Something worthy of note, you don't have to take overload's legs all the way off. If you line the thighs up with the arms just right, they slide directly onto them. I haven't seen a figure do that before and it's just so cool to me

The closest thing I've seen to that is the rail system on Siege Ultra Magnus's grill. It's engineered so the grill can slide up onto his back for his unarmored robot mode and still give him full waist articulation. Not only that, it also acts as a sturdy clip-on point for the main torso-piece of his armor.

There's a toy armada episode on a few of the characters and toys from Armada and apparently Overload was created because Takara wanted a big ticket item for a Japanese holiday week (holiweek?). IIRC, Aaron Archer said that it was never intended to be an Ultra Magnus because they had already done a combining Magnus in Car Robots.

To get the base mode to convert to 'pants' mode, you pull apart Prime's legs to create the super mode arms, not push the arms together to form the front of Prime's cab.

You transformed the trailer into base mode incorrectly. The autotransform into base mode worked perfectly. What you're meant to do is flid the side tabs down to act as supports for the legs. Forcing the legs down onto the ground like that not only doesn't line things up properly on that side of the base, but you're putting needless additional wear on the base mode.

@@keybae23 I feel like we're only getting part of the story there. Even if the gears were stripped or misaligned, you'd still be able to hear the motor working on it. Furthermore, even in the interests of conserving the batteries and minising the risk of corrosion, why wasn't the power switch flicked off on the trailer when it was transformed. I always did that on mine when it was transformed and left in a particular mode for storage or display for that very reason. At what point in that situation does operator error cease being completely disregarded because of an accompanying mechanical failure?

I got an Overload at TFNation and it's such a fun thing. My favourite part is how the lower legs slide over onto the arms. I can't think of another figure that does something like that in the same way where you just slide it along the rail from one part to the other.

i got overload in ultra magnus colours and optimus in gold colour, plus jetfire all of it went for less then 100 dollar complete with shipping from USA to Sweden around 10 year ago. my gold optimus is weird for it is made for american market but it has a japanese language chip so he say the stuff in japanese so i suspect some one had fun changing the electronic in it.

For what its worth, they tried hard to make Overloads transformation not be parts former- you can line up the legs/knees and slide them across from one section to the other without ever losing contact.

I think that the fact that the trailer does not autotransform when you go from robot mode to vehicle mode is actually intended. The way the automorph gimmick work is this: there are two hidden buttons inside of prime, that get pressed automatically when you transform the main figure. The first is hidden inside the inner shoulder of the standard robot mode, and gets pushed when you split the front of the truck going from vehicle to robot. The second gets pressed when you split the robot leg apart when you go from robot to super robot. The fact is, that you also need to form the front of the truck if you go from robot to super robot. So it makes sense that the base does not fold up into a trailer when you do that. In other words, the automorph is designed specifically for the sequence vehicle -> robot -> super robot -> vehicle. In fact, if you go from super robot to robotm when you close up the legs, the pants got to trailer mode, not base mode. At least, this is what I figured out as a kid playing with this toy all those years ago.

its a good thing you got the energon version since the armada one has the dreaded GPS for arm joints. which i didnt know as a kid i played with it so much only to learn as an adult about it and am amazed it never broke. but i did one thing i kepted my childhood overload with me that transforming sound is so fun to spam and the lil guy was for the longest time my go to fidget toy. i just wished i kept all of them and wasnt forced to give them up by my mom via the "your too old for them give them to your younger cousin" bit. since i had the complete set of armada jetfire optimus and overload. and yes im soooooo hoping its an armada commander class optimus it will automaticly go right to my preorder must have list.

Overload was my very first Transformers toy. Loved removing and reattaching the head for the sound effect. Kind of a brick, yes, but it fulfilled its role well though even back then I wished he had a big gun of some kind. Ended up giving it away, now I can't find it for a decent price and I still miss it. Hope Transformers Legacy gives us an Armada Overload, perhaps as a weaponizer.

Overload, like the Junkions, is one of those rare cases where partsforming is not only acceptable but encouraged to make a better weapons pack for other figures. Considering Armada Prime’s been leaked for Evolution, perhaps his armor buddy might be coming in part 3 of Legacy.

I know your just trying to be funny with that robosen at home joke and I still remember the summer that original mold came out and told my mom about it and she said so what it, it just another optimus prime. There a Million different versons out there so it will go on clearance and I left it at that even though I knew it was different cause he was the first transformer to have a electronic self transforming gemic threw infrared technology and a few months go by and I was gonna get him for my birthday with my birthday money and I woke up to the armada optimus prime sitting in my bedroom chair. I played with that toy for hours that day,watching that trailer transform with each mode I put optimus prime and it was so cool for the time and so high tech. I still have the toy somewhere in my attic and now I'm thinking about dragging out and playing with again some more Thanks to this review lol

I still have my originals and I love it... The batteries have long died, the sounds are that of a mewling sloth but Optimus tugging both his trailer and Overload with Jetfire ready to jettison to the stars is a beefy and beautiful display (apologies for the run on 😂)

About this version of Optimus in that color, he appears like this in the last two episodes of Armada, except the faceplate which in the animation is white, and an interesting and cool curiosity, these alternative colors are not just any choice, they are nothing less than the colors of Optimus Primal from Beast Wars!😄 Another detail, you forgot to show that in robot mode, behind the chest grid he has the Matrix of Leadership.😮 I hope to see a video with Baltmatrix someday, it would be really cool.🙂 Nice video.👍

Ha no way, I've still got the blue Optiimus and Trailer somewhere. Missing the loose parts and the gold mini-con though. He's also upposed to make the transforming noise when you connect the top half of super Optimus to the trailer (big pants) mode. I think the batteries leaked in mine at some point so probably doesn't auto transform anymore. The clear plastic thing on the base centre also flips up with ports on the blue Optimus' feet to go on the base pegs. Also the little button on the right shoulder of super Optimus also made the sounds work. It was a such a relief when you said only worth $40 haha, your vid title made me think it caught fire as in popularity (and value) lol.

Fun fact: if you take Overloads legs off, there are squeeze slots in the knees that allow him to tab onto the Trailer in Base mode as MOAR WEAPONZ. You can also then transform Overload into his robot mode with his feet guns for hands and the trailer as the Pants... Meaning both of Primes trailers can combine into a Super Trailer mode

I have the original of this Optimus. I remember I bought it right after my (like 12th or 13th) birthday with my birthday money. $40 and maybe one or two other figures. I have the Ultra Magnus redeco of Overload and I was surprised to see how big Knock Out is for a Mini-Con. I had so see exactly how big he was compared to my other small Transformers and he is about the size of a RID Spychanger.

A pretty accurate review/assessment of this guy. Personally couldn't be bothered to mess with the self transformation feature other than a couple of times upon opening. Despite the immobility of the combined mode I always loved how epic this thing looks stood up with Overload's dual canons mounted on the shoulders. A much better accessory than the pants Jetfire combination. As much as I still love that toy I felt he was best suited parked on to of Overload in shuttle mode as that's essentially what he is, a transport trailer which Ironically became a repainted Ultra Magnus at some point or other in blue/white. Other than the durability/fun factor of these toys they gave you electronics, spring loaded weapons, and a little minicon partner which is significantly more value than most releases these days. Hoping the updates for 23 live up to the hype.
