Royal palace and fortress. Prison was a secondary function. There've been only around 3500 inmates in The Tower so far. They began detaining prisoners there mainly when the Royal Family moved out after a mere 500 years of residence.

Intetesting. One of the ravens was missing a couple weeks ago and they wondered if maybe it had died. Read that in a Google article. There's a video on i think Britain 's Bloody Crown about the ravens of the tower. Very interesting info.......

Of course not; they're plastic. The real Crown Jewels are kept in the sock drawer of Her Majesty's favourite bedchamber at Windsor Castle. The drawer has both a key and a combination lock. The former is kept by the Lord High Almoner, and the latter's code is known only to the Keeper of the Privy Purse. They both have to answer a riddle given by the First Lady of the Bedchamber to get access to the drawer.

Real or not, whenever The Queen needs them, the State Imperial Crown in particular, they are removed and brought over to Buckingham Palace. You unfortunate lot find a small note in their place reading "In Use".

@@tonywilkinson6895 Nope no one is sorry about that because it was never stolen from India. INDIA didn't exist at the time and it wasn't stolen but it was given to the British as part of the Treaty of Lahore.
