I like how everytime she goes to make a big realisation, she brushes it off with a joke or a snide comment. "I never found out, what it was I- tastes like vegetables I don't like!" She can't acknowledge what's causing her so much suffering because if she even takes it seriously, everything breaks. But vegetables are good for you, they give you nutrients. Alarm Clocks wake you up to face the day! She has the gift, but can't open the box. She wants what's inside but it takes so much strength to open it up. Only with the support of people who tell her that she'll be alright can she do it.

I've been thinking about the structure of the song and honestly it kind of matches the ending progression in her arcade route. In the normal ending (throw the first round and you're on it) she is very uncertain and worried and hesitant. This really is a great reflection of the first part of the song. Then we get into the hard ending where she actually has the moment of awareness and confident proclamation that she is a girl. Then as it moves through the remix of her original theme, this reflects the extreme ending as she learns from KY how to let her family know and to reassure them it wasn't anything they did. Which bookends her early lore of having to present and her parents worrying about her suffering as a child as a result of it. The song ends triumphant and the extreme ending ends on an extremely optimistic note of her being ready to face what comes next. I think in a way, the song is a spoiler and guide for the routes themselves.

But the route where she openly expresses her ears and says "I have some thinking to do" You get this route if you lose a round in your first match. The hard end is when she comes out and it's because she has the confidence to. And the extreme route is her trying to figure out how to come out to her family and friends. The normal end is kind of overlooked in all of this but it really does set the tone for what this whole arc is about lol. None are really contradictory. But rather answering different aspects of the same question.

It makes sense when you look at the Japanese XX bio and learn she only wanted to do any of that so her parents could stop feeling guilty. It recontextualizes things a bit compared to the western version of the bio. She was trying to be a boy for the sake of other people, growing doing things just for others to pursuing her own happiness feels like a good way to end it and turns the off screen moment where she did get rid of the superstition into a turning point in the arc rather then the end of it.

So here's the thing: if Bridget was any other character, them being transgender would be more easily acceptable within the G.G. fandom- hell, I think Testament being non-binary was received well enough because it fit into their character arc of self-discovery. Bridget is different, because Bridget being trans is unironically "problematic" when taken within the context of their character arc and story. Bridget was born male in a village that believed that having same-sex twins was a bad omen, so his parents said he was a girl and raised him to be one for his entire life. However, at this time Bridget still considered himself to be male, how he was born, and wanted to be recognized as a man in order to prove the superstitions of his village and family wrong. In so doing, his character arc used this motivation to give him agency and a goal to strive for. Based off of this information, the logical progression for Bridget would be for him to continue down this path of self affirmation, but instead they decided to have Bridget come out as transgender. The reason this is a problem for some is that it can be argued that Bridget was brainwashed or even groomed into becoming a girl. The development contradicts her previous character arc, wanting to dispell her village's superstitions about same sex twins and be recognized for who they really were, and instead she has become the very thing that everyone else wanted her to be. Rather than Bridget being recognized for the man he is, one who did not conform to gender norms thanks to his upbringing, she has instead succumbed to peer pressure and possibly accepted the role that the world wanted her to have. That's my interpretation of the issue, anyway.

This song helped me identify several problems I was having, and gives me a lot of motivation to keep doing what I need to do to be happy. At first Bridget becoming a trans woman was rough for me(wasnt upset at anyone tho, and was glad at how heartfelt and well done her new stuff was) because she was a formative icon for me as a femboy. I thought her new song was very nice but I thought it wasnt something I could relate to. But eventually I started understanding I had unsettled insecurities, and her song unearthed more and helped me a lot. It got me to think a lot about things and it gives me power and a focus on doing what's right for me. I honestly wish I could thank Daisuke in person.

Sorry to be such a downer but they’re not really the best representation for trans ppl.. their wiki says “Bridget first appeared in the 2002 video game Guilty Gear X2. In the series, Bridget was born male with a twin brother in a village where the birth of same-sex twins is considered bad luck; therefore, Bridget's family named and raised Bridget as a girl. In young adulthood, Bridget rejected this upbringing and set out to be a man.” They were forced to cross dress and their female identity was forced on them just over superstition….

@@onelooongboi5838 the rebutal to what you said is in the very game you mentioned and in strive. in GGX2 bridget is constantly saying stuff like "i'm a boy" meaning that at the time, she viewed herself as male. years passed as she lived OUTSIDE her village, and then she came to the conclusion on her own, that she identified as a woman. the point is that religion and superstition did not have an effect in bridget's conclusion about her identity

My comment is hardly even related to your point, and I've been playing GG games since 2009, do you think you're bringing some big news to me or something? Second of all, gender is messy, and having a character who goes through something that isnt clean and simple is something that resonates with people. Bridget had a period where she could openly be a man, whether masculine or feminine. She tried being a femboy and decides that didnt really fully do it for her, so she decided to be a trans woman. Both of those choices would have felt like something pressed up on her- whether being feminine in gender expression or also identifying as a women. But sometimes what's right for you Furthermore, cis people are very very often raised to be cis in identity and gender conforming in expression, but for most of them it is obviously ok to stay that way because that's what is right for them. Bridget is the same way- just because your raising pushed you towards something doesnt mean you have to pick something that is different, it doesnt make your journey invalid and meaningless. What matters is having choice and being able to explore what's right for you. Lastly, and most importantly, the song still carries a lot of resonant meaning even outside of Bridget's story- not being afraid of change, not focusing on being something for other people, letting you listen to yourself, taking action on what's right for you, etc. That's why it resonated with me even though i'm a femboy rather than trans and even though I obviously dont share Bridget's history. Which makes your comment even more pointless.

@@lagc5103 the translation for their origin story get mistranslated but eventually the devs decided to just call them trans. Even some trans ppl are upset about this because they’re a cross dresser and not a trans person. They were changed into being trans to cash in on the western gender hype train. Even one of the old dev of guilty gear just left and basically his origin story of Bridget got changed into something completely different and is now considered trans. But in reality they’re not even trans…
