Have you wanted to get into Rally Racing but have no idea where to start?
Rally is one of the most fun motorsports out there but can seem daunting to get started with. It's actually not that hard!..... and surprisingly has a really low barrier to entry, you just need to know what do! Here are the 5 steps you should take to get started as a beginner..... they will probably surprise you.

I just did my first Rally-X a few weeks ago and I'm addicted(also got 1st in my class modified RWD) Im scouring the internet trying to find more locally to me. The event I was at was a special 1 day thing for the car show I was at over the weekend. Hope to have more opportunity to race in the future, it's definitely addictive 😂

The speeds in stage rally are much higher, stage rally is infinitely more dangerous/chaotic. I remember one year driving buy an evo 4 on its roof in a creek, I remembered it cause they rolled the windows down (or up in this case) and the water was flowing through the roof of the car, that same race the guy in front of me literally jumped off a cliff into a tree, we didn’t even know till the end of the stage, the next day some local was driving his truck the wrong way on the stage and almost hit us head on lol and holy cow I’ve never been so lost in my life as I’ve been when my codriver missed a turn in transit lol The best thing to do to prepared for stage rally is to get hooked up with a team and help them out with the rally, you will see the craziest stuff.
@BoostRodeo
@BoostRodeo 11 ай бұрын
I completely agree, the best thing you can do for stage is volunteer to help a team out in exchange for getting to hang out in the pits, checkout the course and ask questions. It's a crazy sport and you will learn so much at your first race.

A focus is actually a great rally platform. A lot of rally schools use them because they handle well, there is aftermarket support, and replacement parts are readily available. Just find any race you can get to and start with seat time and have fun!

Great video. Some important things to note. The video talks about rally racing in general and includes stage rally and rallyX. The comments about being very low cost of entry and good value for the seat time only really applies to rallyX. I started off in rallyX for the same reason. Once you move to stage rally, which I’ve been doing for the last 5 years, it is definitely not “affordable” or a low cost Motorsport. It’s extremely hard on the vehicle and the safety equipment required is very expensive. They are also in remote areas and most are 2-day rally with you doing your own recce which means you are there for 4-5 days. My channel, bankrupt Motorsports, has a bunch of info about stage rally for those looking to do that or maybe if you currently do rallyX and are thinking of making the switch to stage. Good information here about rallyX and it really is great fun for the money!!

The best thing you could do is do some searching and show up to an event. They are always looking for volunteers and you can talk to drivers, check out the cars and usually hop in the passenger seat for a few ride alongs. Most drivers are happy to take you out if you just ask! You will learn a ton

Do most people trailer their car? Is it realistic to, local, drive-participate-drive again?
@BoostRodeo
@BoostRodeo 5 ай бұрын
We trailer since we don't keep this car registered and isn't pleasant to drive on the freeway. There are definitely people that drive their cars to and from the events. Always good to at least have a plan for a tow vehicle and trailer if you are doing that though. There's always a chance of breaking something or losing a tire in any type of racing and rally/rally-cross is especially tough on things.

Just found your channel. This is a great way to go budget rallying. I did similar racing (sprints/ motorkhanas in Australia) many moons ago with the same car, same colour matt black too lol. 3TC with twin sidedrafts carbs and headers, no interior, welded locked diff. There is a couple vids on my channel. It was a hoot.. send it!👍

@BoostRodeo 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for checking it out. That's an awesome coincidence on the cars! We have had ridiculously disproportionate amount of fun with this thing for the small amount of money put into it. Needs some suspension dialing for a bit more grip but the 3TC has been a champ and is plenty fun. I'll be sure to check yours out on your channel! Cheers!
@jmanbz
@jmanbz 2 жыл бұрын
Definitely agree on the disproportionate amount of fun for the money. I certainly got the most fun out of that car then any others since, even other higher HP cars. I was planning to source secondhand AE86 suspension for it, bolts straight in. But never got around to doing that before the motor let go...after about 4yrs of cheap racing haha. More recently I picked up a KE35 Corolla that is 3SGE BEAMS powered, brings back the same old feels of the old Corolla. Great times!

are there any good rally tires for the peugeot 3008? another question: do you know some kinds of specialized tires which could be used for rallycross racing?
@BoostRodeo
@BoostRodeo Жыл бұрын
What wheel size does the peugeot run? There are dedicated rally/gravel tires. Many start out running the most aggressive snow tires they can find. The surface affects the best tire immensely. On packed and gravel surfaces harder rally tires do very well but in soft dirt and mud a snow tire will usually out perform them. Hope that helps a bit

Any recommendations to start Rally on East ? South NJ or VA?
@BoostRodeo
@BoostRodeo Жыл бұрын
Should be able to find a few Rally Cross groups on the East Coast! Most likely won't have a 2023 events schedule listed yet, unless they hold winter races. Search on Motorsportsreg.com over the next few months and events should start popping up. There is a DC Rallycross SCCA chapter and if you are up for a bit of travel the O'neal Rally School is up in New Hampshire and holds both events and driving classes. It's one of the most renowned places in the country to learn how to drive. Hope that helps!

Get to the top where you are with what you have. Know it’s possible when you know it’s possible. If it’s your dream, spend all your time, thoughts, and money on it. You can only get good sponsors when you are good at networking. Sponsors are there to advertise and make money. Get sponsors by being an investment.

Is there any place to just practice driving techniques on gravel for cheap, instead of actually racing?
@BoostRodeo
@BoostRodeo 5 ай бұрын
Best bet is to find some grassroots rally-cross events. For $50-150 per event it's hard to beat the drive time you will get. If you know anyone with land that will let you cut in a track and do some laps anytime you want that is ideal. I'm still looking for that in the Spokane area so I can get more reps in between races and test changes to the car.

Your car had to be in mod class with no interior and no bumpers right?
@BoostRodeo
@BoostRodeo Жыл бұрын
Currently sitting in Prepared RWD class for a number of things, bumpers being one of them. 1. Interior modifications 2. Driver seat swapped 3. Bumpers removed 4. Exhaust modified from the cylinder head back (header) 5. Intake/Carb have been changed to a Webber 32/36 6. Rear diff welded The car really needs suspension work next, dampers that are not completely shot, front arms lengthened to get rid of the positive camber from weight reduction, better gearing, harnesses/cage The goal is to stay in prepared for now while we get the chassis as dialed in as possible and then move to Modified RWD when we boost the 4cylinder 3TC for a lot more power.

Is automatic better or manual?
@blackoutlol2857
@blackoutlol2857 7 ай бұрын
Good question! simple answer: manual. While automatic is easier and still perfectly valid manual is generally used in rally as there is more control and at least for older cars noticeably faster.

Not gonna pretend to be an expert or anything yet just a fan of rally racing :)
@BoostRodeo
@BoostRodeo 5 ай бұрын
Honestly either can be really competitive. When starting out an automatic will be simpler and easier. It has the advantage of being able to do things without upsetting the car which is what catches a lot of new and even experience drivers. They are also faster to stay in power, it's hard to outshift an automatic. The downside is once you get really experienced you will find there are situations where you want to intentionally upset the car and break traction. A manual makes this a lot easier. I hope that helps
