything I spent thingy but yeah if you remove that it's even tastier.

Loved this thanks. Have had a few gsxr bikes and always had my eye on a srad would have bought years ago although was never keen on the bars propping up the screen. I do love the earlier twin round lights on the early gsxr. Given a good idea of cost on my next project thanks. Such a bugger the north West being off again was looking forward to that. Noticed you tallied up all the cost but I'm curious where the bike came from if it had been sitting with you for 13years? Was it your bike already mate? Did you buy it or was it in your family already? I was wondering why you never included the cost of the bike to begin with? Their not cheap to buy these days! I'm interested on the story of the bike and how u came to own it and decide to restore it? 👍🏼

Ah yes I didn't mention that :D It's in another video somewhere in the rebuild series, it was my uncles bike. He gave it to me last year after many moons of drooling over it. They're not cheap and I'd have never had the chance to own one otherwise tbh! So I'll be thankful of that forever :)

I'll add it to the list of videos to make but I generally try stay away from that kind of direct advice video as people get very angry :D I did do a video on buying a used bike though that honestly covers most of the advice I'd give for any bike, including this one! Big hitters are check the plug to the rectifier isn't melted as that can happen, make sure it starts ok from both cold and hot, and listen for any rattles from the cam chain! Other than that they're pretty bulletproof bikes!
