The best addition I put on my K3 was the akrapovic end can. My wife can hear me before I get to the house. It's not over loud just a nice rumble. I'd put it on par with hearing my wife's Subaru Impreza coming down the street. Distinctive

i agree wtih your likes on your SRAD. it took me a while, but the looks are unique and distinguishable. for it's time, it was a very fast bike, eventhough it was only a 750. my 99 srad 750 is a track-only bike, and it performs well for it's age. i'm happy with my SRAD. your channel motivates me to take better care of my bike. thanks

@@TheGorillaBiker I actually preferred it to the K4. But after 6 years racing it I had it set up to perfection. WP rear. K tech at the front. Dymag wheels. Blue printed and gas flowed. Very early power commander to give it a tad over 130 at the rear.

I had a 1996 one of those (in the 2000s), but red rather than gold. I'd have preferred the gold, but no matter. It was a great bike. Easy to ride around and feral when you wanted it. Great for track days, and as you say a great sound. I can't ride well enough to be worried about awesome brakes. I also love the fact it has analogue dials rather than an LCD screen. I haven't had a bike since sadly, and I'm amazed when my mate shows up with a new bike that has a speed shifter, ABS, traction control, a settings menu, on and on.

The voice of the enthusiast! I love these videos when you get carried away with the emotion of the topic. Old v New, For me it is just i like this, but I don't like that, on the basis of looks, reputation, feel, the individual qualities of a machine. The only irrational prejudice is I think Triumph. Yes the bikes they make now are fantastic, but for me growing up when I did, coming to bikes when I did, when I see their timeless logo I can hear the awful noise, and oil leaks, think of the lack of quality of the bikes I knew then..... I have loved all the bikes I have owned. Appreciated all the bikes I have ever ridden, and look forward to new experiences in the future...... Very enjoyable video.

Haha I just love bikes. I should record some of my conversations with people then when I'm trying to convince them of the greatness of bikes :D That's fair though, for me it's BMW cars. I don't think I'd ever buy one and while I can appreciate they look nice I've fixed far too many of them for people and they horrible design to get to parts and such to change them out. So, I get it. I do like their bikes tho, especially their older ones. I'm the same, I haven't had many(yet) but I can't see myself not appreciating them all for their own strengths and weaknesses. Thanks Stephen, glad you enjoyed it :)

I can agree with you about BMW. I remember being shocked by the number of recalls, and warranty repairs went on when I was working for a dealership. Not new models, but just poorly designed engineered parts on existing vehicles. As it was at the time of the K100 launch I won't talk about the shortcomings of the brick. But were still doing recalls on the R series cast wheels as well. R80ST still the best BMW for me.

I love all bikes, old & new,. Indeed i've owned & used old & new, but it's the older ones that give me greater pleasure in owning. They stir up many great memories, great conversation...& if they ride & look great just like the Srad, it's the icing on the cake. My personal favourites that i've owned inc, 750 Srads with the WT carb models being iconic, Honda VFR NC30's, Honda VFR 750's, Rgv 250's, Kawasaki Kr1s 250's & the 2000/01 Honda 929RRY Fireblade of which i've covered 68k miles on. All the newer bikes i've owned haven't given me the same smile on my face, as the above mentioned.

That's a very nice collection of some beautiful bikes :) 68k miles is serious good going on a sports bike too :) I've just bought another old bike, rode it back 1700km from Germany and to say it put a smile on my face is an understatement :)

@@TheGorillaBiker Brilliant, what bike have you just bought? I agree, soul is the right word for many older bikes. My Srad the same as yours has done 39k & is in amazing condition, owner & pampered by an airline engineer who I purchased it from around 10yrs ago. The Blade has been serviced by myself from & other than wearable items & regular oil/filter changes, it's only needed a stator rewind. Amazingly reliable bike thats done it all, weekend blasts, european tours, track days etc. Never onced missed a beat. What miles has your Srad done now? I've had the later WV injection models, but the carb WT models have felt more pure to me. Unsure how long to keep the Srad, maybe forever :-)

I like bikes from the 90’s and 00’s, but at least in Australia they’re quite expensive. I was looking at an 04 CBR1000RR - which I’d owned in my twenties. But a good example is $7,000, and would still need some work in terms of replacing hoses, tyres etc. So instead I got a 2016 sportsbike that I felt gave greater value for money.

Yeah the 80s and 90s are where most of the bikes I want are from buuuut they're not only hard to get but generally rotten here. Just checked, that's about 4500 euro, so pretty similar to here, and agreed, sometimes it really is far cheaper to just go for a newer bike and avoid the worn out stuff headaches. I buy the older stuff not really to save money but purely out of the love of them :)

96 was a good year :D it was the year i got my full bike license :P induction noise on my landrover is nice, its a pure roar and woosh of air getting sucked in, sounds like power... the joys of carbed big petrol engines i like old tech tbh im not going to knock modern inovations but theirs something special about driving or riding a top notch vintage vehicle, i learnt more driving old cars than i did with new cars and the same with bikes, most bikes ive rode were older bikes, quite a few of them didnt even have some of the basics like a nuetral light etc :D think thats why i like older bikes more they are just more enjoyable to ride, if they break down you can usually fix them at the side of the road and it wont cost a arm and a leg and doesnt need plugging into a laptop etc. older bikes but im definatly sane :D and their are some modern bikes i would love :D

It was also the year my Supermagna was imported to Ireland so a great year!! :D I can imagine, all those old, big old petrols make a lovely whooshy noise :D Big old huge turbo diesels also sound tasty! I'm the same tbh, not even riding/driving them but also servicing and working on them I feel I just learnt more cus you can see more of what's going on too! Exactly! Way cheaper to fix most of the times! As much as I like EFI, injectors and control units etc are not cheap at all! @@TheGorillaBiker heres a video of a 2.25 petrol landrover kzbin.info/www/bejne/laWZfHZvnbN6gdU this one has the stock oil bath filter on, it cuts down the induction noise, throw a KN air filter on and omg its so epic, another great thing about the 2.25 petrol engine is on over run when you let off the throttle they pop and fart amazingly, even with stock exhausts and air filter. learnt so much working on old vehicles too driving and riding old vehicles makes you apretiate them and you realise that the old school drivers/riders when they did epic trips was something special, you loose that with modern day vehicles as so much is done for you and those same trips are like a muted version of what it must of been like in the old days. not going to lie ive been looking at the indians and drooling a fair bit :P was actually showing my friend them last night as we were talking about bikes and how some modern ones just dont have the same appeal as the old ones, i said but wait look at these indians :D

@@TheGorillaBiker that 2nd vid i linked is pretty good too :D yeah those engines the 2.25 petrols are great especially if you get the tappets right they run like sowing machines, the sound of the air rushing into the carbs when you open the throttle is just pure OOOOOOHHHH the basicness of them is part of the charm, everything is mechanical, from the fuel pump to ignitian system, they burble far more than a inline 4 should and even though stock the bhp is 73 they pull like a boss, mind my previous one was well over 125bhp which was so much fun running through the gearbox set up :D so much torque i could snap a half shaft like butter, used to keep 2 spares with me at all times :D could eat boy racers up to 50mph though in their xr`s or such was only the gearing that let me down after that lol. ive done some long distance drives in my landrover and loved every minute of it, you get to see stuff around you pretty much the same as you do on a bike which you dont get with cars in my experience. mind i did some long distance rides too on old bikes, even back in the day i did silly milage rides on a cg125 :D dont need to map old landrovers to pop and fart lol they do it naturally lol

I had to give my SRAD up back in 2001 as part of a divorce settlement. Currently looking for a replacement, we have unfinished business. I own a few modernish bikes that will destroy a SRAD but there is something about them that makes me want to feel and tame the undiluted rawness bikes from this era have. Depending on what I find I'm certainly looking for a minter for the road and collection and will most likely find a few 40 footers on the way that can become track bikes. I just bought a 2008 R6 for track but its much too nice to mess up. I can sell it and buy 2 SRAD's with the money.

I was a teen through the 90s, and that is my preferred era of bikes, though I like the retro look new bikes such a Triumph thruxton and would have one in half a second if I could afford one. But I really love the SRAD from the mid/late 90s. Don't hate new bikes at all but I also remember taking a 2006 or 2007 gxsr600 for a ride and my knees didn't even fit in the cutouts. My lanky legs just don't fit modern era supersports well at all..

96 was an experimental year for the SRAD. Unfortunately they made it too light. The 96 is very hard to keep down on two wheels at full throttle. I had a 93, and it was quite the opposite with almost 100lbs more weight. It didn't come up easy. You needed to drop the clutch or the rpms to stand it up. In my opinion, all street bikes should be at least 450lbs for full stability off the line and at top speed. In my opinion, 98 was the peak of perfection for the gsxr 750. Fuel injection brought perfection. I heard 99 had some clutch issues. In 2000 the rear end did become more sleek with its new aerodynamics, unfortunately the front end became way too pointy and ugly.
@TheGorillaBiker
@TheGorillaBiker 10 ай бұрын
I disagree on the too light part tbh, If you look at any race bike they are light as possible within the ruleset, and while the bike can get frisky it's very controllable imo, and I had it on track 10-12 times since this video. It was a street legal race bike essentially, which I personally love. I mean the current GSXR 750 is 418lbs or thereabouts! Fuel injection would have been a nice to have for tuning and whatnot but I wouldn't trade my 96 for the world tbh, the carbs are also pretty easy to work on :) Yeah I was not, and am still not, a fan of the newer front ends at all.

@TheGorillaBiker Thanks for responding. I did always question what my cousin told me back in '97 when he got a '96 black and gold SRAD. He said he just couldn't keep it on two wheels and was always worried it would get out from underneath him. He sold it after one summer and bought a new 98 CBR 900RR. He said the CBR was far superior, and there was absolutely no comparison in the two bikes. He absolutely loved his CBR but was scared of it after almost getting kicked off when the rear end got loose excelerating too hard and sold it after one summer. Never to ride again. Myself I was run down by a drunk in broad daylight back in '96 exactly one week out of high school on my '93 gsxr 750. I've spent the last 10,154 days in a wheelchair completely paralyzed from the chest down. God held me in His arms that day, and He has carried me since. All praise and glory to The Holy Father and The Holy Son. God bless you and yours.

What a great question. It segues well to a question I wanted to ask you... What do you think of the early 90's oil/air cooled GSXR750 'Slingshot's'?. I'm super partial to the 90/91's. I think they're the most beautiful GSXR's ever, but that's JMO. The only Gixxer that I've owned was a 14 GSXR1000. Loved it but insurance was frustratingly high, so I sold it. I'm NOT happy about that.😕 Nowadays "my peepee grows" for 'Nakeds' (bikes and boobs, sorry, just had to 😆) and 'StreetFighters'. They're just such practical Hooligan machines 😁

Love them, I'd have one tomorrow if I had unlimited space and money. They're a beautiful bike. I would agree except I also love the SRAD...definitely top...3 GSXRs I like :) I'd still like to get a 1000 at some point but I'd likely just skip over them and get a Busa. Insurance is a pain, all of the time, everywhere. I had it but it's necessary I suppose since killing thieves is illegal. Haha I have to agree there :D The FTR 1200 and MT10 definitely get me going in a big way. They are - fun when you want them to be and also grand to ride about on.

@@TheGorillaBiker For sure, it's all subjective, and prolly can also depend on what we saw during the early days of our Motorcycle obsessions. When I was a youngster (and totally enamored with bikes) I saw NEW Slingshot's ridin around. Those aggressive lines, slim aluminum ("aluminium" does sound better I admit 😄) perimeter frames, colors, open fairings with their gills just screamed cool. 😎 Also super loved the CBR600F2's and VFR750's, and dug the ZX's too. It was just a great time for puuurty (I mean bad ass) scoots. Yeah, the FTR is dope AF. Like the MT10 too, but its about those mills and that sound, otherwise they look a lil too Transformer for me. Don't mind me, not tryin to push my views on anyone, just jabberin bout bikes. What can I say, I guess I'm still a lil obsessed 🤪

It's honestly something that does make me a little sad that I didn't grow up in an area that was more heavily filled with bikes and in a time I could have seen my favourite bikes brand new :) Haha yeah all the purty bikes :D I'd have the FTR faster, but the MT10 is something I'm probably more likely to own as they're a nice bit cheaper than the FTR here. But I agree even I'd rather the sound of the twin in the FTR :) Haha you and me both :D This is the place for the motorcycle obsessed.

@@TheGorillaBiker Totally bro, but what I meant when I said "the bikes 'we' saw new in 'our' early days", I meant the bikes that were out in my early 20's, and for you, the bikes that were new in your early 20's, or anyone's favorite era. Like for me, I wonder, were those bikes in the early 90's really that great?, or was it just MY perception as a snapshot in time?. Sorry, gettin all 'philosophical' here lol. 😆 For the record, I don't think all the best bikes came out at ANY certain time. There are an absolute butt-ton of killer bikes out now. It's arguable that right now is the best time ever, with the Super Dukes, Tuonos, S1000's, Busas, Speedies, Streeties, MT's, Fireblades, I mean I'm just scratchin the surface here!. There are SO many right now. One things for sure, if someone said to me... "Ok, money's no object, if you could have one bike, what would it be?, you have 10 seconds to decide!"... I definitely wouldn't pick the 91 Slingshot lol...But I might pick the 2021 Triumph Speed Triple 1200RS, bc holy s**t!, they've outdone themselves with that one! 😍😛
