The Toyota Corolla SE is My Favorite Corolla Trim and Here's Why

In this video We'll take a look at the Toyota Corolla SE Nightshade edition and find out why it's my favorite trim in the current generation Toyota Corolla Line up.
The K120 Direct Shift CVT transmission in the corolla is hands down as good as a CVT can get. With the physical first gear and the way it mimics shifts.
This generation Toyota Corolla is truly an improvement over the previous generation which I've owned and compared this generation to the previous generation directly.
No car is perfect of course, the humps on the side of the dash are cosmetic and you can bump your knees on them. The car is loud of course being an entry level sedan and prices has been on the rise.
The Toyota Corolla is a very functional basic car, but in this generation in comes in a package that I truly like. Many standard features and good looks makes it a good overall value if the negatives about it don't bother you.

Thanx for this great video. It helped me decide between 2022 Civic and 2022 Corolla SE. I purchased the Corolla SE. The selling point for me was the engine, M20A-FKS. Can not go wrong with it, good power when needed, no carbon buildup, great on gas. I followed your advise and did my 1st oil change after the 1000 miles break in period. This is a good point A to B vehicle. Drives good, very comfortable, priced right. Maybe if we stop trying to compare it with other, twice the price, performance sport cars we appreciate what Corolla has to offer.

I have the exact same car 2022 Corolla SE Silver 2022. Bought in Sept 2021. The transmission is smooth in heavy traffic; shall I say I55 Chicago traffic jams. No jerking or bucking like other manufacturers. U are not going to accelerate and top out like a Ford Mustang GT Premium. It’s a steady smooth climb to your ideal speed. It’s very reliable so far with 7000miles on the dash. I idle a lot in the winter because of my job, so I change my oil at 3000 to 3500 miles. In the summer I go back to 5000 mile oil changes. I have never regret my purchase especially with these insane gas ⛽️ prices

@natelove187

@@rightlanehog3151 No, I haven’t considered a battery hybrid car yet because I love gas vehicles because they burn heavy. Meaning in cold weather fuel will last longer than batteries 🔋. Heating your car, running accessories, Lights, Radio 📻 and etc, fuel ⛽️ is way better in colder climates. Try charging your cell phone outside in the winter with an external power bank. You will barely charge it half way. I’ll wait until I have no other choice to buy an electric car 🚗

I paid about $25K and added the extended warranty that puts it beyond 100k miles. I think the grand total with the extended warranty was $28K. This comes with oil changes, tire rotations etc. So really getting the extended bumper to bumper is totally worth it even though it's probably never going to need it.

But I want that CVT (least offensive as I really want a geared automatic but not to be had), but it is not in the L model Corolla's. That’s pushing it crazy high. Dealers are having a field day with the markups. I bought my 22 Corolla SE for $28,000. No negotiations, no price drop, no wiggle room, either you take it or the next customer buys it. I bought mine the same day. The sales lady told me it will be gone tomorrow and at the time it was a 3 week wait for a Corolla SE coming from Japan 🇯🇵

It is a rip off. The stealerships are taking advantage of the shortages and the micro chip shortage as well as the trucking problem. Don't play their games and just wait for this whole thing about shortages of micro chips, truck drivers and Covid come to a close. Then buy at MSRP or Invoice.🤑

Fantastic review 👍 My wife bought a 21 hatch in nightshade and I bought the 21 SE sedan with the upgrade package (18's and a bunch of other stuff) Two things that bothered me was the rearview mirror, so I got Toyota to install the autodimming with homelink and compass and the tiny radio knobs. I bought the Rav 4 knobs and they fit perfectly, just got to take out the plastic piece on the back of new knobs and they fit right on. They would even fit your new Camry stereo knobs

I have a Corolla 2019 LE and it has been very good to me. My next car will probably be another Corolla and the current gen look good. I agree that the only downside is the price keep going up and creeping into Camry territory. But this seem to be the trend unfortunately. Inflation also doesn't help. Please Toyota, all I want is a basic reliable small 4-door car!

12:30 I did buy a fully optioned out hybrid Corolla, and yes, I'd say it's a bit Camry-like. The biggest reason I didn't buy a Camry is precisely that it is a bigger car. If I was living in the US, I'd have gotten the Camry. Living in Thailand, the Corolla is more than big enough, especially when driving downtown in whichever Thailand city. 🙂

Perhaps Toyota Corolla engineers can morph a Lexus IS with the next generation Corolla where it combines the quietness of the Lexus IS with the roomier proportions of the Corolla. We keep our cars a long time (in excess of 10 years) and we're on our second Corolla LE, third Toyota vehicle. In the past we've owned BMW, Volvo, Volkswagen, Jaguar and Land Rover, but looking forward, it's only going to be Toyota/Lexus. Once Toyota/Lexus perfects an electric vehicle, it'll be time to give up our current 2012 Corolla! Enjoyed your video review.

I agree, the SE is the best value in the lineup (Nightshade is just aesthetics, I wouldn't get it). The 2.0 gets better mileage than the older 1.8. For the trims, the Hybrid and SE probably get you the most Corolla per $, though the Hybrid would be best for those cross-shopping a base Prius. The XSE is too close to the Camry SE's price range, while the Apex IMO is not worth it if you really want a sportier Corolla as it will be way stiff (Just wait for the GR!). If there is a SE 6 speed in the Toyota press fleet, I would love you to test it as well. There's more dealers marking them up than selling at MSRP. Anyone want one, find a dealer charging MSRP, put in order in and be patient, but you can specify what factory accessories you want.

I decided on the LE over the SE. I preferred the tried and true 1.8 with no direct injection. Also found a 21 made in Japan model. Also rides softer than the SE. All positive things for me. Got it in early 21 for 19,100 and had 1,750 rebate at that time. Still get 36-38 avg in the summer. Only 33 in the brutal cold of winter. My LE is the more upscale one with aluminum wheels and all the safety sense features. And if you accelerate slowly for mpg you have no cvt drone. That happens if you floor it. I never floor it.

I really like the new Corolla, it's come a long way since my 1970 Corolla I drove in high school. I absolutely dislike the CVT (both versions) in these or any car for that matter. I dreaded doing road tests in CVT Corollas. The 6-speed made this car a lot more fun to drive.

I have an 02 Corolla and my neighbor upgraded from the same car to a 2021 Corolla SE which he loves everything about except the road noise, which he says is markedly higher than his old Corolla! I didn't think much of it until I recently got a ride from him and I was surprised to find out that he wasn't kidding and that the road noise was so pronounced at highway speeds; if his car wasn't brand new I would've thought that he needed to replace his wheel bearings! The noise was indeed higher than on my ancient Corolla. If I do get the new Corolla, I'd have to always have music volume on high to drown out that road noise since it would otherwise drive me nuts (or, even worse, put me to sleep)!

Just came back on a trip to Joshua Tree in CA and had a 2022 corola as a rental. I couldn't believe how nice and easy that car was to drive. Super smooth, excellent feel, pretty quick. The only things I didn't like was that the back seat didn't fold flat, just in case someone wants to sleep on the passenger side. Some cars fold out flat, and that is nice. I brought a tent for camping anyway. And, the 2nd thing, the tires are great on the road. But, I went on some gravel roads, and went real slow, because they didn't seem too beefy, and I didn't want a flat. Last, like you said, a little loud compared to a mercedes, etc. But, overall though, I couldn't believe how nice this car drove and how comfortable it was. I could totally drive one anywhere. Great seats!
